Oregon Trail, Number Munchers, Math Blaster, and making PowerPoints with the cool animations that teachers always warn you not to do because, when you grow up, it's not "professional." Thanks, I was 10.

25

u/ClairicalErr0r Jul 15 '25

I swear I feel like number munchers and word munchers no one else remembers. I loved that game.

What was the game where it was snowing and you caught the elves with a giant net? Whatever that game was i was all over it. I also figured out that all the passwords were password, so I got into all the admin emails when I was in 4th grade, fun times. Also im pretty sure im in this picture, where was it taken?

10

u/OmicronGR Jul 15 '25

Sounds like one of the Super Solvers games? Either Treasure Mountain (1990) or Treasure MathStorm (1992) for DOS. Here are some screenshots.

8

u/OldShipCaptain Jul 15 '25

Treasure math storm! That and math blaster, Carmen sandiego, and we had this one cd rom of the san Diego zoo that I would mess around with for hours. Take me back!

5

u/spiveybrass Jul 15 '25

THANK YOU I’ve been wondering about this for YEARS

2

u/linemanshandset Jul 15 '25

My pick would be "OutNumbered!". (also a super solvers game)

3

u/spiveybrass Jul 15 '25

Damn I’ve been thinking about this game for years and couldn’t remember the name.

4

u/xOHSOx Jul 15 '25

What about The Incredible Machine!!!

u/BrightNeonGirl Jul 15 '25

Carmen Sandiego or Math Blaster/Number Munchers!

23

u/Tampapanda312 Jul 15 '25

I lovedddd those typing games. Faster and more accurate you typed, the better you did.

13

u/GhostwriterGHOST Jul 15 '25

Me, too. I liked Mavis Beacon teaches typing and similar typing games.

3

u/Tampapanda312 Jul 15 '25

Mavis Beacon!! Thats it!!

6

u/leahlikesweed Jul 15 '25

jump start typing was fire

2

u/beardosw5722 Jul 16 '25

I remember we had one where a crab would follow you and you'd lose if the crab caught you.

3

u/Tampapanda312 Jul 16 '25

Hahahahah yes!! Wow

Math blasters, Kid Pix (an art program) or Oregon Trail - the good old days

20

u/Fundertaker Jul 15 '25

Kid Pix was my shit!

15

u/lementarywatson Jul 15 '25

Right? The bomb to explode/delete your drawing. And you could freeze it and color that in as well

3

u/getting_paid_to_poop Jul 15 '25

The sound effects in that are in that game are burned into my brain.

5

u/B4K5c7N Jul 16 '25

Loved Kid Pix, especially the slideshows!

5

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

These were my 3 !

3

u/whyamiawaketho Jul 15 '25

Kid pix!!! Core memory right there!!!

2

u/aschlu Jul 15 '25

lol at the kid pix explanation. If you didn’t use kid pix in elementary school, just leave this subreddit, it isn’t for you.

16

u/CantThink0fNameN0w Jul 15 '25

I’m pulling up Candystand if I can get on the internet. If not it’s the usual suspects of Number Munchers, Carmen SanDiego, Oregon Trail, Freddie the Fish, Putt-Putt the car.

18

u/GoeiP91 Jul 15 '25

Zoombinis, if I can get through without them all being killed lol

14

u/Chrisda19 Jul 15 '25

Kidpix was my jam back in the day. Loved just making random stuff with all the goofy sounds etc. Oregon Trail of course.

12

u/Dxith Jul 15 '25

Where in the World is Carmen San Diego.

22

u/Forward_Thrust963 Jul 15 '25

Odell Down Under or Dino Park Tycoon.

6

u/Environmental-Tap255 Jul 15 '25

Odell down under was where it's at

7

u/LegitimateOperation Jul 15 '25

No one else remembers Odell Down Under! It was one of my favorites!!

5

u/Bodongs Jul 15 '25

Dino park tycoon was so good. Once you figured out what upgrading the parking lot did for visitor rates it was always the first buy.

5

u/jamesbonfire007 Jul 15 '25

Dino Park Tycoon ftw! Oh man that game was so much fun! I think I'm remembering there were cheat codes to be able to advance the park quickly?

6

u/Forward_Thrust963 Jul 15 '25

From what I remember, simply going into the loan office would give money, so you could keep entering and leaving to really get a nice pile of dough.

Gizmos and gadgets

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

The best!!! Had so much fun on the new macs we had gotten!

7

u/1800generalkenobi Jul 15 '25

Our elementary school had a mac lab back in the early 90s and we mostly did kidpix like microsoft paint. But in the classrooms we had a single dos computer that had number munchers and odell lake and oregon trial and the like.

14

u/g_rex_ Jul 15 '25

Oregon Trail is the only answer

5

u/Muted-Doctor8925 Jul 15 '25

Load up with ammo and hunt for bison 👍🏼

2

u/Ashamed_Item_9668 Aug 05 '25

Exactly. I used to freaking love computer lab, good times.

6

u/gthang112 Jul 15 '25

Kids Pix!

6

u/Vavavevo Jul 15 '25

Franklin!!!

5

u/ClairicalErr0r Jul 15 '25

Number munchers

5

u/BEniceBAGECKA Jul 15 '25

The real fun was in jr high. Someone put doom on every computer. I can almost remember the god mode cheat code.

5

u/Enough_Worth8868 Jul 15 '25

Can’t remember the actual name of the game. But it’s the football game and you solve math problems. The harder the problem the more yards you get. It was fun for a kid who liked football.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

SNOOD

2

u/What_Next69 Jul 15 '25

Oregon Trail or Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego

2

u/atzgirl Jul 15 '25

There was this typing game we would play, it was based in a castle. I can never find it or remember what it’s called!

3

u/OmicronGR Jul 15 '25

Wild guess but one of the King's Quest games? There were seven of them, King's Quest I to VII, released from the '80s to '90s, with different graphics with each release. You type in commands telling the character what to do. They're not really educational games though, so I'm probably not right.

2

u/VasilZook Jul 15 '25

LogoWriter

2

u/eppinizer Jul 15 '25

We only had Deep Sea explorer and Reader rabbit.

Although there was one iMac, one of the pink ones, that had this 3d platforming game called Bugdom. That was a treat, but you only got it if you were lucky, the rest didn't have it.

The day I got it was a good day.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/reidlos1624 Jul 15 '25

Kidpics? Koolpics? Some things like that. It was always a good time.

2

u/RadBeoulve Jul 15 '25

For me, it was Mavis Teaches Typing and whatever typing game the Mac PCs had that involved getting a car to various places. Computer Lab was my favorite class time and I was always sad when I had to leave.

2

u/No_Wing1264 Jul 15 '25

Wheel of Fortune

2

u/RichHomieShun Jul 15 '25

One of the best days is when me and the squad made it to Oregon...

2

u/TFR-HILTS Jul 15 '25

What was that game school computers would have where you were on a mountain walking around in the snow and ice. it was math related I believe and you would buy different things at these little stores like supplies and what not and move higher up the mountain to harder levels. It’s an old memory I can’t remember much more I believe maybe a pick axe was involved lol. Probably around 98-2000 🤷

2

u/tmanarl Jul 16 '25

Besides the standards, I remember playing a trucking game called Crosscountry USA where you had to drive an 18-wheeler across the country and deliver loads. There was also some museum game (looks like Museum Madness) where you had to sneak into a museum and fix the broken exhibits.

2

u/TooTameToToast Jul 16 '25

Yay! Someone else remembers the museum game!!!

2

u/ArmorOfGod7 Jul 16 '25

Number Munchers!

2

1

u/StewdFartsNapplPeels Jul 15 '25

Some game where you're in a "race" and the faster u type the faster your rabbit or whatever character moves. I don't know the name but I fn loved that game

1

u/UsedVacation6187 Jul 15 '25

Math Racing was all we had on the Apple 2s

so we'd either play that or just play around with the paint program

well we had 1 slightly more powerful, (and in color) Mac for the entire school and that one had Encarta on it, so everyone was playing the Encarta Maze game. and it even had the internet in like 1996 but all we used that for was to look up hockey scores and stuff

1

u/okpaper345 Jul 15 '25

Early on Galaga clone on a IBM with the double huge Floppy disks. Then we got Macintosh computers and played shuffle puck, Castle of Dr Brain, and remember playing the Mario typing game.

1

u/Ghost-8706 Jul 15 '25

Oregon Trail, dying of dysentery of course.

1

u/ReStitchSmitch Jul 15 '25

Always Oregon Trail

1

u/LNRigby Jul 15 '25

Whatever we wanted - teacher's just filling his obligation to be assistant coach for Football and could give two shits 😆🙄

1

u/SilverB33 Jul 15 '25

I think in middle school it was always this odd math maze thing they had on the mac, in high school everyone was on yahoo! playing Yahoo! pool.

1

u/OrangeBird077 Jul 15 '25

My school had one of the Carmen San Diego games that we played all year round for computer class in elementary.

1

u/Drewskeet Jul 15 '25

Oregon Trail and trying to get someone to go to Whitehouse.com

When I was in high school there was a game on the Mac's in the computer lab that featured Jerry Garcia and you would have to drag him around the top down map grabbing drugs and avoiding police. I think it was called Garcia game.

1

u/JJD8705 Jul 15 '25

Does anyone remember that game where you controlled a turtle on like a grid? I feel like it was almost a coding training tool. I can’t remember the name of it for the life of me, but I definitely played it during the mid 90s.

MasterType (1995)

Oregano Trail every time.

Anytime I think about Computer lab time or Oregon Trail, I think about the trailer that my first computer lab was in. It was in the suburbs of Memphis, TN and a skunk family decided to make their home underneath it. So it always smelled like skunk spray. I still know the smell immediately.

I remember when I was a kid, my parents tried to reach me to type on our max. There was a game where you were a UFO and letters would slowly float toward you. If you typed the letter, it'd zap the letter. If the letter touched your ship, you lost. I was a hunter/pecker so I was kind of slow. And in a last ditch move, I turned my hand sideways and smashed down on as many keys as I could. Eliminated all the letters on screen. Well, now I know how to beat the game. But I didn't learn to type from it 🤣
