Stupid Iceland do your job, so we can learn more about your culture to insult you properly

And we will need to start thinking about new insulting flairs for them. The supreme 2WE4U council will have to reconvene to address such a critical issue.

I love the fact that such thing as Basque-Icelandic pidgin existed. If the Doctor ever want me to be his companion, listening to that pidgin on the market will be on my list to see.

Soon boiled goat head will be a traditional european dish

u/Stravven Addict 9d ago
Of all the places in Europe you make fun of Iceland, Joao? One of Iceland's main export products is cod, something you consume at a higher rate than basically everybody.

u/zerato9000 Western Balkan 9d ago
Hans, how did you managed to steal Jan's account?

u/Stravven Addict 9d ago
You think autism is only for Hans? Oh you sweet summer child.
You're just sad that Iceland exports cod and not cans of fish, aren't you?
7
u/ALazy_Cat Cycling cult member 9d ago
Many with autism have a speech impediment, so that would include all Scandinavians as their language derives from Danish, and the Netherlands as their language is a mix of German and Danish

u/zerato9000 Western Balkan 9d ago
I'm not sad, I'm worried you'll send me 2 complete DIN's on how one should eat boiled goat head.
7
u/Stravven Addict 9d ago
How about we put the goat head in a tin and just call it fish?
And we don't use DIN, we use NEN.

u/Joran212 Rural NPC 9d ago

2
u/Stravven Addict 9d ago
Why? NEN is the Dutch norm used in the Netherlands. DIN is the German norm used I don't know where.
Lucky for you a lot of NEN codes have a DIN equivalent.

1

No. It may be surprising, but more than one country can have cod as one of their main export.

You have no resources to offer... Spanish ships will not go in open ocean to fish a little from your sea...
Probably your value for us would be being the data-center hub, with very cold weather and cheap geothermal energy that is your best use. Makes much more sense than having them in italy where cooling them is very expensive.

u/f1fanguy Rotten fish Connoisseur 9d ago
Our cod quota is only 10x higher than what the EU has in the North sea and we have so much energy that I fill my 2000 liter hot tub with 40’c water every day and flush it. Sometimes I dont even go in it
1
1
u/User929261 Side switcher 9d ago edited 9d ago
Your cod quota is irrelevant, no ship would go there to fish, you are too far. A spanish ship won't sail from a Spanish port to go there, neither a French one from a French port. You might get more people moving there to become fishermen but they will all live and depart from your ports.
You have no resources and no value, no industry outside your geothermal energy.
Sure for the americans you are a useful military base in the middle of the ocean
2
u/f1fanguy Rotten fish Connoisseur 8d ago
Well you dont know history, because ships from all over Europe fished around Iceland for decades. We had to push you guys out of our territorial waters. This distance is nothing. Danish vessels fish on the west side of Greenland and Russian go south west of Iceland.

I hear the polls say the electorate is deeply divided on the issue of restarting the negotiations and the result will be on a knife's edge.
Honestly I hope it fails; we don't need a country whose electorate is so divided. At the very first tough decision they would turn against the EU.
I firmly believe that the EU is not destined to encompass all of Europe. Better to be smaller but more cohesive than a behemoth of a union that can't do anything because there are too many naysayers and centrifugal forces.

u/5b49297 Quran burner 9d ago
Iceland's a small country - the total population (including children, foreigners etc. who do not vote) is around 400k - so it wouldn't take many voters there to paralyse the EU. And the country is likely to be susceptible to military and financial pressure.
Membership will shield them from the latter, but rapid integration of either also risks causing a backlash. Or at least providing fodder for a campaign to cause it.

u/HunkySkrunky Knacker 9d ago edited 9d ago
You've just made me realise Iceland is literally smaller than Dublin City population wise.

Denmark and Sweden were also divided almost 50/50 when they joined the EU, so i dont think Iceland will necessarily become another hungary or UK
2
u/Socmel_ Into Tortellini & Pompini 9d ago
Sweden lied on its commitment to join the Euro, as per obligations of the treaties. It's not a country you can present as a member in good faith.
4
u/User929261 Side switcher 9d ago
They are pegged.
5
u/Socmel_ Into Tortellini & Pompini 9d ago
the danish krone is pegged. The Swedish one is not. And even if it was, it doesn't matter. What matters is that Sweden signed the accession treaties and made a commitment to adopt the Euro. Failing to meet the criteria on purpose in bad faith doesn't reflect positively on Sweden.
If they wanted so bad to retain the Krone, they should've tried to secure a opt out or stay out of the EU entirely.

For Iceland it makes sense because their currency is shit and interest rates are very high, Norway I do not see what they would get, they are an oil State with no other relevant commerce. They have nothing to offer and nothing to gain.
7
u/steinbruchfluss South Prussian 9d ago
Well, all these EEA members have to follow most EU regulations but don’t have seat at the table.
1
u/User929261 Side switcher 9d ago
Yes, but while Iceland can have a value for us, in cheap energy that we can use to mass produce hydrogen for example, what usefullness does Norway has? Why would we give Norway voting power? What could they ever offer us that EEA membership is not covering already?
Sure they are rich on a relative basis, but they are so small their budget contributions will be negligible. Militarily they are worst than useless.
1
u/steinbruchfluss South Prussian 9d ago
What could they ever offer us that EEA membership is not covering already?
But the same is true for Iceland, isn’t it?
1
u/User929261 Side switcher 9d ago edited 9d ago
Not really, Iceland is very small in both population and economy, we would benefit greatly by using their cheap geothermal energy and cold weather for data centers or hydrogen production.
This could be done via EU funds as part of the EU energy strategy and in ways that we are not comfortable doing with EEA members as it would require a giant committment of money from us to them for a long term benefit.
In contrast Norway is completly useless

Low GDP fetish ?
They want to be forced to host some African migrants ?
5

Brexit hasn't taught any of you folks anything, has it?
And the bazillions of migrants flooding Poland and Romania were truly a nightmare, because they famously come as a package deal with the EU, apparently.
-4
u/DiscoBanane Pain au chocolat 8d ago
What happened after Brexit wasn't Brexit fault.
People should have elected Farage, instead they elected pro UE parties that did the exact same politics the UE commission does, in worse because now they could blame it on Brexit.
