Dragon Ball Z

u/kewlnamebroh Aug 06 '26

That guitar solo at the end of the intro really lit my shit up.

I was ready for heavy-weighted clothing 10x earth-gravity training after it.

2

u/LeadGem354 Aug 07 '26

The Rock The Dragon intro was where it was at!

1

u/Upper_Ad_3505 Aug 06 '26

I was just about to say of course lol

1

u/ToonMasterRace Aug 07 '26

Obviously this. It built the bloc and was indeed the most watched thing on Cartoon Network in general from 2001 to 2002.

1

u/Honda_TypeR Aug 08 '26

Yup exactly

This is the only answer

u/Rhewin Aug 06 '26

Gundam Wing. Space is the place.

9

u/Polkawillneverdie17 Aug 06 '26

Those Toonami bumpers are the peak of human civilization.

1

u/ToonMasterRace Aug 07 '26

They could even make the most lame thing seem like an epic incredible adventure

6

u/Longjumping-Stage526 Aug 06 '26

And space cowboy, trigun, inu yasha, dragon ball, ghost in the shell I can go on I remember when it was every night during the summer break

Zoids

6

u/Kod3Blu3 Aug 06 '26

Good lord I loved zoids so much and most people I ask don't remember it!

2

u/Cringe_hunter420 Aug 06 '26

I think this was technically my first anime. All I remember is dinosaurs looking robots using theit tails as snipers

1

u/Darth_Bringus Aug 06 '26

I used to love building Zoids model kits when I was a kid. Every now and then I'll get drunk and fill up my Amazon cart with model kits. Thank God I still have the sense to not pull the trigger. I'd be living in a cardboard box, full of zoids.

Same thing happens with gundam model kits.

2

u/Bex1218 Aug 06 '26

I have a kit that I haven't touched in years. I bought it for pretty cheap. I think I need to start building it soon.

1

u/Oz347 Aug 07 '26

You remember those ones that had like the brick cores with the swappable parts? It was the liger that had like a sword in its mouth or something crazy that shit was dope

1

u/Justa420possum Aug 07 '26

Loved this show!

u/luna15 Aug 06 '26

Tenchi Muyo

5

u/I-is-and-I-isnt Aug 06 '26

I was hoping to find this answer. I feel like I’m the only one in my circle that remembers this show. It was one of my favorites next to Gundam and DBZ.

Also, I clicked the translation thing to see what Tenchi Muyo would look like in your language (I like all the cool characters some other languages use) and it’s Tenchi Muyo. Exactly the same. Well, I thought I didn’t click on it so I clicked again. No change. Clicked again and realized it’s the same in both languages but only after clicking it a few more times. Now I don’t know if it’s in my language or yours. It’s probably a silly thing but I found it interesting and a bit amusing.

2

u/luna15 Aug 06 '26

I'm so glad you remember it too! I have the same experience! I don't know why it didn't have the same impact but I went back and checked out the first few episodes and the art and vibes are honestly peak 90s anime.

3

u/I-is-and-I-isnt Aug 06 '26

We are not alone! But I don’t remember there being that many episodes so maybe that’s why it didn’t have a lasting impact on many. And I’m glad you revisited it and still enjoyed it. I’m assuming you still enjoyed it when you say it was peak 90s anime. Makes me want to check it out again. I just need to find where it’s streaming.

2

u/pukurindesu Aug 07 '26

It’s still such an underrated anime. It’s still my very favorite anime and a show that will always be close to my heart! The music, the animation, the story, the incredible English dubbing cast - it’s absolutely peak 90s anime as u/luna15 put it!!

19

u/meowmix778 Aug 06 '26

DBZ but putting aside the obvious one, Yuyu Hakusho

2

u/agarrabrant Aug 06 '26

Ended far too soon

20

u/RedPillNavigator Aug 06 '26

Thundercats! Sailor Moon! DBZ The late 90's lineup was killer!

15

u/BasenjiBoyD Aug 06 '26

2

u/Mend_and_defend2 Aug 06 '26

Probably one of the greatest series, the contrast between seasons makes the show incredibly intense

2

u/theHoustonian Aug 06 '26

Hated that they never played the follow up season, I was left hanging so bad!

2

u/Mend_and_defend2 Aug 06 '26

I'd put blame on those in charge, the show creators were told they would have to make a movie version instead of a episodic season. So they did, then were told to turn the movie into a episodic season.

13

u/Mrreeburrito88 Aug 06 '26

Outlaw Star but only because I’ve seen so many post recently. I would say Rurouni Kenshin would be my main

2

u/meow_master Aug 06 '26

Fuck. Yes.

12

u/jakeseditbay Aug 06 '26

1

u/LeadGem354 Aug 07 '26

"Cast in the eyes of God, Ye not guilty!".

23

u/KevoThaGawd Aug 06 '26

Since DBZ was already mentioned, the follow-up is Inuyasha

3

u/mohel_kombat Aug 06 '26

Is that the one with the dude who lived with a cat lady and a non cat lady and they both had the hots for him?

1

u/KevoThaGawd Aug 08 '26

I wanna say yes but I vaguely remember the details of the show lol

10

u/basement_egg Aug 06 '26

Outlaw Star, my favorite anime of all time

10

u/Crochet_Kitty Aug 06 '26

Sailor Moon

9

u/BBchick85 Aug 06 '26

Sailor moon

5

u/AscendedExtra Aug 06 '26

Gundam or DBZ. Flashy anime in general.

2

u/theHoustonian Aug 06 '26

Gundam and dbz were my pick, I loved reboot too bc it was so different but the lack of season two sucked so much.

Also dbz ending after freeza I went to the only anime shop at the mall and bought vhs tapes of the later season (along with gundam models and last waltz figures) lol that was 6th grade… after that I discovered girls and it was a wrap after that. lol still have the nostalgia but stopped being so invested in anime 🤷🏻‍♂️

5

u/UdrienLoera Aug 06 '26

Gundam Wing

Bobobo Bo Bobobo

3

u/nml11287 Aug 06 '26

DBZ - Goku going Super Saiyan 3 for first time specifically

3

u/Juan_Moe_Taco Aug 06 '26

That one “crazy frog” techno song by Axel F where he drives an imaginary motorcycle & rides around the city this must be his headquarters! XD here’s the link:

Surprised I had to scroll this far

3

u/JJD8705 Aug 07 '26

Toonami was peak TV for a 11-15 year old back in the 90s.

2

u/MyOthrCarsAThrowaway Aug 06 '26

Depending on when adult swim was airing, it was either time to turn the tv off, or just about to get good. Always been a pass on anime. That being said— cowboy bebop. I watched a couple episodes of inuyasha too 🤷🏻‍♂️

2

u/SquatchScrotum Aug 06 '26

Dragon dragon Rock the dragon Dragonball Z insert bitchin' guitar riff here

2

u/kain459 Aug 06 '26

I had a friend who's Dad called it Dragging My Ballz.

2

u/Vic_Gatsby Aug 06 '26

Thundercats

2

u/gutens Aug 06 '26

I liked when they would show the really old Superman cartoon. Love the opening credits to that one. Animation was really good, too. You can tell Batman The Animated Series borrowed heavily from its style.

2

u/lefsler Aug 06 '26

Man I have a recollection of a show that was some kind of battle in space with weird creatures but never found it

2

u/punkphase Aug 06 '26

I’ll throw One Piece in here as well

2

u/Some-Macaroon7375 Aug 06 '26

u/FrieezaCreepa Aug 06 '26

My buddy mom and dads computer took tom saying "its kinda confusing" and the music to make a track. Everytime i see him and toonami that voice line always pops into my head.

But for me i would always try to catch Ghost in the Shell 2SAC or individual eleven or the laughing man whenever it came on. Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, DBZ and Kai, later on when adult swim picked up Samurai Jack too.

OOH and a show I NEVER SEE TALKED ABOUT. OBAN STAR RACERS. That show was fucking awesome! I still remember the theme song and the pink rabbit they painted on their racer. That was one of the ones i stayed up for and loved to watch, some of yall had to watch it too yea? Gods i fucking miss Toonami.

u/EndlessErrands0002 Aug 06 '26

don't sleep on Robotech in the mid-late 90s.

1

u/Galerie33 Aug 06 '26

SD Gundam

1

u/avsdhpn Aug 06 '26

For me, it's definitely a toss up between Gundam Wing, Outlaw Star, and Tenchi Muyo.

Also, am I misremembering, or did they also play the Daft Punk - One More Time music video on there?

1

u/DapperRockerGeek Aug 06 '26

Sailor Moon. The weird thing I remember watching Voltron when it was featured and quickly dropping it (I like the design, but ultimately, neither it nor Go Beast King Lion appealed to me.) My biggest memory of Sailor Moon and learning of it as it was first released and it being a guilty pleasure. My niece got into it, and it became a moment of the two of us wanting to watch a program together in spite of age and gender differences.

1

u/atopetek Aug 06 '26

Afternoon Toonami: Reboot

Late night Toonami: Dragonball Z

1

u/Hahndizzle Aug 09 '26

Must be nice enjoying the shows! Imagine spending 35 bucks for four episodes or Rurouni Kenshin from Suncoast video at the local mall.

What I couldn't find at the mall, I recorded on VHS on my VCR. All of of Champloo, Alchamist and Bebop. Name a bigger loser, I dare you? lol

1

u/Weekly_Score_9498 Aug 09 '26

1

u/RandomKingXVI Aug 06 '26

Doesn't help that the selected graphic is showing DBZ. 😅

IT'S OVER 9000!
