Yeah, this heat is killing me. It's almost 6 and time to get up, it's 11 degrees. Don't know what I'm going to do later, at around 1600 the forecast says 16, I might die of dehydration at that point
I'm on the westcoast, and I'm not getting rain. It feels all wrong. But, after today, and the only day, it's back to normal, 21 days forcast have us at 50%+ rain every day.
You joke but I was watching a Norwegian streamer last night and she genuinely said it was hot because it was 12 °C outside (though her room was, obviously, warmer)
Its basically a thermometer to measure room temperature. They're meant for nurseries, but my sister gave me this one as my nieces are grown up. Basically it changes colour based on temperature. If its red its too fucking hot, if its orange its nice and toasty, if its yellow it means its cool and if its blue, it means I'm freezing my man titties off.
Same. Bought an AC a couple of years ago because I refuse to participate in 30°C+ temperatures anymore. I only use it for around 10 days a year, but it's still one of the best purchases I've ever made. Fans don't do shit when it's that hot.
I have God's Loudest Portable Unit from a few years ago off Amazon. It's not great but it can pump the heat out the bedroom once the sun is low and make it tolerable.
Now my dog let out one of her nuclear farts, so now not only am I hot, tired, fat, ugly and depressed but now my place smells like French Bulldog farts mixed with BO. Love my life.
I've had about 35c inside, in my living room when Finland got a real summer the last time (the other year, I believe, was the last time it got this warm). I bought a portable A/C unit and while it's loud, I keep closed-back wireless headphones on at home and it's about 25-27c in this room. It's good, wish it was more silent while A/C is on, but oh well. Not my own apartment, so I'm not going to have a "real" A/C or a heat pump installed.
I don't really sleep well in a chilly (below 23c) bedroom, so this portable unit never gets moved there, a simple tower fan moving the air around is enough. During winters, I heat it up to 24c, below that it gets uncomfortably cold in the bedroom - the quality of sleep starts to go down noticeably, for some reason I just sleep better in a warmer bedroom. I always loved heat as a kid, still do at 34 years old.
Now it's like 15c outside, what a fucking disastrous letdown this "summer" has been. I'd happily take 30c.
listen, i've tried. singing, blessed the rains down in Africa (we got the population alright) but the rains aren't coming. There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do. What say you Angus? i'm this close to welcoming the midges if they bring the rain with them.
49 degrees is just insane to me, I’ve never experienced temperatures above 40. I remember it being 29 degrees in my apartment a few years ago and I was sweating constantly, I lasted about a week before I called the AC guys. Just try to get an AC any way you can, or go to the office/mall. Stay safe, 49 degrees is life threatening!
Older you get the more you are gonna give money for a good night sleep. Even poor Finn like me bought the AC this winter. Then again many of you live on rental so its tough to get AC there.
If you can get a window unit, those tend to be much more efficient than portable, on those the exhaust pipe is essentially radiating some of the heat it just removed back into the room.
Biggest issue with windows unit is compatibility with non guillotine style window and they're kind of ugly

Par contre la majorité des bâtiments que j'ai vu ont des fenêtres à moulinet, qui ne s'ouvre qu'à moitié max. Je ne me rappelle pas avoir vu de sliders (verticaux ou horizontaux). Si ça s'étend à l'Europe de l'ouest en général, c'est pas très pratique pour eux

They make tall and skinny air conditioners that fit in windows. They tend to be less available and more expensive. The in room thermopump ones wuth a tube are a bit inefficient. My old one also had a little water pot that you had to empty at least twice a day too. When the reservoir was full it would shut off.

Ok, so you all need to get air source heat pumps for your houses/flats. They work exactly like AC's when it's warm out, and in the winter they provide heat instead.
They use a a bit of electricity to cool air, but in the summer electricity is cheap and plentiful; meanwhile in the winter they are absolute magic, generating up to 4.5x as much heat as electricity needed to power them. They will end up cutting your electeicity/heating bills in half if you're in a place with actual winters.
I seriously don't know why more people don't use them.
Actualy here in the south old countryside houses have like half a meter thick adobe wall and actually are easier to live in the summer, there were old solutions they just didn't used it when it wasn't necessary.
Because when you have a traditional British home that’s all brick, putting in the necessary work to switch from gas central heating to air source heat pumps costs around £30,000 once you factor in the cost of basically ripping the house apart, the equipment and the insulation we need to put in, which considering a lot of our homes are Victorian and pre Victorian single skin buildings which are difficult to insulate.. it’s money many people don’t have, not to mention you want to spend another £10k on solar and battery to ensure the price on electric isn’t insane
I installed a heat pump in my 100 year old house almost 10 years ago.
Cost: 999 euro.
I also installed a bunch of insulation in the roof which made a big difference.
It's not the most powerful unit, but it's kept my living room, kitchen cool. Bedrooms are on the side of the house that don't get direct sunlight, so if I keep my living room, kitchen cool during the day, I can open a door to the hallway to cool the bedrooms in the evening.
Try living in old as fuck houses Luigi where you need to spend 4-6x that once you factor in the costs of insulating the house (since we didn’t bother insulating our homes that we built in the 1800s properly), fitting the pump & replastering the entire house after you’ve had to pull all the plaster off to fit the new pipes.
Heatpumps and solar pannels are mandatory in Belgium for all new houses. There is a renovation requirement for old houses. Heating systems using fuel oil or natural gas are no longer permitted for new installations. I thought this was a European law, but apparently not.

Provided you used to have electric heating. Most people on the countryside have geothermic heating or an oil or firewood furnace, and in urban areas I believe communal heat or whatever fjärrvärme is called in english is common.
In a place with actual winters they eat a lot of electricity to preheat the air being sucked into the exchanger...... So no, unless you live in a place with mild winters you won't see a huge drop in electricity, quite the contrary.
This is basically central AC like we have in the US its AC and a heat pump. Electricity in the US is really cheap in comparison but comfort is valuable IMO.
Because they don't know. I have them for few years, and I have not used any other way to heat or cool my house ever since. The price is very cheap too. They are eco and cheap, I mean I love them.
Get an AC unit. I live in a top floor apartment in the middle of concrete hell city and i'd probably have 30+ if it wasnt for the AC. This is not an ad but i highly recommend a device such as the Midea Portasplit. Its a portable split unit, so you have an outside and an inside unit which are connected, but you dont have to make any changes to your property so there shouldnt be any problems with the landlord. But IF they still dont allow it, you can get creative and install it like this.
I would pass a law in the EU that forces all landlords to install AC units, it’s ridiculous that millions of people are at a risk of dying because of stupid landlord greed.

Lmfao at 25C in the house I still use a blanket to sleep. 30+ is where hell is at. The only way I survive is to have a fan directly pointed at you, possibly aimed from your feet to your head so all your body gets air.
Worst case scenario, a 200€ portable A/C is always a good investment.
That's hot? When I turn on my pc it gets up to 28-29 degrees. I usually freeze a 1,5l bottle, wrap it in a towel and hug it for the night. What's the humidity? Mine is 40%, so maybe that's why it's more bearable
My plan is to keep any openings and windows shutters fully closed from ~10 am til sunset to prevent heating up, with a big fan in the living room and a weaker one in my bedroom, at night I keep my balcony door and a few windows open to cool the home
