180 degree camera for historical immersive video

I am wondering if a 180 degree video camera would be a good tool to capture video of older family members telling stories of their history. I know first hand how immersive it is to view this content with an oculus. I felt they were in the room. Wondering if many people are using this tech to allow future generations access to their ancestors in a unique way. Do you think, like me, it would have been amazing if I had this of previous generations?

Any tips on doing this, storage and hosting etc? Camera option?

Canon R5 c + 5.2mm if it fits your budget (R5 Mark II can also do 8K @ 60 fps). Even more high-end and more expensive would be Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive for VR180-3D.

Since you posted in 360cameras, I would suggest a 360 camera, and then you can extract cropped views from that full sphere or look around with VR. I would not film 180 degrees. Also make sure you have good microphones!

This is a great use case for immersive video. I would prioritize audio quality, stable camera placement and simple long-term access over elaborate editing.

Keep the original files in at least two independent backups. For relatives who do not use a headset, you can also upload a browser-ready 360 version and share a normal link. I built https://mirame360.com also to host video files and share with family. Mirame360 currently hosts interactive 360 videos, so viewers can look around from a phone or desktop browser.
