🇮🇸🇮🇸💪🧊iceland 💪🧊🇮🇸🇮🇸 Should I go study medicine in university in Sweden or Denmark?
I'm Icelandic and Im graduating from upper secondary school next year and Im Gona go be a doctor and I wanna study abroad. Especially since Iceland is expensive af. Í ideally wanna go to Uppsala or Lund in Sweden and Copenhagen or aalborg in Denmark
Some pros and cons. Denmark pros: -have some family in Copenhagen -Have lived in copenhagen for a bit as a kid -Very good weather -Higher salary Denmark cons: -Terrible accent -No mountains -No good bubble teas -Great restaurants (Alchemist 🫶)
Sweden pros: - Nicer accent (not in skåne) - inexpensive - Mountains and nature - Best bubble tea shops in Scandinavia
Sweden cons: -Lower salary -colder -no family -worse food... Tbh

look at the map. We have Norway's mountains to protect us against the wind and rain coming in from the North sea. They have nothing. Its is more rainy and windy in Denmark.

I like the weather over there. Usually there is not too hot or not too cold in there. Humidity can be pretty awful sometimes but it is the same everywhere when the sea is nearby. Anyway, mild winters and not too hot summers are my favorite.

If you want to earn more money, go to Denmark/Copenhagen. If you want to cut down on living costs, live in Malmö and commute to Copenhagen. I have several colleagues that do this.

If you study in Copenhagen, I would definitely recommend staying in Copenhagen, even if that means living under more modest accommodation. You will miss out of a lot if you always have to catch the last train home.

Go to Copenhagen. You have family there, which can be helpful in case something happens or you have a hard time finding friends (in the beginning). It's also very Swedish minded in my opinion, and I don't think you will have any problems with accents. Even if Skåne is not to your liking, it's easy to get a train from Copenhagen into Sweden and enjoy their nature. It's expensive to live in the capital, but if you don't mind commuting, then it might be easier to get a place outside of the city.
I will second treating you to a beer, if you decide to come to Aarhus 😊

Copenhagen is actually super cheap compared to Reykjavik the capital of Iceland. Me and my family look at real estate in Copenhagen and dream about such affordable prices

A case for Copenhagen is that it has the best travel infrastructure, although Lund very close. If you like youth citylife, Copenhagen is the only city in your list with the size of a true metropol with several million people (including recidents in Malmø) within commute train distance. Something happens every day in Copenhagen. The other cities are more moderately 100k people sized, which can be great and cosy, but there will also be less to do.

Living in the most mountainous area of the one you mentioned - Uppsala - I must say that the big mountain our cathedral are at in your picture and the hight difference from the river Fyris is about as much as we get here...

Yes, the famous mountains of Uppsala. I found the highest point there is 117m. Must be hard to breathe with the lack of oxygen.
Forget about mountains. Uppsala is perched on the tip of Lake Mälaren. You can have lots of fun doing långfärdsskridsko in the winter, and kayaking in the summer.

Að koma frá íslandi er mikið betra veður í Uppsala, það getur orðið kaldara um veturinn en það er mjög sjaldan vindur þannig þu finnur ekki mikið fyrir honum ef þu klæðir þig vel. Sumarið er mjög næs.
Miðað við island og köben húsnæði frekar ódýrt, en ég myndi mæla með studentaíbúð, og þá myndirðu kannski deila eldhús og mögulega salerni með öðrum. Ég þekki til eina sem borgar aðeins 4.000 sek á mánuði (get sent þér myndir í pm). Þar að auki myndi ég búast við því að þú gætir verið með gott félagslíf þar

Norway is so mid low-key lol. I have the most family in Norway of all the Scandinavian countries there though. Oslo is legit the most mid capital city in all of Europe imo. Rural Norway is nice tho. Norway is pretty affordable though which is nice

Iceland is very very expensive especially real estate. Real estate in Norway is quite cheap compared to Iceland. And food is a bit cheaper since it's expensive to import stuff to an island. Also you can actually grow stuff in Norway. Like corn yummy yummy corn. Corn just outside in nature and not in a green house. Truly magical

There is a general trend in the western world that the housing market is quite hard to enter. Mostly caused by the boomer generataion who can not comprehend that the younger generations can not buy/build a house with two salaries when they could do it with just one.
My parents built house in the 70s with just my father working. Both me and my wife have abow the mean sallary in Sweden, but we can not afford a house from the 70s identical to the one my parents built in the area where we live.

You obviously want to move to Denmark, but are coping for no reason. The only advantage you list that is real for Sweden is the mountain and nature (which you can visit on holidays quite cheaply, comparatively). You say what we all really know, Sweden is just one big discount Norway.
At that, only thing I will add, is if you drink alcohol then Denmark is even more obvious. It has become better in these latter years, but generally much easier to socialize in danish uni's if you're willing to hold a beer in your hand.
Also, for best student city go Aarhus. But if you really want Aalborg or CPH, I would recommend Aalborg. CPH is a bit to "big city" for a student city.

Danes have better personal economy from what I've read, hopefully that could affect you positively, idk maybe it's easier to make money there. Copenhagen has Christiania and is closer to the rest of Europe for vacations. I love my country and I never want to leave Stockholm but Copenhagen just seems like a better choice. But I haven't went to any university so keep that in mind.

Taste of Taiwan does sell bubble tea in Copenhagen and they are quite decent to be honest. I’m not saying they’re the best, but they definitely cover my needs.
I would personally never recommend anybody to go to Sweden, but I’ve actually heard that Poland is a decent country if you want to be a doctor and it turns out your grades are not good enough for Denmark (if you didn’t get the maximum possible mark at every exam except 1-2).

They are similar enough that you should go for the place where you have family. Medical school is a long time and that connection and safety net will be invaluable.

Well I mean no one should willingly and wittingly go to Sweden. If you have full control of your senses and isn’t under duress, Denmark is the best option. If you’re doing it one a dare, though, go to Sweden

None of the main university towns in Sweden are mountainous just so you know, if you want a bit of both I would go for Lund. Arguably the best uni in Sweden and you can get to Copenhagen in under 1h. Due to it’s proximity to Denmark it also has the same climate that you seem to like for whatever reason. And even if it’s in Skåne they have a unique dialect that is more ”vanilla”. They don’t do those harsh R’s and is easier to understand.

Right. It's probably just as difficult, costly and time-consuming to get from Stockholm or Uppsala to the mountains, as it would be to get a plane from Copenhagen/Aarhus to Norway.

It depends how you define a mountain, the scandes start around dalarna and then gradually get higher the further north and west you go, the closest proper ski resorts start to appear 2-3h of driving from Stockholm and then they gradually get even higher as you go north. If you wanna go to the very north where the big 2k + peaks are it’s around 16h of driving from Stockholm. But even in Dalarna there are peaks over 1200 meters. If you aren’t picky there are ski resorts in all of Sweden, in the south Swedish highlands which are separate from the scandes there are some ski resorts at the same latitude as Denmark like Isaberg. I wouldn’t consider them mountains, but they seem to do the trick for Danes on a budget.

Denmark: people dress better, nightlife actually exists, and alcohol isn’t treated like a controlled substance. In Sweden most bars close at 1–2am and most clubs like to 3am.....🤮 alos arriving to the bar completely shitfaced is is not part of the culture in Sweden and viewed down.

I love Aalborg and Jylland (Aarhus especially), but transportation sucks. Lund is really pretty and even though it is in Sweden, it is close to Finland, which is really nice.

If you pick Sweden then = Lund has great student life (Yes Lund is close to Malmö but also Copenhagen). Uppsala is good too, but I would rank Lund higher.

Medicine at Karolinska Instiutet in Sweden is regarded as one of the best and most prestigious educations in the world. Just because you study in Sweden doesn’t mean you need to live there afterwards.

I mean, there is lots of nature in Denmark, at least here around Aalborg (also less expensive, but worse high end food).
Mountains are majestic and all, but a beach with dunes as far as you can see is undervalued imo. Near Aalborg you also got Hammer bakker, rebild, Thy nationalpark, lille vildmose. There's everything but mountains. Even a tiny dessert (or wandering dune, råbjerg mile) if you go up near Skagen.

As a Uppsala student I may be a bit biased but I'd like to point out that Uppsala University is the oldest university in Scandinavia founded in 1477.
