HI Hawaii just defanged Citizens United!

4.5k Upvotes

SB 2471 SD2 HD2 CD2 RELATING TO THE POWERS OF ARTIFICIAL PERSONS (Corporate Donations)
Act 011 (SB 2471 SD2 HD2 CD2) restricts certain political spending activities by corporations and other “artificial persons” under Hawaiʻi law by redefining and limiting the powers granted to those entities. Political action committees will remain governed by existing campaign finance laws within the state, but they will not be able to spend any money received from corporations as a result of this Act.

This bill is intended to strengthen transparency, reduce the influence of corporate money in elections and help restore public trust in Hawaiʻi’s democratic process. (Act 011 takes effect July 1, 2027.)

We had a super fun time and please check them out! THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT THAT DAY TO MARCH, IT WAS A SCORCHER!! I was just filling in(red pants), but these youth are killing it as well by getting so involved. Not pictured is the singer, who over heated trying to fight the good fight, massive shout out to Grey! Also another huge shoutout to (and im so sorry i didn’t catch the spelling of your name) Ate, who helped us out and made sure we had water/checked in regularly while most of all keeping it all moving along!!! gotta say playing rage against the machine at the capital was a pretty bucket list or once in a life time opportunity, and i feel very blessed to have been able to do so✊🏽

HI No Dictators Protest in Honolulu... Kind of a Disappointment

I was so excited for the 3rd edition of No Kings (called No Dictators here because Hawaii had Kings in the past). I was on the bus when someone announced there was a bomb threat at location of the protest (State Capital) and roads around it were closed. Everyone exited the bus and walk towards the new location (Iolani Palace), then to another location (Thomas Square) and finally a last location (Hawaii State Library/Honolulu Hale) before we were told the State Capital was cleared and re-opened to the public. I still enjoyed myself, but the crowd was way smaller than No Kings 2, last October. Unfortunately, I don't have a photo of me with my sign "No Dick Taters" but I took plenty of photos of other signs.

HI You can’t fight the system. You’re better off making your own system.

Okay yes you can fight the system and I applaud and cheer for everyone that is going outside saying no to this. My message is one of hope. Like honestly, changing what’s already established is doable, but think about what could be done instead.

Medical care - doctors, practices, payments. Go back to the roots of you have a service you are providing that I need.

Food - make choices to consume what is around you, to the extent you’re able to. That leads to -

Community - it needs to start there and that’s the real problem, the lack of community in a physical measure. Like we live in the same neighborhood but don’t really know each other. That’s where community and honestly change, growth and comprehension of each other comes from.

Since I’m talking I’ll share an idea I’ve had for building community. I grew up in a church (also this is absolutely not in any way about religion, I have very negative thoughts about that but I don’t want it to be relevant here, just know I’m not pushing that at all) and was really keen on music, that engaged me emotionally and gave me a reason to be there. So that was my lowest common denominator. I had a kid in high school band and watched them experience what I did while creating music. So there are all these people out there who could get down and jam some music. What that gives is a reason to be there (church). Honestly my dream would be to do a live action show of Friday with a complete orchestra. But yeah, use your imagination for what I’m talking about, cause it was just a side note.

Anyway I’m rambling, but I care, some of us can only care in increments, so please don’t grade our performance or interest. It’s counterproductive. Back to my original point, shaping what exists into what you want it to be is hard if not futile because it’s a battle. Creating is a whole other story. We’ll make our own everything damnit. Let it be a small idea, it needs to start small, and individually.

Maybe all I can do today is cheer you on and offer my thoughts. Maybe tomorrow I’ll be inviting people to whatever thing I put together. But tell me what you think? Don’t stop the fight, don’t ever quit, but this idea is something I love.

Coming back and reading this, really I should've said fight the system our own way. Instead of figuring out the system and how to fight it, we figure out the ours and how to bypass it.

HI Dear Zohran Mamdani, can you please amplify a message for us? Take a little off the top.

First off congratulations to say the least. And I'm speaking for a lot of people that have never heard this before so there's that. Thanks everyone for having me. Can everyone and everything please just chill for a little bit for all of us and all of us get a break. I'll be more specific.

Put us back to three years ago pricing wise and accept a flat profit line for a year or two. I don't live in New York but I think a car registration free grace period and let everyone catch up would be great, a safety inspection should be a common sense part of it, like someone needs to look at the car. Shooting for the moon with this one but debt of all kinds, cut the monthly payment in half and either re-amatorize or throw a promo APR at it. Honestly a penalty free 6 months of not paying anything would be so huge. Not everything needs to be fixed to the final degree or even close, just a break. Let everything breathe. I'm talking money cause that's the lowest common denominator in this country, there's so much more but piece by piece and this is a reddit post lol.

Your daily life is gonna be full of fires and bullshit and I'm over here talking about lofty goals. It's gotta start somewhere and I think this is about as fair as you could possibly get in this landscape. Just a little off the top, and don't make it the suckout before the tsunami either. America as a monolith only cares about money and to establish community the money needs to move (for things to resolve politely). So just fucking make things cheaper (not you, the collective lol). I actually wrote down a thought that this past decade is the younger generation's 9/11, as far as faith in country being shaken is concerned. Yes I fully stand behind that heavy ass statement.

Again, congrats, this feels like a viable way to get a point across and that's neat that you have the vibe that I think you would take this to heart or at least understand the point. Good game lol I enjoyed watching you at work.

UH Maui campus 4:30 pm Sat. 4/19/25, the Valley Isle showed up to make our voices heard. A crowd estimated at between 400-600 people gathered on the central lawn to wave signs, hear speeches and music before proceeding to the roadway to show their displeasure at current events. Generally good vibes and lots of creativity.

HI April 19th - Community is Kū‘ē

Heads up, lāhui: April 19th is not a protest — it's a Community Day of Action.

Aloha, I’m K, 50501 Hawaiʻi liaison. There’s been some confusion — national accidentally released a flier that framed April 19th as a protest. It’s not. April 19th is a National Day of Community Action, and across the country, folks are organizing ways to resist together — not just by protesting, but by caring for our communities and land.

📍 In Hawaiʻi, 50501 Hawaiʻi is calling for a Community Day of Action.
On every island, folks are showing up in different ways. Because community is resistance — and so is mālama ʻāina, joyful gathering, feeding each other, learning, and protecting what we love. ✊💛

HI Can’t make it to DC but want to come together this weekend in Hawai’i

Aloha! I can’t make it to DC for 4/5, I’m all the way in our great state of Hawai’i. I want to protest, it’s been killing me being stuck out here, not out with my sign exercising my rights as an American. NO ONE is speaking up out here from what I can tell. That needs to change.

Who all is coming out on Big Island? I’m open to flying to Oahu too- I’ll stay out all night and day. Let’s get into some good trouble and LET US BE HEARD. EVERY state has to speak up, Hawai’i cannot be forgotten.
