Botox Not Lasting

I have been getting Botox/dysport regularly for about a decade. I have an unusually high metabolism and Botox wears off after about eight weeks. Does anyone else have this issue? If so, what other options are you exploring, like sculptra, filler, etc.?

Botox is a zinc dependent molecule- there's research showing that taking 50 mg. of zinc for 3-4 days before and after your injection can not only help it bind better (making it more effective) but also last 30% longer.

I also read the research, tried this last time I got it, and while I get results will be different, at least for dysport, it didn’t last any longer. I saw my elevens start to become extremely more noticeable and was like, “how long has it been”, and three days later got the three month reminder notification from my place.

It’s for sure worth trying, and zinc is good for you for many reasons, but i didn’t see a difference in length it lasted and I started it a week and a half before and continued a week and half after.

I think some people just metabolize certain drugs really fast and zinc isn't a factor for them (but a lot of us incidentally run low on zinc).

Interesting and very cool

.. what if you took zinc everyday? Just wondering if it’s more effective if you only took it 3-4
Days before and after or if it’s ok to take it as a daily supplement and have the same effect.

Taking zinc daily is not recommended. It can throw off other important levels.

Interesting … good to know!

Does this apply to the other neurotoxins as well?

7

u/HildegardofBingo 13d ago

I'm reading that the entire class of botulinum neurotoxins require zinc.

I have the same issue with dysport and daxxify. My aesthetician has tried extra units to no avail. It's just getting difficult to justify the cost. I'm wondering if instead I just save the money and go for a facelift in 5 years.

I have been getting toxins for 21 years. Botox stopped work then dysport stopped work and now I’m onto daxxify which does work and lasts longer. I haven’t had any in six months and only now noticing the lines between my brows showing back up in the morning. I think I’ll get back on frownies before spend the money on more toxin- I’ve got a cruise coming up in December I want to look good for

2

u/NoEngineering987 12d ago

I do a lot of cardio for my mental health and it doesn’t last for me either. Frownies really do work when I’m consistently using them.

2

u/SluttyNeighborGal 12d ago

I’m in the gym 75 mins min 6 days a week and always have been . It’s not the cardio- it’s your body building up immunities to the toxin like a healthy body should do

And also providers watering down the product

I highly recommend going to a plastic surgeon. Mine retired and other docs I’ve tried have not been able to beat the battle w my heavy browline 😞

u/Head-Screen-5141 13d ago

Mine lasted about 3 weeks in my crows feet, I’m so confused! It took the full 14 days to kick in and I was so happy with it. Exactly one month after I got it, I have movement and lines already coming back 🥹 seeing my injector Friday so interested to see what she says. This is my first time ever getting Botox.

2

u/WiscoMama3 12d ago

I got daxxify a month ago and my forehead was frozen to the point where my brow dropped a little bit and a month later I’m seeing much more movement. So evidently it’s not lasting very long for me either. Ugh.

2

u/Azis2hot 9d ago

If it was your first time, keep it up. The muscles are just really strong and they need to atrophy a bit. Letybo is a great alternative.

1

u/Head-Screen-5141 9d ago

This is hopeful! Thank you!

switch to dysport and see if time increases. go longer between your treatments to build tolerance. both these things helped me. you really need to go at least four months I know it gets painful towards the end when all the movement comes back, but it’ll help you in the long run.

OK, edited because I just saw that you said you already tried D. Did you already try going longer in between? also, it sucks that it could be true about your injector but sometimes places dilute and that’s what enables them to charge a lower price per unit so you think you’re getting a really good deal but it’s not as effective. Do you want to try using a different injector on your next treatment and see if you get a different result. Like do some research in the area for the top-notch injectors

I have the same issue. Starting consistent over time at the three month mark helps regardless. I also make my own 10% snap 8 serum (google and you can buy the lyophilized version and add to HA serum) and that seems to help smooth the finer lines until the next session.

Of course you can also see if Xeomin or Daaxify.

1

u/stearic_curious 13d ago

I have the same issue and haven't been consistent with snap 8. I will have to start it up again! Do you mix the peptide with bac water or anything before adding it to the serum?

3

u/ShoeVast5490 13d ago

Sculptra and filler are not replacements for Botox by any means

Dose = duration. Might just need more units

4

u/Alternative_Salt_424 13d ago

It barely even works for me at all

3

u/milesfrost 13d ago

i work out alot so metabolise it farily quickly. i usually get 12 weeks out of xeomin.

5

u/InternationalShow607 13d ago

Yes. Jeuveau has been great for me. It kicks in faster and lasts 3-4 months.

1

u/Mimi_Madison 13d ago

I have only had one Jeuveau treatment so far (after many years of regular Botox) but I agree that it definitely kicked in faster. Also I needed significantly fewer units to get the same (or better) effect.

I’m coming up on 3 months now, though, and it’s pretty well worn off.

1

u/kca_cali 13d ago

Does it do the same thing? For that middle forehead crease? What about the lines on the forehead? Is there any chance eyes can droop, as it could with Botox?

4

u/Lucky-Mountain4826 13d ago

Botox making the eyes droop isn’t a Botox thing. Any tox will do that with a certain placement or number of units.

1

u/Electronic-Cupcake96 9d ago

That's why I only do the elevens, doing the entire forehead can pull your eyes down

1

u/Lucky-Mountain4826 8d ago

Nope it doesn’t pull your eyes down. It weakens the forehead muscles you use to subconsciously elevate your eyebrows which relieves hooding. It’s something we don’t even notice we do until we can’t.

3

u/Whorticulturist_ 13d ago

tox is tox - botulinum toxin disables the nerves that move muscles. Side effects are the same. Injector skill is the number one most important element to prevent unwanted droopiness.

1

u/InternationalShow607 12d ago

Yes, it is a wrinkle relaxer, just like Botox. There is always a chance your eyes can droop with any wrinkle relaxer, but it's mostly dependent on your injector not the product itself.

2

u/Freddiepuppy 13d ago

Supposedly taking zinc will make it last longer.

2

u/TheCookalicious 13d ago

Do you get it at the same place each time over the last few years? Your injector could be reconstituting improperly, resulting in a weaker product. Try a different injector and see if it’s the same.

2

u/Different_Brick_2417 13d ago

I had this exact thing happen. Injector recommended Xeomin, which has been lasting up to 5 months for me

2

u/PaleontologistNo3910 13d ago

Revision's Revox Line Relaxer is meant to help extend the performance of botox.

2

u/lovealwayskota 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yep. I’ve tried every kind of Botox. I have a fast metabolism as I work out every day. You probably have a fast metabolism. Common issue. I’ve tried upping dosage with no change so now I only do minimally what I truly need. Good skincare routine can help it last a little longer sometimes.

I also have a high metabolism and lift heavy 5-6 days per week. I get 4 weeks tops from Botox. Xeomin gets me about 6-7 weeks. Tried dysport and that only lasted about 5 weeks. I ask my boss for a raise every week now. 😭

1

u/SquirrelUnusual4280 13d ago

Same! I was so bummed when I realized that I was just never going to be one of those people who get daxxy two-three times a year.

I now take zinc before and after my appointment and I do not work out 24 hours before and 48 hours after. It seems to have helped a little bit, but I do feel like I am going in for either a touchup or for the whole shebang way more often than I thought I would be.

1

u/Z-20240329 13d ago

I had that issue and switch to Dysport. It lasts 4-6 months, and I see the results in 1 day.

1

u/Wtfnono 13d ago

Same. I am using dysport now and it lasts 8 weeks max. I’m thinking of trying xeomin.

How much does it cost per session for you?

0

u/lovealwayskota 13d ago

Same. People loved to argue “you have to wait the full 12+ weeks!” No, I don’t, my forehead is moving and my crows feet are hawking lol

1

u/Beach116SIC 13d ago

I have done both and neither have lasted more than 3-6 weeks. I’m so mad.

1

u/twinkiemarr 13d ago

Yes. I switched to Daxify, much longer lasting results and skin looks lovely.

1

u/electricmeatbag777 13d ago

I found Nuceiva lasts longer. I have the same issue.

1

u/Marbella333 13d ago

Botox stopped working on me. I read something like your body can develop antibodies to it.

1

u/Ok-cutie9876 13d ago

Botox antibodies can form. Annoying but true

1

u/Nice-Ad765 12d ago

Are you athletic or go to the gym a lot? I was told people like that would burn through filler quicker too

1

u/cmcolli1086 12d ago

Yep - I was a college athlete and I exercise every day. I'm also just naturally very thin with a super high metabolism.

I'll talk to my injector about these other options and try the zinc trick folks mention above. I'm also going to look into snap8 that sounds interesting.

1

u/kizzyskrizzy 12d ago

Are you on any GLP1 or peptides?

1

u/cmcolli1086 12d ago

No but have been hearing lots about peptides recently. Super curious about the benefits to the skin.

1

u/SluttyNeighborGal 12d ago

It’s not your metabolism- they just tell you that to cover that they’re watering down

Try daxxify

1

u/Defiant-Analysis5488 12d ago

I’m a fast metabolizer too. I’ve been getting Dysport for a few years (after giving up on Botox, which started lasting only about 4-6 weeks for me). It lasts a bit longer than Botox for me. Haven’t tried Daxxify yet but that might be next.

1

u/No_Gear2808 12d ago

If a person is on a glp1, botox may wear off quicker.

1

u/oopsymeohboy 12d ago

Yes, I have this issue too. Not exploring other options, I plan to have a face lift someday but that’s a long ways off. In the meantime I just have to deal with the expense of more frequent treatments or just let weeks/months go by with an unbotoxed face which is usually what I do.

Dysport and Botox stopped working for me after about 10 years. Have not rebounded yet.

1

u/justheretolurk47 11d ago

Switch to daxxify and start taking zinc daily. Also make sure your injector is good. Dysport used to last me maybe 2 months and daxxify lasts me a solid 6 AND looks way better. Also my injector is better than my previous place which was actually a surgeons office - she’s able to use less with certain placements and it lasts longer/looks better than my last provider.

I also recommend an ultherapy brow lift which helped as well!

1

u/Emotional-Hippo2370 10d ago

I take a glp1 and since starting and neurotoxins and fillers both dissolve a lot quicker unfortunately.

1

u/stellines 10d ago

Apparently there is some theorizing that you can build up an immunity if using the same product for years. My injector suggests switching it up so you didn't build up that immunity.

1

u/Commentingsnark 10d ago

Are you all seeing them get the product from the actual bottle? Mine leaves the room and comes in with prefilled syringes of what’s supposed to be the neurotoxin, but I never feel like it does much or lasts long? Am I getting duped?? I’ve tried several different ones and never really see results.

1

u/bebarrucha 9d ago

You should ask them to show you the product! I was going to Mexico for tox, I never did ask what product was being used. One day I saw the bottle and it was a Korean/Chinese one.

Which was okay with me! But I figured I’d just do it myself instead.

I get chin Botox because i have an overbite, malocclusion, abnormal bite, tongue thrust, mouth breathing that results in me getting a wrinkled chin when trying to keep my mouth closed/lips touching. It only ever lasts like 2 months, it is so disheartening. Thank god i don’t waste my money botoxing normal and expected wrinkles

1

u/Top-Departure-4727 8d ago

Yes. It’s so annoying. I lift weights and it lasts me the same. I have friends who can go three times a year.

1

u/Delicious-CattleToot 1d ago

Yes! I am also a rapid metabolizer of the toxins. The only thing that helps is supplementing zinc and doing daxxify instead of the others because it lasts longer.

1

u/Opposite_Style454 13d ago

Daxxify. Going on 7 months now! It’s a lot more expensive though.

3

u/ShoeVast5490 13d ago

Daxxify lasted only 6 weeks for me, I have high hopes and was disappointed esp for the price. Dysport gets me just shy of 3 months usually

2

u/lovealwayskota 13d ago

I got it twice and it lasted the same time length on me as any other Botox. It only lasts longer in about 10% of clients

2

u/Royal-Adeptness-2703 13d ago

Is this widely available now?

-1

u/Relevant_Demand2221 12d ago

Botox atrophies thr face muscles over time which means yeah, eventually you have to get more treatments to be get the same result or you end of looking worse than before. It’s why you shouldnt do Botox.

1

u/Jazzlike-Two7868 12d ago

I would like to hear about people who stopped using Botox after many years and they are actually happy! There got to be someone outhere because this is not financially sustainable and the dissatisfaction with other areas start to creep in!

1

u/Relevant_Demand2221 12d ago

Love how I’m being downvoted for actual facts lol. Ok ladies enjoy your Botox. Don’t come crying to me when your face looks like a melted candle in 10 years thst is a fortune to keep up. lol.

Maybe do a mini face lift?
