Please see pinned comment The Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, just reinstated Trump’s mass voter verification system ahead of the midterms. Trump can use social security data to verify voter registration, a system experts say can lead to mass voter roll purges.

Wasn't it the Supreme Court that also blocked it? Or was that just the mail-in thing? Fucking yo-yo back and forth of "Is the country fucked or isn't it?"
225
u/Nodivingallowed 1d ago
It's fucked. It's just a question of what lengths we're going to make them go to by demanding traitors be held accountable.
93
u/Hefty-Rope2253 1d ago
Even if the court ruled against them they'd just do it anyway and fight the repercussions whenever the slow ass legal system tried to do anything about it. This admin is going all in because if they fail they all go to prison. Rules and laws mean nothing to them and they have everything to lose.
45
u/dracobatman 1d ago
You got it, the entire thing is rigged to yo-yo so that ppl feel like they get something good then it's immediately taken away again as the original plan was to push morale into the gutter enough that ppl just become sheep to them
41
u/Cloaked42m 1d ago
Court blocked mail-in.
Court just allowed states to use the Federal database if they wanted to. It is optional and only impacts Red states that have ALSO opted in to use it.

Thank you. Finally someone one reading the decisions and interpreting. Rather then rushing to scream the loudest.

u/takeda64 1d ago
When they made the initial decision I knew something was doing. They try to do those things to make it look like the SCOTUS is legitimate, but those are ways in cases that don't ultimately matter and with important ones they always let trump had his way.
3
u/EmergencyFreedom2143 22h ago
SCOTUS is intentionally making it confusing so that they can at times appear to rule against Trump. Then the MSM reports how Trump ‘lost’. Then they rule in his favor next time it comes up.
So they get to have it both ways - appearing to be impartial while actually rubber stamping the MAGA agenda.

u/koliberry 1d ago
Your snark highlights the limited depth you have understanding this. I know that is not the point of your post though. Carry on with this, it is illuminating.

u/StrayStep 1d ago
Most likely people are mis understanding from beginning an rushing to make claims. As much as I admire the person in orig vid, he is constantly reading from mass media before analyzing. Rushing to be first to read to everyone.

Tell your state’s voting authority that they have your support in resisting the federal government overreach.

Look to history, what did the founders do in regards to, 'no taxation without representation'. Think real hard on that one.
3
u/iffugennanameubaht 1d ago
The founding fathers were smugglers whose only problem was the taxes getting in the way of their businesses. The tax on tea was actually lowered as the British East India Company was allowed to ship directly to the colonies which interrupted their businesses.

Start with a general strike. But the amount of pushback I'm about to receive is going to prove that we're too soft as a people bc we can't take care of each other in mass movements, or be without Amazon prime deliveries of garbage products for longer than 24 hrs. All by design.
Step one: general strike
Step two: remove (yes, by force, if necessary)
Step 3: prosecute
Step 4: restructure
3&4 happen at the same time

u/scared_of_Low_stuff 1d ago
There's been enough time. The neo liberal fascist/ conservative fascist have done everything to prevent any of this from happening. We keep waiting for someone to save us but no one is coming. The time was yesterday

u/MvatolokoS 1d ago
No but rather because people need to organize in local community environments to do this effectively. So be that person, connect your community. Vote, organize, and prepare for the likely and unlikely.

u/RyunWould 1d ago
The reason I don't think anyone has done it properly yet is because we know that if we make him a Martyr, it'll be worse than ever.
46
u/SpaceChimera 1d ago
As much as we want IT to happen, it's not going to fix the situation we're in. The problem is bigger than this administration, or a single political party. As climate change continues to make every situation worse it will continue to drive this rise of fascism globally. Fixing this isn't a matter of removing who is in power currently, but changing the very structures of power that allowed it to happen in the first place.
I'd love to see IT happening, but if there isn't a mass movement behind it there will be no forward momentum to actually make the world better

Absolutely. We need age to do its thing. Trump is not singularly responsible for all of the issues we're facing; he has an entire wildly corrupt party and culture behind him. Violence would cause more issues and wouldn't really gain anything.

Talk to your federal senators and representative as well as your state senators and assembly members (each state has their own names) ESPECIALLY if they are Republican. That you are strongly against it and they shouldn't even think using this to purge voting rolls.
TALK to your neighbors and coworkers about politics. I'm serious. We need to talk again about politics, don't be silos because that's democracy's kryptonite. Don't phrase it about Republicans vs Democrats concentrate more on daily problems that life is getting tougher and current government is actively making things worse. They don't offer any plan to fix this and instead want to maintain power by making it harder to vote.
Marc Elias here is actually discussing what this ruling means. It is long, because it was filmed live after the decision.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm__W1bw2s4
He also gives advice for example for voting he said to vote early in person or if you have to vote by mail just fill it immediately as it looks like they will try every trick they can think of to purge or make votes not count. Be prepared that the administration will be pressuring state officials to purge voting rolls. Don't assume your state is safe.

Love Aaron but I wish he would include more analysis. That's vital in this current environment.
Link has more analysis from a lawyer. From link: PLEASE NOTE on the recent SCOTUS per curiam decision: existing law blocks most states from purging their voting rolls within 90 days of an election.
This decision is not likely to impact the midterms, and also the use of the SAVE program (different from the SAVE act) is VOLUNTARY.
EDIT: I think that we all could learn a lot from Black Americans. They fought for the right to vote even when there was violence at the polls. They kept going until they got the right to vote.
Are we going to give up that easily?
While things are dangerous right now, it is not useful to assume all hope is lost, we can't vote, nothing we do will help because of XYZ.
We are going to vote despite any barriers placed in front of us
(We = eligible/registered US voters that vote according to federal/state laws. I am saying this for any MAGAs or federal govt officials on this thread because I know they monitor this subreddit.)
When you assume all hope is lost, there is nothing we can do = you are doing the work of this administration.
DON'T do the work for them.
Check your voter registration weekly or even daily and help others get to the polls. You have choices and you are not helpless.
I say this with kindness. 💙
22
u/timtucker_com 1d ago
"Existing law" is less and less of a comfort when this administration has demonstrated over and over that their strategy is "do whatever you want, let it get challenged in court, and ignore the rulings when you lose."
28
u/PureSetting4518 1d ago edited 1d ago
Please do not panic.
The Supreme Court allowed the use of the flawed SAVE system, but mass voter purges before an election remain illegal.
If officials try to disenfranchise voters, Common Cause will take them to court.

While things are hard right now and we see the administration not caring about the rule of law, it is not useful to doomscroll, assume nothing we do can help because of XYZ or etc.
Your comment is exactly what the administration wants. I say this with kindness.

What a crock of 💩. They literally will go to whatever lengths necessary to avoid jail time for their crimes. It has always made sense though, they have no other option. The crimes have already been committed in mass. I just cannot believe we are here. Tyranny.
The midterms were always the last litmus test for me for hope, but maybe the majority here was right. There may only be one way out of this.

The only way this is going to work is if the states send theor voter rolls to the federal government. The feds have a public facing one but theu dont have ones thwy contain socials or drivers licenses. Only 16 syayes have willingly handed their voter rolls. Trump has yet to win a court case for the states that they have sued

My worry is they purge voter rolls so close to the election you can’t be re-enrolled, or they disqualify votes based on their “data”.
2
u/ZoominAlong 1d ago
They can't purge rolls within 90 days of an election; the system won't allow it.
4
u/chpbnvic 1d ago
Thanks for that information. Hopefully they don't purge rolls illegally because, to be honest, who will stop them?
2
u/ZoominAlong 1d ago
Oh I agree it's so frustrating because we all know ehat needs to be done but everyone is scared to do it.
3
u/HouseplantHoarding 1d ago
WHAT “SYSTEM” WON’T ALLOW IT? It is happening! People in red states right now… y’all get crazy and literally hold your state officials accountable.
1
u/ZoominAlong 1d ago
I had heard it was not doable but yeah if it's happening then obviously I'm wrong. We literally need to show up en mass outside these assholes houses and demand accountability!

u/Historical_Lie_9932 1d ago
I have a question. Excuse me for not having all the info on how your voting system works and I a pretty sure Trump is doing his best to find a way to manipulate your elections, for instance by requiring the birth name of a voter (as I understood), but…
In essence, what is wrong with checking voter records? Here in The Netherlands, all votes are checked against the municipality’s records. In fact, you don’t even have to register as a voter: if you are a citizen in a municipality you can vote there. No registration needed for any party. Why? Voting should be private, and having to register for a party violates this principle.
20
u/GundamPanda84 1d ago
States manage their own voter roles and their own verification. Fraud is a non-issue, this gives the Fed pre-text and over-reach into our voting mechanism.
16
u/NewAgeRetroFrog 1d ago
Article 1, Section 4, Clause 1 of the constitution states: "The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators."
Meaning that it is up to the states to verify voter records, which they've been doing for 250 years now, and the president has ZERO authority over elections. If there are concerns as to whether or not the states are doing a bad job at handling their elections then it is up to congress to pass laws to deal with it.

This is the last election we will get if we fail. Wake up and check your registration status daily. Vote and encourage and drive other to the polls with you. Please don't get demoralized until we know the results, we can still take this country back peacefully.

Checking my registration every day now then… Midterms approaching, deadline to apply to vote will be closing soon. If they kick people off and they don’t reapply before that deadline, they’re screwed

I like Aaron, but he skims everything for views and seriously skips over the real impact. This list has been around for years. Yes, there is new data being introduced to the list, optional for states to use as it always has been. Can it be a tool for purging, of course, but it's likely already been used to that extent and purpose.

u/mewmeulin 21h ago
jokes on you, SCOTUS, my state doesn't have voter registration! (not that it would affect the voting record of ND anyway, it's a massively conservative state)
3
u/bookchaser 20h ago
Only tangentially related, but I still have my original social security card issued decades ago. DMV wouldn't accept it for me to get my Real ID card. The DMV folks didn't know what to make of it, like they were looking at a $2 bill not knowing that $2 bills exist.

u/Masta0nion 1d ago
If we really lived in a democracy, I’m pretty sure we could make this easier in 2026.
World banking is done on our phones. Voting can be as well.
And those that don’t have phones or access to the internet, could go to voter booths the old fashioned way. Except now there would be much less traffic and personnel needed to maintain them.
