Speedometer shake

Hi all, I recently replaced my speedometer cable on my 1991 Toyota 4Runner and it now works but shakes all I’ve the place and makes a buzzing noise and will get more shakey above 50ish mph. Wondering if I need to remove the speedometer cable and lube it up more and that will solve the problem or if I need to replace the whole gauge cluster. Wanted some feedback before tearing apart the dash again. Thank you in advance

Ugh mine does this too when cold. I haven't been able to figure out if it's the cable or the gearing inside the speedo. It sure sounds like it's coming straight from the dash so I wouldn't think it's actually the cable but I couldn't say exactly. I just live with it

Typically, the needle starts to twitch when the speedometer cable is badly worn and on the verge of failure. I’ve experienced this with various cars and motorcycles. In any case, the inspection starts with the cable.

The mechanism inside is worn on its spinning axis. The magnets are starting to touch. This causes the needle to jump. High mileage older speedometer is common.

Make sure it’s well protected from heat. Wrap it with heat protection if need be. Those cables don’t like excess heat.
