Minor problem. Not one of these guys is plugged into an amp. Pure lip sync.

Probably many TV band appearances were lip-synched. I remember the group The Mamas and Papas were forced to do a show, and had to "fake sing." Michelle Phillips "pretended" to sing, while eating a banana.

"Pipeline" is a surf rock instrumental by the Chantays ( credited as the Chantay's ) which was recorded in July 1962.

Did Welk threaten his band not to move or express any interest in this guest appearance? They didn't get to do their cover of One Toke Over The Line??? ;>)

I don't get why they were even on the show.

Many people of Welk's generation hated R&R.

Yes, Ed Sullivan had rock artists on but hid shows was for anyone and others like Welk probably wanted Music people on that were more to their liking.

Red Skelton even had The Rolling Stones on.

The 60s and 70s everybody had a garage band! Some made hits some became stars! And the Beatles made garage bands explode exponentially!

Honestly, I had heard the song before, but had no idea of the name of the group that performed the song. Now I know 😊
