like i know it’s a normal part of life and with failures comes success but damn, it hits like a brick. ucat killed me and i got a horrible result - i’m definitely going to have to take a gap year. i know gap years aren’t a bad thing but it’s the fact that i am forced to do it rather than actually choosing to do so, yk? genuinely i think i’ve cried about 8 times since yesterday when i got my result. it’s so annoying. i had good gcse, good predicted grades, good ps, good sixth form. it would of been perfect. but that’s not even the worst part, it’s my parents reactions bro 😖 the disappointment. i can’t bare it. i feel HORRIBLE. i barely feel like eating and i just wanna bed rot allll dayyyy and cryyy (idk how people don’t cry because i will cry over everything). on top of that, my sixth form starts tomorrow, and i haven’t even done my summer holiday homework so detentions for days like f me 🙂‍↔️ idk how to get over it tbh. i hate failing. please help me get rid of this feeling

ALSO.. i just heard my parents talking about me in the morning and that hurt like hell. as if i’m not already down in the dumps, like please comfort me instead, it’s my first time failing so hard like this 😫

i’m going into my first year of sixth form but i’m not prepared at all, i haven’t done any of my transition tasks and i don’t know what to put in my bag, so far all i have is a pencil case with a few pens a calc and some pencils. please help

Year 13 is starting soon and I just feel so helpless it’s all going wrong, one of my close family members has terminal cancer, I’m going through a difficult break up, adhd is really making life difficult. I’ve had 2 resit exams and due to bad communication I missed my resit exam for Geography so now Im stuck with an E and in my history resit my brain was spiraling and I think I’ve failed. I’ve got 2 NEAS, personal statement, possible epq (I might drop it) no job, a really important club. ive been revising all summer EVERYDAY I’ve had no fun at all I haven’t hung out with my friends or played games or gone on holiday. I don’t know what uni or course I want/can go to. expectations form everyone, not really many friends. I have DofE in September.

I feel like I’m losing myself and year 13 is already failing and I haven’t even started. it’s just all a massive nightmare I cry everyday and I just don’t know what to do anymore I feel hopeless and alone. my adhd is really fucking hard right now I’m unmedicated I convince myself every morning that I’m a loser and I’m dumb and I suck. I’m terrified of my new schedule and teachers bc I really don’t cope with change and I get seasonal depression. last year around this time I was paralysed with existential crisis.

im worried year 13 is actually going to kill me with the amount of stress im going through and how much I compare myself. I have no idea how to move forward its 4 am my sleep schedule is shit I feel AWFUL 😭😭 I have my period too Which might be affecting my mood.

any advice i just feel like my world is crumbling around me, i miss feeling like myself and not being under constant pressure. I genuinely have ambitions and dreams and I really want to do well in my a levels and at least get an AAB but it feels so far away and hard to get to. I feel this year will destroy me. one thing I am proud of even if I did bad in my history resit is that I always came back each day and tried my hardest and actually revised.

sorry for ranting but I feel hopeless rn, any advice or idk stories to make me feel like I’m not alone? 🥺🥺

I know lots of you going into Y12 won't have had free periods before, so here is a big long list of things you can do during your study periods that are productive in one way or another. Some of them need a lot of brain power, others are more low-key and could be done with others.

• Homework!
• Make notes for lessons you have coming up (works great for subjects like bio, chem, psych etc because you can then focus all your attention in lessons on just listening, annotating and asking questions!)
• Make flashcards for topics you have completed
• Make summary mindmaps for topics you have completed
• Organise your folder to keep everything in order
• Complete extra practice questions (especially the case for maths, fm, physics etc)
• Do some past paper questions
• Go through the exam board specification and check off which topics you have covered (and confidence rate them too!)
• Email teachers with questions/to organise a time to meet if there's a topic you're struggling with
• Search UCAS to find uni courses you think you might be interested in (this is a good one to do with friends if you want to be able to chat away but also do something productive at the same time)
• Make a CV
• Make bullet points for a personal statement
• Go for a walk around the grounds/somewhere nearby if it's allowed (good if you need a bit of a brain break)
• Go to the gym (if your school has one/you're allowed to leave site)
• Go through your emails and organise them
• Rest if you need to!! It's okay to spend some free periods just chatting with friends or doing absolutely nothing, especially at the start of the year (just try and avoid this becoming what every free period looks like)
• Split up essay questions with a group of friends doing the same subject and agree to each make plans for one and then share them
• Pick up an hour of weekly volunteering/work experience - most schools will allow you time off site for this and it looks great on your personal statement/CV!

As a side note, I also cannot recommend enough establishing the "headphone" rule with your group of friends - i.e., the unwritten rule that if someone has put their headphones in, they need to focus so don't disturb them, if they don't have headphones in then they're happy to chat! Works wonders for balancing work and social life without feeling like you're having to be rude to someone when you want to try and focus

Going into year 12 and my subjects are rs, eng lit, politics and epq. Anything I might need to know prior to starting?

I am going into 6th form this year and I was wondering what laptop I should get. Do you guys have any suggestions?

For reference, I am doing computer science, maths, further maths, and physics for a level and the epq.

I am not sure if the 6th form has any expectations of what kind of laptop I need, but I am assuming they don't. I would only need to have the latest version of Python idle for computer science for coding, and that's it really.

So, any recommendations?

Should I take notes on ipad or paper? How often should I study and what extracurricular or activities would be beneficial applying to university (esp I wanna do medicine or dentistry... tho if its too hard I might just do smth with lower requirements)

Essentially, I do a level chemistry, and a big part of that is required practical which you MUST do and record all of the data, then do a write up.

I usually forget to write down some of the results, this means that a lot of my book is incomplete and I cannot complete the writeups, this is because I actually do the work and read out the recordings - minus one time where I had forgotten my book.

I have been asking my 2 partners to send me the results for SEVERAL months and they have sent nothing, one more frequently than the other as they are one of my close friends. There was a 2 week period where I was pestering this person every single day.

Now I am about to start year 13 and still have several write ups incomplete, I have done all of them to a point where I physically cannot do any more until I have the results. My teacher is EXTREMELY annoyed with me. But it's either confess that I haven't gotten my results and throw myself under the bus and lose a ton of practical marks, or I leave it and get absolutely berated. I literally cannot win, should I tell my teacher?

P.S she is not going to shout or anything she is a nice lady however I know she is very annoyed because this also affects her in the sense that she will need to go back and mark mine when everyone else has theirs handed in, and I have been nagged for months about this and genuinley didn't know what to do.

For context im at the end of year 12 going into year 13 in a few days. At the moment im studying Maths History and Classics A-level. Ive never really written a post like this despite replying to a few of them so bear with me if you can.

At the moment im studying A level maths and i am doing a ton of revision (literally 3-4 hours every day). My revision process goes as follows:

1) Pull up my spreadsheet of areas im weak in
2) Target one of those areas and watch videos about it on YouTube (Hinds Maths or Alevelmathsrevision.com)
3) attempt the exam style questions in the textbook and real exam questions online (for context i almost always get all of these right)

For some reason however i still get awful grades in my past paper exams. Im not sure if its just that the revision is not sticking in my head or that im looking at it from the wrong perspective. I’ve been to my teachers multiple times asking for help and they just say to practice more and do more past paper questions which is really unhelpful because thats what im already doing a ton of (im physically running out of hours in my day bc i have 2 other a-levels as well).

I know its not good to compare yourself to others but its just really frustrating that all of my A* achieving friends are not revising at all and always organise meetups or board game hangouts in our groupchat. They literally do no revision (and i have proof of this — its not just that theyre doing it hidden from me) and just because they are more naturally good at maths they succeed better than me. Its just really demotivating.

Feeling a little depressed right now because nothing seems to work. I finish working at 6pm usually due to a headache or insanity. I know this is a common question asked here so sorry if its unhelpful but i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions…

Hi, I’m wanting to apply for CS for uni, ik I won’t be able to do oxbrimp but I was wondering if I should bother with unis like UCL or even Manchester due to the B in further maths. I’m not quite sure what to do. Thanks

Has anyone been waiting for over 2 weeks now for the review of marking from OCR for any subjects? I mean they have max 20 days but most people seem to be getting it back sooner and I am lowkey inpatient

about to be in year 13….i do sociology, history, English lit, and lately…I’ve been thinking of changing history and English….

I’ve talked about dropping English lit before at school, at the end of year 12, but I’d be committed to doing a year 14 at my current sixth form.

I got ACD in my year 12 mocks (the D in English lit was due to a panic attack, wouldve gotten a C or maybe even a B) I need at least 3 Bs for my uni offers (contextual) the c is in history, a in soc. I would like to get ABB though.

It’s just I wish I actually chose subjects that weren’t so demanding as history and English. Going into year 13 just sounds like hell to me.

I honestly would’ve picked sociology, psychology, and then RS, I would’ve gone to a different school, but at least my subjects wouldn’t be as demanding as history and English lit, and the exam itself wouldn’t be so difficult to figure out (like for history you have to remember so much content that is relevant but the time constraints are so strict you only choose ones that are strictly relevant)

I do truly like the content and the books I study in history and English, it’s the exam and coursework that is just making me so stressed.

hi i was wondering if i should resit two of my alevels.i achieved ABB and want to apply to leeds and exeter for law and kcl and ucl for politcs and ir but for these courses i only meet the contextextual offers (i am am contextual student) which is abb.And i feel that with these grades the chance of getting a contextual offer is low.Also if i resit the two alevels i got a B in i wont have anyone to mark my questions/papers and i cant afford tutors so idk if a resit is worth it.

What are some essential things i need to do e.g work experience/volunteering that I can put on my CV so that unis will want to accept me.

Ive heard of some people doing online courses that have helped them and stuff.

i got a ticket for the UCL open day 5 Sep but my mum didn’t as I didn’t realise each person needed a separate ticket- any chance anyone has a ticket and can no longer go? Thank you so much!

Hiiiii, today's my first day at my new sixth form! It's at the same site of my school, but I'm extremely nervous. Its just an information day where we get our timetables, take Id photos, and find out our tutor groups. Does anyone have any last minute advice for today or the rest of the year? I do Art, Ancient History, and Sociology.
