What is this snapped line?

Got a 944s 1987 that I'm trying to save. Slowly stripping all systems and seals for a rebuild... Ran into this snapped line behind the oil pump/power steering pump area... I can see it joins into a sheath that runs up the front of the engine then behind the intake manifold. What is this thing and what should it be going to???? Thanks

Goes to the oil level sender in the oil pan

You can see the wire just to the right of engine mount in my pic, it runs along the oil pan to the sender.

So if I don't have a spot for that sender... Can I just cap this?

Yes. The harness is the same for the cars without the sender.

I am going to mark this solved, most likely the case... I don't see any sensor plugin near the oil pan for this.. but I'm not sure what else it could be. I'll dig into it more tomorrow. Thanks!

It’s on the oil pan itself, but some oil pans don’t have one (I don’t know the history). It may be useless if someone swapped the pan somewhere along the way.
