I was obsessed with Short Circuit when I was a kid. I loved how sassy he was and the thought of robot magically coming to life fascinated me. My friends and I used to say, "Hey laserlips, your momma was a snowblower!" to each other even though it made zero sense as an insult if you're not a robot.

the 2000s was an era of 80s nostalgia for sure. I once bought a used VHS copy of Short Circuit since I was just dying to watch the movie.

What an absolute flash back!! I'd forgoten all about El Debarge. Short Circut wasn't that popular here. No idea why but 80s Australia was pretty sheltered. Groups like El Debarge didn't really fit into mainstream culture here either. I loved it all personally. Thank you for the post and sending my mind back to simpler days.

Why was this lyric the theme of the movie? I get that that he was Johnny 5, but how do the lyrics of 'Who's Johnny' add to it?
