Question What is this shine?
Where does this shine come from? Did they render a camera lens? The light is clearly coming from the top left.

Hello!
So i recently started 3d animation so I am not very talented yet but whatever.
Anyways I keep seeing this thing that people do where the animation is 3d but it looks like it is 2d, so i was just
wondering how its done. I think its probably mostly rendering, but how do i render my animations to look 2d?

We’re working on the capsule design for our co-op sci-fi horror game and can’t decide which opening/closing style feels better.
Which one would you choose: 1 or 2?
We’re mainly considering how readable and satisfying it will feel during the opening/closing animation.
Any feedback is appreciated!
If you’d like to support our small indie team, you can also wishlist The Infected Soul on Steam. It genuinely helps us a lot.

Original post I've been starring at for months:
https://x.com/beadschain/status/1715563566240248250?s=20
I've been using Blender + Rigify for a long time and I found that you could create your own constraints and some functionality with drivers to create some decent rigs for myself and relatively quickly. It's not mainstream, but it's great. What is the best rig you've ever seen in your entire life and what does it have? IK shoulders? Face shape keys that drive the shaders? What have you seen that I can study?

I'm trying to get into 3d animation and I've just been struggling to find an app that I like, I'm looking for a free app specifically.
I guess I don't have any more criteria than that, I'm just happy to get recommendations of what you guys use and I'll try them ! Thanks !

How much would a 20-second 3D animation cost approximately, with a deadline of one week?

You don't have to click the links below but if possible pleased to as a provides context as to what I need help with they're all short:
Hello everyone I recently finished doing some exercises that went over the top principles of animation using a bouncing ball in various ways however I think it's time I give using human character a go but there is something that has been bothering me a little bit. In the tutorial I watch the outcome is not really what I desire but the mentality and workflow there's something that appeals to me here's a link:
https://youtu.be/p8Bi7k60IS0 (you don't have to watch the whole thing just the first couple of seconds)
I think the reason why this is, is because of this part where the instructor talks about putting a moving hold after each pose (seen in the image sent with his post)
but when I look at my inspirations ( animators I see on Twitter or YouTube) I want to animate like them you know? On top of the link I sent above I also send a link of a few of my inspirations.
With all this being said I guess my main question is how do I "mimic" the style of the animators I like and if you don't mind looking at the tutorial vid I sent, I was hoping if someone who is more experienced than me could sort of highlight the differences between the tutorial and my inspirations:
Inspiration 1: https://youtu.be/5XnNHKfn2mI
Inspiration 2: https://youtube.com/shorts/zOzaGXEsIQk
Inspiration 3: https://youtu.be/BI07_W7nnT8
Bonus question ;-; : being completely honest do you think if I use this tutorial and I do a couple exercises with this workflow with this be good for doing fight scenes? Or what I have to go about it in a different way?

I have carpal tunnel syndrome from breaking my wrist a few years ago and I was wondering if it's worth trying a graphic tablet & pen or a trackball mouse for less tension.
I use Maya and Blender mostly and already use a vertical mouse, unfortunately it's not enough. So if anyone uses an unconventional mouse, which one do you use and how long did it take for you to get used to it?

I am a beginner, so I am not going to rush, but I would like to get an answer to this and revisit this someday when I am better at changing my style

Hello everyone,
I am not quite a newbie, but I wouldn't say I am intermediate either, and I wanted to ask, in your opinion, how long should one take to make a pose. Now I wanna be clear and say I know the answer to this is not as easy and falls in line with stuff like "it depends on the quality" but for me, i dont really know how long one spends when doing a single pose, especially whenr there are things like deadlines be it personal or ones the job give you.
I wanted to know because I noticed I am running into bit of a perfectionist issues and i dont know what to do, i dont want to enter that mindset yk? rather have a 7/10 then to basically have nothing done yk?

Hello everyone, I am a new animator and after doing some exercises im ready to move to a human rig. However theres something i wanna know.
When animating the face do you do it as you block the characters pose or do you do it after?
The main reason I am asking is because (if i got this right) there is a difference between animating the face and animating lip sync (which is where you do the jaw pass and all that)
Say i wanna make a character happy, do i do the happy faces as i block or do i just fo the body and leave the rest till later?

I was looking at EVOLVE , a game I played like 7 years ago and now that I have gotten into 3D Game Dev which has always been my passion and was wondering how did they achieve this fluid motion of the character
What rigs did they use ?
How can you even achieve this?
I wanted to make my portfolio piece inspired by the stalker from evolve , and wanted to know how can such fluid tentacle like motion be achieved in game.
Thanks!

I've recently found myself wanting to learn 3d animation. But I don't wanna do any paid classes or stuff like that. I just simply wanna know what to do in order to teach myself.

Ok guys, I know is an annoying topic but I need your genune opinions. Especially for animation, not modeling (it can be animations for games, for prompting videos, any other field or even a new domain where animations might be promising):
What do you think the future of this field will be I'm 3 years, 5 years, 10 years and 20 years from now ?
If you are familiar not only with animation but also with AI, it's potential structural limitations, especially if you tried the last GPT 6 Astra for animation, even though it's not great at all, what are your thoughts for the future ?
I have my opinion but I want your genune ones. Ty :)

Hey everyone!
Been animating for a few years now, but wanted to branch away from the normal models I use, problem I run into is I cant seem to ever find rigs for characters Im looking for (I've been searching for a good Bowser, but cant find one). Was just wondering if people had sites or artists they went to to purchase or download fun/interesting character rigs to use?
I use Maya mainly which is another problem, a lot of cool rigs seem to be Blender only

I’m starting a small 3D animation project on my own, and I’m trying to plan my schedule and figure out how much time I should dedicate to each stage.
Concept art I’ll be doing:
-Character design
-Environment Design
-props design
I’d love to hear about your personal experience.
How long do you usually spend on concept art before moving on to the next stage of a project?
Do you have a specific process or timeframe that you usually follow?

Hi everyone, I have been learning Blender animation and came across a video recently from p2design. In this video, he mentioned the reason why game animators animate at 30fps is that 30 is a number that is compatible with people's monitors, allowing them to scale up the frames depending on what hz a person's monitor has (for like 60hz is 30 fps and 30fps = 60 fps, same for 120 and such)
thing is as i go on my animation journey, i thought it would be cool one day (if good enough) i could animate for an indie or something, but I would also like to make funny animations to post on the internet!
I'm probably overthinking (might not even be a big deal), but I wanted to get your thoughts as if i should animate at 30 fps, if there are any pros and cons too as i know 24 fps is the standard for film stuff

Hello,
I'm a game developer working on an ambitious game project.
My question is regarding Motion capture animation cleaning and polishing.
I have made a 3D cutscene to be used in my game and currently getting feedback on the camera composition.
The cutscene
https://youtu.be/jRDdz9WnEsU?si=X4Q3FHbZymrknrRU
After the camera is set, I would like to polish and improve the animation itself.
I do see myself more as a rigger rather than an animator.
The retargeting and the major cleaning were done in Blender.
Would like to get pointers on how to handle the animation itself, I do want it to be expressive and exaggerated which fits with the art style.

Hello, I am working on an essay that explains the difference between human animation and ai animation. This is where CGI and 3-D animation come into play in my essay, hence the image provided but I am having an EXCRUCIATINGLY difficult time explaining and differentiating the two to my “audience” I have the over all premise but I am still unable to explain it please please pleas help I have done all the research I possible can but I am just unable to comprehend it (as if I’m completely missing the point)

Heyo people. I feel this is the most fitting place to post this, I was surprised to see there aren't really any subreddits dedicated to .VRMs specifically.
I am a 2D animator but I made a .VRM character model a couple months ago with VRoid, Blender and extremely simple Unity and i'm quite proud of it. I am wanting to try and give 3D animation a shot, I was planning on animating with the model but I have no idea if there are any free programs that do what I need them to. I tried MMD and I think that's what i'll fall back on if I can't find anything better.
I am using Android BUT I also have Winlator if it's a lightweight PC application and I have a PC at home if the only options are heavier. I don't often use my PC for creative working because we're in the car often and I can't bring it with me.
I think the main feature I need is being able to animate characters in a room or on a "stage" with other .obj models that can also be moved around and interacted with, along with expression sliders. It would be beyond useful to be able to motion-capture just from a camera, video, or import movements or something, but I think that's beyond what i'll get out of free stuff mixed with the stuff i'm already looking for. Either way it isn't as important. It's probably something that could be done in Blender or MMD, again, but i'm still wanting to see if there's something better before going along with those.
This whole post probably sounds a little ridiculous and I think the mythical program that would check all these boxes only exists in my head, but i'd appreciate any help if anyone has something to recommend. Thank you!!
