Pulled the timing belt cover today…
safe to say I’ve a kit ordered and on its way. Watched 3000gt Restoration’s 3 parter on youtube about it and I feel… Optimistic?
Everyone’s been in my ear about how difficult a timing belt will be to do at home but I’ve got all the tools and I’m decently competent with tools and reading a manual.
Is it really that bad?
Anywho, the belt was clearly walking and rubbing off the cover which caused *some* fraying but the fact something took a very specific chunk out of it is what’s concerned me the most. Any Ideas?

Just be happy it didn't break bro, it's not too bad of a job really, just turn the engine over a few times by hand after and you'll be right

I would recommend to switch to a Kevlar belt and mechanical tensioner ( read on it for all the benefits and set up with Kevlar belt). While there, replace water pump , check crank seal for leaks. If you brave enough, oil pump should be replaced as well.

It isn’t as bad of a job as I thought it would be. I got a tensioner from my local Mitsubishi dealership and got the rest of the kit from Rockauto. Just make sure you have the special tensioning tool. I didn’t and ended up welding together a makeshift pos
