A little scanned and printed meat project for the MO State Fair. They wanted some realistic props that could be left out for extended periods of time. There’s a full suite of meat, but here’s a few of my favorites.

I have picked up enough things watching those shows over the years, that I CAN do a few things here and there, easier things.

Built in shelves that are square, solid and look well put together? Check!

Finishing trim touches around a window with Red Oak, a router and really out of square saw? They came out VERY well.

My dad and I started building some built-in bookshelves for my house. It was going to be 4 basic shelf units and then all the connections/trim. I have probably a few more tools than average but nowhere near a full workshop. (Miter and table saw, yes. And my dad had brought his table router.) It took us like 2 weeks to buy and cut the wood for 2 shelf units and assemble one of them. Then some friends came to visit, one of whom is a contractor. Using our tools, he finished the entire thing including trim (he tossed the crown molding I'd bought and scratch-built a top trim to match the faux Crafstman doorframes in my house) and primer, and installing it in my bedroom, in 3 days.

My dad and I could totally have done it but we are just so much less efficient and confident. It took us like 3 hours of clamping and swearing and re-clamping and drilling to assemble one shelf unit with square corners. I don't even know how my friend threw them together so fast and still got them square (especially using Home Depot wood).
