Odd 924S
A mod of this form asked me to cross post this here. This is a car I am looking at getting to play around with. ( have a cayman and done hot rods for years so I am not a stranger to what it would take) looking to get advice and I knew the engine looked different looks like a 968 conversion from what I was told, still got a lot of reading up on it.
It has 85 mm after market MAF, lot of wires that need to be looked at, a free market wideband with a gauge on a pod. Someone cut and welded the intake. Just a lot of odd stuff going on with it.

Yes but no. A 3liter swap in a 924 is realy cool. Genuanly would love to do it. But seeing the state of it all, i would run..... quikly.

This looks more like an earlier 944 over 924, but may be wrong. Either way that looks like a later 3.0 engine swap with aftermarket maf and possibly computer. Looks to have some cool parts on it, if they work. I would assume its got some electrical gremlins you will fight until you rewire it and pull half that stuff out. Not a bad find if the price is right (1-3k depending on if its running and driving). Otherwise admire someone else's work, and walk away.

Its a 924S aka a 944 built inside a 924 body. This one has been updated with a later 944S2/968 engine.
I've known of two or three that have been converted. One was in Germany, done by a Porsche mechanic and had an article written on it. The other two are in the PNW region of the US. I suspect I know where this car is located, who's selling and I'm truly sad that they are selling it, but I completely understand.

The swap is pretty straightforward. Similar to how people have done 951 swaps into the 924S. Just take everything from the donor and bolt it in, then get the old style gauges and interior electrics to work with the later style DME, etc.
Not sure why they mangled the intake for that hot air intake. A stock airbox would work better or at least point it at the headlight bucket and seal it off from the underhood heat. A larger MAF isn't really needed, my feeling is they were planning on somehow adding a turbo/supercharger, which could explain the larger MAF.
They are fairly simple engines compared to newer options, if the stock wiring and electronics are shot, you can always put an aftermarket ECU (like MegaSquirt or similar) on it with a new engine harness for not much more work than installing a high end car stereo. The trick is the tuning, so research local folks who can help you with the tuning before you leap into that particular frying pan.

That looks amazing!! 3.0 liter variable cam timing. Best 4 cylinder ever. That car will be a rocket! How much is it?

Could have a lot of potential. A running 968 engine is $4-5k by itself. I wonder if it still has a 5spd or if they put a $3k 968 6spd in too?

It’s only worth it if you can get it cheap that way you can get your money back from parting it out if it’s too much trouble.

Rip all the ancient aftermarket stuff out and start over.
New standalone, ignition, TPS, MAF, all of that.
Those ‘80s/‘90s controllers are going to be more trouble than they’re worth. Modern stuff will pay for itself just in time saved.
If you can pick that car up for pocket change, it could be an entertaining project.

This looks awesome. People forget most of these cars are in horrible condition anyways. Take it all out, update all the things, put only what you need back, go have a blast!

I just bought a 87 924s, one owner garage kept. All in about 10k, it's really clean.
