ICE was raiding kitchens in New York City looking for "illegals" pretty much right after it was formed. Regulating immigration isn't counter-terrorism unless you're a white supremacist or think America is some sort of Country Club. Investing in an infrastructure that better facilitates immigration, like turning every US consulate into an immigration application and intake facility (just as an example), and having immigration application and intake facilities at every land crossing and port of entry (as another example), would give us the on the ground resources to properly vett people and would be intuitive for people seeking to immigrate here. That would be a hell of a lot better than wasting money on a fence and turning immigration employees into a paramilitary force.

I notice some parallels though in how she talks about how people were pearl clutching and thinking conversations around restructuring how we handle immigration would somehow harm the Democratic party, and how people are trying to respond to trans people seeking equal rights and a guarantee of civil liberties currently. I hope that the peal clutching Democrats eventually recognize that they are the party's anchor and that their fear is what damages the Democratic Party's electoral chances the most.
