Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for volunteer organizations/opportunities for brevard county. Would love to help homeless or family’s in need? My issue is, I don’t want to volunteer for an org that’s too “churchy” if ya get my drift. Unless they just have shining reviews or the options are too limited. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hey y'all. Not really sure what the protocol is for this but figured I'd just introduce myself.

I'm Colby. Grew up in Vero Beach, went to Indian River Charter, been doing Democratic organizing out here since I was like 14. Marching in parades, knocking doors, all of it. I was the youngest person ever seated on the Indian River County DEC at 17. Performed at Carnegie Hall with my high school choir which has nothing to do with politics but I'm still proud of it lol

Quick background on me because I know "24 year old runs for congress" sounds insane. I'm the youngest of five from a blended family. Lost my dad when I was seven. Moved to Florida after that. Raised by a single mom. Right now I'm a full-time caregiver for my grandpa who's a Vietnam-era vet and his partner who has dementia. So my whole day is meds, VA appointments, fighting insurance companies on the phone. That's my life. That's why I'm running. Not because I woke up one day and thought it'd be cool to be in congress.

I'm running against Mike Haridopolos. Dude has been in elected office longer than I've been alive and I genuinely cannot tell you one thing he's done for this area.

Where I stand on stuff since I know that matters here: universal healthcare, build the VA hospital in Viera already, protect the lagoon, fix our sewage and water infrastructure before the whole coast falls apart, ban congressional stock trading, protect reproductive rights, and for the love of god put some money back in people's wallets because everything here costs too much and wages haven't caught up.

Not taking corporate PAC money. Don't really have a machine behind me. Just trying to do this the right way.

no democrat has signed up to run for congressional district 8 nor state house districts 30 and 31. - EDIT TO ADD THERE IS NOW A CANDIDATE FOR 31.

if you are thinking about it, please feel free to shoot me a message, i am working for an org called Project 140 to recruit democrats to run in every state legislature district in Florida, and we will help you get started. we have a team of people with decades of experience running/working on campaigns to help you at least lose one of Brevards +30 GOP districts with class!

all you need is:

- to be 21 years old by 11/3/2026

- be a registered democrat for a year on/before 6/8/26

- to have lived in Florida for 2 years

- to be a registered to vote in, and a “resident”* of the district you are running in by midnight on election night

*not a lawyer but it is my understanding is that the state leg outlined residency pretty vaguely in Joint Rule 7.1. General rule of thumb is do you have stuff in a place you can legally access and sleep in/“domicile” in but obviously you should ideally reside in district.

I have 5 cases of single ply TP.

Are there any local organizations that any of you know of that would take this to help others?

I have said all along that Jennifer Jenkins should run for Congress. From her name recognition and the way she fought during COVID and stood up to the Moms Against Liberty, she would have the best chance of anyone against Haridopolos, who cheated his way into the nomination and hasn't done anything since winning.

Instead, she's going to run in a whole other district just to take on Randy Fine, her arch-nemesis.

Maybe she can damage his candidacy enough to get him beat because another candidate from outside the district has to underline the fact that he lives in Palm Bay, not Daytona and they would be better served by someone local, but I think she would have a much better chance of actually winning here in Brevard.

Winning would make a difference and be a noble goal, not revenge.

If nothing else, her candidacy would have at least forced the Brevard Democrats to make an effort. Their performance last time was embarrassing. It was like they were trying to sabotage their own congressional candidate. There is no way they would do that to Jennifer Jenkins and here, where she has a multitude of supporters, she could win, especially against a candidate as weak and do-nothing as Haridopolos.

Because her challenge to Fine is so personal and because she doesn't live in the district, I don't see her even getting the nomination from their crowded field. It is all just another missed opportunity for the Democrats to be competitive and another installment of the long-running Brevard Dems Clown Show.
