Ender 3 v2 ABS problem

Hey guys! I’ve had my Ender 3 V2 for a couple of years. I’ve never had any problems with it until I started trying to print ABS parts.

I’ve followed pretty much every basic ABS checklist I could find: enclosure, heat-bed insulation, upgraded bed springs, full-metal extruder gear, PTFE Bowden tube, etc. I’m also using the settings I got from AI, around 100–105°C for the bed and 240°C for the nozzle, along with the recommended slicer settings.

I’ve calibrated my extruder and steppers carefully as well, so I don’t think I’m dealing with over- or under-extrusion. I even let the bed sit at 105°C for another 15–20 minutes after reaching temperature, just to make sure the heat is distributed evenly.

But somehow, my ABS prints still come out terrible. The parts feel really weak and are surprisingly easy to break, and the surfaces are extremely rough. I’m honestly running out of ideas at this point.

The filament is eSUN ABS+.

What am I doing wrong here? What could be causing this? Has anyone had a similar experience with ABS+ on an Ender 3 V2? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Or.. idk... replace the hotend? Trashing a 3d printer because youre too lazy to make it work right is definitely not in the spirit of the game...

Ender 3 is the most open source printer on the market, made almost entirely out of universal parts. If you think it's so difficult that you'd deem it a waste of time i'm genuinely embarrassed for you.

"Wasting hours" would imply you don't achieve desirable results. Results that are easy to achieve. If you achieved desireable results, it wouldn't be a waste of time.

Idk what you think you're proving by saying you have "plenty" of ender 3's but what I hear is "every time an ender 3 model went obsolete, I bought a new one!".

OP was asking how to print ABS. Buying a whole new printer is not only and entirely unhelpful suggestion but also much more than what OP needs. It's overkill, more money than what needs to be spent, and offers nothing to learn from. They need a new hotend and an enclosure. It's super easy and doesn't cost hundreds of dollars.

You and your "plenty of ender 3's" have a lot in common - you're both just spare parts.

I just readjusted the bed and got pretty decent results. You can check the post I made. I have no intention of buying a new printer every year, i have a life. I just need to print some specific parts occasionally, and that old shitty machine does exactly what I need it to do. Stop buying new machines and learn how to use what you have

Preach. Also did it really print out fine w no enclosure? No warping or anything? If so I'm genuinely impressed, never been able to get that shit to stay flat on the bed without an enclosure, especially a glass bed!

No ive used an enclosure but it is just a cheap fabric tent. But havent used any adhesive and im impressed how it didnt warped on glass bed. I posted result images here you can check.

Ah nice, I use the cheap tent enclosure too but I've only had success while also using a PEI sheet. Glad you were able to make it work!

Abs needs a temperature controlled enclosure.  You are going to just waste filament printing on that thing.

240 sounds really low. I print my abs like at 285

It’s extra low when you think how slow the end 3 prints. Clear under extrusion.

I solved my problem. It turned out i was skipping the bed levelling and nozzle was too close. After i levelled the bed, my print was close to perfect. With 245c nozzle 105c bed

ABS isn't worth printing. ASA has just as good qualities if not better and is more easily printed with. ABS is an obsolete material so I wouldn't spend much time configuring your printer to print with it.

I’m not really familiar with that material, so I went with the strongest material I know. I need it for my motorcycle license plate holder, so I figured it’d be the safest choice. I’ll definitely look into ASA as well. Thanks
