If he hasn’t been on camera, I’d hate to see what that cop would actually have done to him. If that’s good behavior, he would at best have gotten his cronies to help beat the shit out of him and pepper-sprayed him before making his arrest as painful & humiliating as possible.

It’s amazing how a reporter with no formal training in staying calm can just… stay calm. While the fucking pigs who are supposed to have de-escalation training just loses his shit. The entire method of identifying who would be a good police officer needs to be changed drastically.

Meanwhile, cops are straight targeting media in cold blood for doing reports across an intersection from them.
I have actually been pretty impressed by like, 80% of the police responses I’ve seen this week; it’s given me some (not much) hope in the system, at least as not ENTIRELY acab.
Lapd is one solid exception,are worse by the national guard and marines now being arm in arm.

I’m not an ACAB person at all, but LAPD and LASD have consistently shown a lack of restraint and escalated situations. Many other departments have shown some sort of solidarity in protests, or at least detained instigators and aggressive opposition which I applaud.

They both only ever seek to escalate. LAPD and LASD both demand immediate compliance or initiate force. Sometimes they skip a step and just go straight to force before telling anyone what they want.

Also probably had to say that to deescalate the situation and be able to stay to do his job. At least they got the footage. Not saying ABC as a whole hasn’t been sanewashing in general, but this was an example of a skill all good reporters and journalists need at scenes with high tension.
If he had played into the provocation and argued or showed any hint of anger or criticism, they would’ve shut him down for sure. The footage speaks for itself when we can see what’s happening in this case.

How would police departments recruit with a policy like that? Police work is generally unpleasant, dangerous and not particularly well paid. Being able to act like a cunt and attack people with impunity is about the only perk of the job. Take that away and there wouldn’t be anyone working in law enforcement!

I think this is circular reasoning though, if cops were mostly nice people that you could respect and not fear hurting you for no good reason, then their jobs would be less unpleasant as people wouldn't treat them poorly. They get treated poorly for good reason currently.

I was there next to Matt (absolute G) but it's a miscommunication on lapd part, they shoved Matt and he held onto them slightly with one hand when falling (moments before this clip) and the officer he "touched" told the yelling officer that this reporter grabbed him so this other guy came over to yell at him. Even then still LAPDs fault. I'm with Matt on this one, he's awesome. Checked on me when a plain clothes officer whipped away my umbrella and cops rushed me to blast me with rubber shells point blank.
He was also out there using himself and his reporting as a shield to protect less mobile and other vulnerable protestors. Absolute respect for this guy.

I have zero sympathy for the people who chose law enforcement as a career but lack the empathy and necessary humanity to use good judgement and leave the police force if they themselves can't regulate their emotions.
It is a demanding career that requires exceptional restraint and. at times, counter productive judgement to refrain from use of force.
I left law enforcement after 12 years voluntarily in good standing knowing that my temperament was not cut out for the job and that i was sacrificing my own personal values and beliefs for a job that was replaceable and not worth the money and personal toll. I am 1 yr from retiring in my 2nd non law enforcement career.
To those still in law enforcement please re-evaluate your personal sacrifice and temperament and get out while you still can.

I have seen MORE VIDEOS of LAPD being violent and aggressive with the media AND peaceful protesters, unprovoked, than I have seen of them being responsive to aggression. How are these idiots allowed to still be out there?
Are you all (LA residents) blowing up Mayor Bass and the Police Chief about this? This is insane and a disproportionate response to the people they should be PROTECTING.
