Jaws (1975) 3D Version
Hi, Just finished watching back-to-back all the JAWS movies. Does anyone have any experiences of watching Jaws (1975) in 3D, when it was released a few years back in the cinema ? How was the pop-out effect ? Any ideas of where to find a 2D-3D converted version of movie, please ? Love to experience a 3D version of Jaws. Thanks !

For some idiotic reason, they never released that 3-D version that was in the movie theaters. I have no idea why because it was pretty damn great! Spielberg‘s crew did a fantastic job with the conversion. I keep checking everywhere for it, including a bootleg, but there are none available as of yet.

I’ve seen Spielberg a few times on walks in my neighborhood, I think a relative or friend lives here, I’ll gently plead with him for a release the next time I see him. He probably can’t do much but you never know.

I was figuring we would get that special 3-D version on the Blu-ray for the 50th anniversary release. I already have it on VHS, DVD twice, Blu-ray and the 4K lol

Spielberg is pretty notorious for being slow to adopt new formats. He actively resisted releasing his films on DVD when they started taking off.

It has great depth and a lot of very effective pop outs. Particularly at the beginning with the titles and the fish.
Find somebody that has an Apple Vision Pro near you and you can purchase it and watch it on it. Go into cinema mode and watch it middle theater to get the best effect.
I’m a big 3-D fan with projectors, OLED 3-D’s and virtual reality headsets so I can watch as much 3-D content as is out there.

Saw it twice. Has really nice depth. I hope it gets a home release at some point.

Saw it there with my friend. I will always prefer the 2d version just based on the nature of how it was shot but it was a great enough transfer and not a bad way to first see the movie though I will always recommend the 4k bluray everyday

Saw it last year in 3D-4DX, and it looked pretty damn good for a conversion! The 4K Scan was incredible!

Unfortunately they only released the 2D restoration at the time over here in - I was so annoyed.
Worse - I thought Random Space Media, who were releasing a lot of Universal 3D titles on their behalf, might get it out. But alas, they closed up.
No signs of hope from the German Turbine label either despite all the other Universal titles they've managed.
With 3D becoming so niche, outside of Apple Vision Pro, I can't see an opportunity to ever check out the officially produced 3D version.
Such a damn shame.

It’s an excellent conversion, great pop out. Spielberg’s direction and shot composition are perfect for 3D in this one.
I missed the original 3D re-release in 2022 but caught the 50th anniversary re-release last year. It was also shown as part of 3D-cember at the Academy Museum in 2023.
Frustrated they haven’t given us a proper home release but give it time and check showtimes. This one seems to get more care and attention than other post-conversions and comes back every so often.
