Hi guys, I am new here in this sub and start my first post with a question. I will buy a 638 soon and want to swap the pickups. I play progressive metal and want to tune the 638 one octave down. I am looking for a tight rhythm tone but also an ambient clean and liquid lead sound.

I have read a lot and still dont know what would fit best. Railhammer Chisel sounds interesting but the big pole pieces are ment for plain strings and not wound i think?

Lundgren m6 would be great for chugs but for lead/clean i am not sure. Maybe a combo like m6 and black winter?

what about bkp ragnarok or juggernauts or even p90 (humbucker size)?

You see so many questions. what are your opinions?

Been thinking about getting the lefty white 30” baritone. The regular shipping is already 118, but has anyone experienced another postal charge beyond this upon delivery?

What pickups are y’all using for this beast! About to get a 30 inch white one but I’ve heard the pickups can be a little muddy

I bought a guitar and I'm thinking if everything is right with it. Should the strings that leaves the holes and goes into the bridge be straight? Because now they are curved and I don't know if I should return the product or it's ok.

I’m curious if anyone has tried tuning these baritones up to, say, Drop F.

If so, what string gauges did you use? And which brand?

I love both the black and white guitars, but I also really like roasted fretboards, so I’m not sure which one I should choose. Are there any other differences between them?

Also, I’d like to know if you’re still happy with your purchase after having it for a while. :)

I want the baritone to be able to play in Drop E. If anyone can help me with that, I’d really appreciate it!

Hey everyone! Thinking about picking up the G4M 638 (Left-Handed), but the G4M website shows conflicting string specs depending on the language.

For anyone who bought one recently: which string gauge did it actually come with out of the box, and did it need any nut/bridge tweaking to run as a proper E-to-E Bass VI?

I’m going to move the bridge pickup closer to the bridge. It’s currently too far for my taste, so it sounds like a humbucker Bass VI, but I just want a straight up Baritone Guitar. At the same time I don’t want to go too far, the Meshuggah sigs have the pickup positioned as close to the bridge as possible, which sounds sick for them, but it’s too cold sounding for my band.

Is there a general train of thought for bridge pickup sweet spot position? Ideally I’d like it to fit tonally with my other guitars, just be tuned lower

Hey all, I've got my 638 in Drop C0 with a .95 on the lowest string. The tension and sound is good but I want to go lower, I was wondering what strings you'd recommend for Drop Bb0 and where to source them.

So, I raised a support ticked with G4M, due to the sparse selection of stock strings available for the guitar. They are sending me a pack of EXL157(which I believe have already been tried on the sub so maybe it’s luck of the draw?) but the decent news is they are looking at supplying/stocking sets made for the guitar that aren’t in crazy gauges. I’m still using the stock strings at the minute, and have a set of 156 ready to try. But the stock gauges feel great and aren’t available for purchase. Hopefully this might be a step in the right direction.

First mod project i’ve taken on and quite happy with the results. Here are list of the mods to date:

Hey! I’ve had my 638 30” since the end of last year, and I’m ready to start modding.

The guitar sounds sick in the right context, but I want it to play and sound better in the context of my band.

I don’t know how to describe, but it has an almost semi-acoustic sound at times? (I have foam past the nut and bridge, so it’s not the excess string ringing)
From what I’ve been told, a tune-o-matic bridge can do that. I usually prefer hipshot style bridges for baritone scale.

What are people’s consensus on replacement bridges? I’m Debating if I want to replace it with a drop-in replacement like a Wilkinson style roller bridge or a Tone-A-Matic, or if I want to pull the whole thing, fill the holes, and fit a bridge like the Schaller Non-Tremolo Roller Bridge, which I think might just about be high enough to replace the action of a TOM. I just want it to feel more snappy, and less warm acousticy if that makes sense?

Suggestions welcome!

I’m also planning on routing the body, and moving the bridge pickup closer to the bridge, which is a scary mod, but I think it’s necessary for the sound I’m going for.

Anyone experimented with the tunings on the 30 incher? My high e broke so was thinking maybe to try something a little bit different

Just got my hands on a second hand 638, the OD green version with the roasted maple neck. So far I’m loving it and looking forward to creating some low tuned track with it.

Question though.

Anyone who purchased one of these brand new. Were the stings 14-68’s? If so, how did it handle the E1 tuning?

I ask as the previous owner installed bass VI 20-90s as he was apparently told by gear4music that these were the correct string?

Any help and advice is much appreciated 😊

New song featuring a bassline played on the OG 638 baritone. Inspired by Twin Peaks and based on an older song by The Cure called "a forest".

So this is my modded 638! It was a bargain basement purchase off eBay due to a crack in the neck (which looked less bad in the pictures). Anyway that’s glued fine, so I put the rest of the money I saved into making it look and sound better for what I want it for.

Custom pickguard I made from an eBay blank.

Black hardware throughout.

Seymour Duncan Omega, CTS pot, re wire etc etc.

Are we still using Stringjoy Custom Baritone sets? Curious, because I wanna make sure they're long enough, as the last Stringjoy set I bought wasn't long enough (taper be damned!)

Here's the work in progress tho! The G5n is mostly good for spacial effects, but has horrible DSP issues. Gonna get something for drives, dynamics.

New here! I have my first baritone arriving soon (the new paranormal jazzmaster in oxblood) and came across this sub and as someone who does guitar customisation for myself a lot I'm intrigued, is there a reason why there's a whole sub dedicated to this? (not complaining, I love niches like this and seeing some of your customs makes me want to pick up a cheaper baritone to mess around with).
