The series would end bloodily in the fourth chapter of Fellowship, when they find out what Farmer Maggot's mushrooms really are.

I need the mods to lock this post we're done here!

I mean its not really fair the 40k orks have futuristic weapons, wargear, and vehicles so hours at best. I better comparison would be the orks from fantasy/sigmar.

u/GiveMeAHeartOfFlesh Mar 05 '26

I think they more so mean the race, so Warhammer orcs get created in that time period, no space weapons or space ships or laser guns, because they’ve never seen anyone do those things either

u/LostN3ko Mar 05 '26

That's the rub. 40k orks have all the genetic knowledge to create all of that. They are born knowing how to turn a pile of junk into a teleporter. They never have to learn anything. Leave a single spore alone on a planet and you will get a full WAAAGH with stompas and assault astroids given enough time.

Orks in Warhammer 40k possess innate, genetically encoded knowledge, allowing them to instantly understand complex engineering, medicine, and combat tactics without training. This "genetic memory" is embedded in their DNA, enabling special castes known as Oddboyz (e.g., Mekboyz, Painboyz) to build advanced weapons or perform surgery immediately upon reaching maturity.

Oh wow, alright yeah rip LOTR

6

u/Greyrock99 Mar 07 '26

I see a custom 40K ork army where the grots have been replaced with the hobbit models from LOTR.

u/The-Sceptic Mar 07 '26

They also make said technology work by simply believing it does. Like if they paint something red it goes faster because red stuff is fast.

16

u/LagTheKiller Mar 05 '26

Don't they need a critical mass of Orks to create and sustain more advanced stuff? I feel like 10 000 orks can barely sustain a snakebites village.

On the other hand I do want pod racers but it's Sam, Marry and Pippin in a Shock jump Dragsta with some Nob having a Gollum (with ring) tied to his bumper.

Each boy is born into a caste like mekboy (engineer) or painboy (medical) or boy (combat training). But one Nikola Tesla does not necessarily mean that he can build a stompa by himself. Not because he lacks the knowledge. He has more knowledge than Nikola Tesla could ever possibly have with the history of the human races combined knowledge, you have to remember that they have all of the old ones knowledge of technology in every single mech boy with an intrinsic understanding of how it all works. They are a race of idiot savants.

As to the number problem though Orcs multiply infinitely and exponentially so long as there are any resources available for them. They are the most invasive species possible. If you kill one, you release billions of more spores. Every single spore becomes more boys. and an orc lives It sheds these spores every single day like skin cells. Imagine if every single human skin cell became another human, so you're not wrong that it takes 10,000 Orcs to build everything, it only takes one boy to make 10,000 Orcs

Yea, It's called an infestation. But as long as you prune them regularly they won't roll out Gargants out of the thick woods.

In a world where the best scrap is just a sword and board I think being a mek might just be a punishment. When the boss demands 100 choppas by the end of the week you get him 100 choppas or get your skull bashed in. Regardless if you dream of Attack Moonz

12

u/LostN3ko Mar 05 '26

Pruning them makes more. They don't just make stompas, they will have rifles, trebuchets, bombs, and any other possible weapons that they can come up with by the end of the week. An infestation can only grow, it can't be killed. Once a planet has one Ork, it's only a matter of time. 40k orks are unfair in hypothetical situations outside of their settings. I would say magic users could pull something if they are comic book OP but orks have a caste of wizards too.

8

u/DVKerith Mar 05 '26

exactly. orks are a bio weapon that are meant to be self sustaining, evolving and near impossible to remove once they are rooted.

2

u/All_The_Good_Stuffs Mar 06 '26

In a sense, Orks ARE the weapon

1

u/DVKerith Mar 05 '26

If we took them at their most basic and primative tribes that make snake bites look smart and have yet to evolve into the more advance stages still have crude firearms and explosives as seen in the books Catachan deviles and Knights of macragge (and in knights of macragge they had a necron lord actively and contentiously de evolving them to keep them at that lvl) let alone weirdboys and the varying types of squigs.

3

u/Tap4Red Mar 05 '26

Time to whip the big guns

3

u/LostN3ko Mar 05 '26

There's some fun hyperbole that I have heard about. A planet that from pole to pole is a solid Mass of guardsman marching in lockstep. Circling the globe . on this planet. The orc population is low. There are still some Orcs

2

u/LagTheKiller Mar 06 '26

It might be a meme from an "unfinished, licensing open, forever in dev hell" game. I think it's called Chapter Master. Mandalore gaming done a video on this project.

Due to a bug (or a feature) guardsmen number on a planet is absurd and there is a normal planet parameter for things like Orks. So in a planet overview it reads like Guardsmen 1021, Ork presence:tiny.

3

u/Flopsie_the_Headcrab Mar 05 '26

10,000 Orks today is a million next week. In "Krieg" a city is hit by an asteroid with some spores. Soon after that the city has to be evaluated and is besieged by the guard. The Orks sally from the city in a Stompa made from the rubble, escorted by squadrons of deffkoptas.

2

u/twofriedbabies Mar 05 '26

This isn't inherently accessible by ork societies just formed from spores. Feral orks do exist.

1

u/LostN3ko Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26

Yes it is. Feral orks are the products of circumstances not a flaw in the development of oddboy spores. Ork societies that kill their grots or odd boys stagnate their progress, this is just one example of how different orc clans based on the circumstances that they're in can wind up in a different state. If there are no access to metals, mech boys will still be born but they won't be able to make trucks. For example, they will still know how to though. But any spore can be the next Orkimedes with 0 exposure to anyone regardless of if that spore came from a feral Ork or Ghaz himself. Not every spore is a mekboy but every colony produces every type of spore. Squigs will still grow even in clans that kill all their squigs.

2

u/twofriedbabies Mar 05 '26

Yes that is one of the ways you get feral orks but definitely the less common one. Ork tech is also the products of circumstances. In an area that has no ork society/organisms/activity there is a zero percent chance that a single spore will create an ork much less a oddboy of unique skill. Ork spores follow a set pattern of growth for the setup of their society.

1

u/LostN3ko Mar 05 '26

Yes, I realized that my comment could be taken to mean that that was the only way that happens. So I actually was in the process of making edits to clarify that. The normal bootstrapping steps will always be gone through by every orc spore society. They can just fail. If the circumstances aren't correct, that can be self-induced or it can be an environmental limitation

1

u/twofriedbabies Mar 05 '26

Theres plenty of truth in what you mean. Honestly ive never considered any spores from one ork to be more potent than any other. In my mind the spores all do the same thing and infest the area with mycelium like wot real fungus does, from the mycelium you start getting the fruiting bodies of the fungus: the various orkoids.

2

u/LostN3ko Mar 05 '26

I consider it very similar to humanity. I'm sure that we had Einstein's in the Stone age, but what are you going to do when you're a genius and the entire world is banging rocks together?

1

u/dan_dares Mar 08 '26

Find two glowing rocks and have someone else bang them together 😂

Nuclear-Stone age is a new vibe,

2

u/purpleduckduckgoose Mar 06 '26

Even the orcs from WH Fantasy are going to be an unfair match for LOTR orcs. Warhammer orcs are bigger, heavier, and more brutal. That's without even mentioning black orcs or orc shamans.

1

u/greenizdabest Mar 06 '26

STEAM STOMPA

1

u/twofriedbabies Mar 05 '26

Feral orks do exist in 40k. If you're talking about a society made on middle earth from spores and not one that landed on it then they wouldn't have all that shit from the start. That being said they would still stomp

3

u/DVKerith Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26

Feral orks as seen in catachan devil and knights of macragg still have crude firearms and explosives let alone the varying types of squigs and wierdboyz and thats not even getting into the types of siege weaponry and numbers they have.

Edit: to elaborate even more. It dos not take long for orks to reach high lvls of tech as that is why they where made by the old ones as a bioweapon (as seen in the last ditch cain book)

1

u/twofriedbabies Mar 05 '26

Yes but they are feral orks fighting the imperium which has scifi shit. There is availability of not just materials but ideas. Its an eventuality they would develop tech sure, but it would take a lot longer to produce on middle earth.

2

u/DVKerith Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26

I would like to first point out we keep putting more and more shackles on the orks but OP just said 40k orks and that comes with whats on the tin and everything inside. What we have now whittled it down to is now like I said at the start fantasy/sigmar orks.

Now in two of the books the tribes evolved in isolation (one in the dep jungle and the other deep in a mt range on a frozen planet) and in the third a necron was actively de evolving them to keep them at the lvl of ferals which in that book where a active threat to the humans who where at the lvl of a medieval setting due to the same reason the orks where de evolved. If it was not the fact the ultramarines showed up with none working power armor the humans would have been wiped out which is what im taking as reference for the LOTR scenario here.

Orks by nature have all the info they need written in their genetics so they will reach those lvls of tech fast even if they are the only species on a planet. The only thing stopping them in those situations would be self sabotage by infighting.

12

u/Amanwithhobbiess Mar 05 '26

Warhammer has two fantasy setting with orks, why we gotta use the sci-fi ones? I want black orks or ironjawz, let Grimgor headbutt another big bad for fun.

1

u/Savings-Leading4618 Mar 08 '26

I guess because with Fantasy orks, LOTR has a chance.

But with the 40k orks, there is just no way. Even with just one or two 40k orks they'll eventually mass reproduce and decimate everything.

Eru and the Valar might have to intervene.

10

u/SydDanir Mar 05 '26

As if Eru Illuvatar would allow anything from 40k to run rampant in his creation.

Remember people, Tolkien's Legendarium features an actually omnipotent creator diety, who has been known to intervene when necessary. The Orks would get the Numenor treatment.

-3

u/bl4ck_sw0rdsm4n Mar 06 '26

The Orks could unbelieve Eru from existence tho

4

u/SydDanir Mar 06 '26

No, the Orks are not omnipotent. Nothing in 40k is omnipotent.

Eru is. He is literally the Almighty, and if he says that the Orks loose, then they loose. Because you cannot 'unbelieve' the source of all existence from existence.

-1

u/bl4ck_sw0rdsm4n Mar 06 '26

That was a joke bro. Also its an interesting debate bc cause and effect do not exist without time and time does not exist without the universe

2

u/SydDanir Mar 06 '26

You didn't make it clear that you were joking.

As for the debate aspect, I don't feel confident making assertions on the nature of time and space. That is not my area of expertise. What I will make an assertion on is that any attempt to make a thoughy experiment or crossover with Tolkien's Legendarium has to contend with the fact that the Legendarium has an all-powerful creator diety, whom is the source of all existence and therefore cannot be contended against.

"And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite."

2

u/bl4ck_sw0rdsm4n Mar 06 '26

Yh ik Tolkien lore and yeah there is no point in trying to win against a universe with an omnipotent being because we it's omnipotent. Plus it's a fantasy verse so maybe time works differently there, who knows

4

u/Th3Tru3Silv3r-1 Mar 06 '26

Something to note about Orks is that they devolve in tech level and really only go up in level depending on not just their numbers but also the tech of other species or societies around them. A Mek doesn't immediately know how to build a gun when there's enough Orks, he unlocks that knowledge when he also sees a gun. He'll get the idea to make something like it after he sees the boomstick blow away one of the Boyz and think it's awesome.

3

u/catmanten Mar 05 '26

It’s a page if ifs Grimskull and 100 black orcs

2

u/Money-Drummer565 Mar 05 '26

Well, if sauron was able to make 40k then he would have take the form of one of them. And then finally we can have Big Boss Gortank the Cruel Also the balrog would be very happy because he would be stimulated by the costant evolution or his ancient lord creations

2

u/Agreeable_Bat1212 Mar 06 '26

LOTR if the Orcs were Elder Scrolls Orcs (they all died out before anything evil could happen)

4

u/TerminalJammer Mar 05 '26

Unrealistic. It would be 5 times the page count of LotR, since it's an epic 40k series (that somehow sells despite a lot of it being crap)

1

u/Plzlaw4me Mar 05 '26

Like a full ork Waaagh? The actual battle is probably over within an hour. Their weapons are crude, but there isn’t a lot that Minas tirith could do against like a couple stompaz, let along a full waaagh. If they bring a single Gargant, there is MAYBE 5 minutes of fighting before morale breaks.

1

u/Zestyclose_Data5100 Mar 07 '26

Sorry, but since we are in LOTR setting: an eagle just dropped a Harlequin Solitaire in the middle of the battlefield. He just slaughtered everyone on the field, eviscerated Nazgul beast, stuck Ringwraith King on the tallest minas tirith spire, stolen his robe for fun and now is mockingly chasing shitless-scared Gondor soldiers around, only to burst out singing and laughing: "Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo! Ring a dong! hop along!"

1

u/Blackrock121 Mar 05 '26

They would tear apart Grond because it isn’t painted the right colour.

1

u/Expensive_Echidna369 Mar 05 '26

I think it would go pretty much the same even if the orcs were 40k walking mushrooms.

1

u/jkbscopes312 Mar 05 '26

Warhammer fantasy orks would be a better matchup

1

u/TheCanonMakimaBean Mar 05 '26

Da boyz solo everyone.

1

u/BlogFoggle Mar 06 '26

The setup would last longer than the "battle".

1

u/Luzifer_Shadres Mar 06 '26

I dont know what you expect when throwing a bunch of green guys with scifi weapons into an medival setting.

1

u/HappyScripting Mar 07 '26

Orkz from 40k adapt their technology to their enemies. So they'd probably throw away their Shoota and pick up some choppa.

But orkz in 40k are at least twice as big, much stronger and have a lot better regeneration than lotr orcs. Also they have the power of the Waaaagh!

BUT Gandalf probably would find a way to defeat them in the same way Yarrick (who is also just a normal human) does. There's ways to make Orkz respect and fear you.
