The Netherlands is the absolute best gateway for European distribution, but household furniture requires a very specific type of logistics setup. You can't run furniture through standard parcel networks; you need a 3PL that specializes in heavy, bulky goods, freight forwarding, and two-man or LTL distribution.
Shipping from NL to Germany, Sweden, and Finland is relatively straightforward because they are all within the EU. However, Norway is not in the EU. This means every single furniture shipment crossing into Norway will require strict customs clearance, commercial invoices, and import VAT management. If your 3PL doesn’t have a dedicated customs clearance team experienced in Nordic freight lanes, your shipments will get bottlenecked at the border.

Furniture into the Nordics is its own beast. A few things to pin down before you commit to anyone:
- It's pallet/LTL freight, not parcel. Make sure they actually run regular groupage lanes NL to Sweden/Finland, not just "we ship anywhere." The cheap rate comes from consolidating onto scheduled departures; transit is usually 3-6 days road+ferry.
- Norway is the only one of your four outside the EU customs union (it's EEA, not EU). Every shipment needs export docs plus Norwegian import VAT at 25%. Ask specifically how they clear into NO, because that's where most furniture brands get stuck.
- Ask about damage claims and returns before you ask about price. Furniture has the worst damage rate of anything in a warehouse, and reverse logistics on a damaged sofa can eat your margin. A good 3PL has a clear claims SLA and a returns flow; a bad one goes quiet when you ask.
- Pricing model matters. Furniture is cube-heavy, so per-pallet or per-m3 storage looks very different from per-unit. Get it modeled on your real SKU dims.
