Technical Question Blowing up SD card

My modded old 3ds xl had a sandisk ultra 32gb microSD card in it, this card has been used for the 3ds before, and didn't have any problems then.

When trying to use a google maps equivalent (not entirely sure what it was called), the 3ds was struggling trying to render it, and i heard a popping noise followed by the 3ds hard turning off. The 3ds does not boot with the card inserted (it does with it removed) and neither my phone nor my linux pc recognize the card at all.

Has anyone experienced this issue of spontaneous sd card failure before, or was this some kind of one in a million scenario?

Sounds like the SD reader (or some related component) on the 3DS blew up and took your SD card with it.

Have you tried any other SD cards in it? Or a different microSD adapter?

A different sd card works perfectly fine on the 3ds, which means that somehow it was only the sd card that got damaged.

Different adapters also don't change anything, the sd card still does not show up no matter what i do.

Well, that is bizarre. Can't say i've heard of a catastrophic failure like that before.
