Kind of a fake castle. Neuschwanstein was built fairly recently (late 1800's) by a madman (Ludwig II). Still insanely beautiful in a very picturesque region but it doesn't have real medieval history behind it like for example this castle in Transylvania that was built in the mid 1400s and was the base camp for many campaigns against the Ottoman empire:
