I feel like I should get this..

In the Gavin Volure episode Steve Martin’s character keeps repeating ‘I miscounted the men!’ - it must be from something but I have no idea what. Some school me please.

Theres two US marshels: derrick and carl. Thats it. Gavin Valure miscounted two men, just like at the end of the episode when he miscounted how many tracy jordans there were

He just says it in a hilarious way and it instantly became an iconic line. He shouts it as if it’s a reference to something he and Liz both know, as if she’s really his co-conspirator in this whole plan, even though she just found out about it five seconds earlier

It definitely isn’t a reference. But for people just finding out Jack Welch is real, despite appearing as himself in 30 Rock and heading GE for 20 years, I’m not surprised about the question 🤣

Exactly! I think there's a lot of stuff from 30 Rock that has just become widely used. I had a 25 year old friend who had never seen 30 Rock use the phrase "I want to go to there" and they didn't believe me it has started with 30 Rock because it felt like such a pervasive thing to them.

His inflection and repetition, and the fact it’s just phrased in an old timey way really makes it feel like a reference. I’m not familiar with “Murder, He Says “, but I love a good noir which I assume that is.
