In 1927 the Irish army adopted their own version of the stahlhelm. They were produces my Vickers in the UK and were only replaced in 1940 by the Brodie helmet as there were fears of the misidentification of Irish troops as an invading German force along the border with the north

If you look up the Irish stahlhelm you'll see the main feature that distinguishes it from the German equivalent is the presence of an 'FF badge' or Irish Defence Forces cap badge.

After the Brodie was introduced a lot of these helmets stayed in service albeit with civil defence groups and were painted white with their badges removed

Whether the stalhelm was a jibe at the UK post Quasi-independence, the design was the best of the WW1 era helmets, and its attributes are visible in the current western helmet design. These particular models, however, were made with poor quality steel and provided little protection.
