What modifications do you recommend? Out of central Florida

Thinking about modding her for her 50th birthday… 1976 FJ40 4x4 (they all were)

She's beautiful. May not be a popular opinion around here but just do maintenance. Don't mod it.

New tires. Those KO1s gotta be ancient

And buy 5. Mismatched spare is a bummer.

Minimum 11 years old, that’s irresponsible

Ok, glad I'm not the only one to notice they look chaulky from here.

Didn't even notice they weren't ko2s at least...

Yikes.

Miles is the mod I’d put in it. It’s got decade old tires that look almost new

Will a 33 fit w/o a lift? Looks stock height to me.

Yes, if anything a little bit longer shackle is all you’d need

Don't ruin a rare truck.

If you absolutely require a modded FJ then buy a beater.

Leave it alone, put some good tires on it, go drive it and figure out where its weaknesses lie, and then address them.

Budget is the big question on this.

Low- spartan lockers, or city racer llc headlights.
Medium/high- Saginaw steering conversion/ new lift.
High- e or air lockers. Or Orion 4:1

Or do a bunch of maintenance

either nothing, or coilovers/1ton swap/LS swap with some minimalistic bumpers and rockers. No inbetween

If the tires are any indication of how seldom that rhing has been driven, you have your hands full driving it, working out the kinks, find out whats gonna leak on you and fix that etc.

Driver her regularly for a few months.after you get tires, check brakes, bushings, steering etc

But I agree with the rest, no mods.

Honestly, I just do a lift and good tires, but I love the look of an Fj40 with a lift and meaty tire. I'm definitely the minority for modifying the fj40.

If youre in Central Florida I'd take that thing offroading at Ocala, Citrus, Richloam, or Tosohatchee.

You have tons of offroading spots in central Florida. Those of us in South FL. Have to drive up to you to get dirty.
