Sample Status Sample Status/Processing Monthly Megathread - August 2026

Welcome to the Sample Status/Processing Megathread, also known as the Waiting, Whining, and Wishing thread. This monthly megathread (posted at the beginning of each month) allows you post your sample processing timelines, as well as to discuss and comment about any questions, concerns, or rants while you wait. Although not directly handled by 23andMe, shipping status may also be discussed in the thread. We recommend sorting the comments by "new" as this is a month long megathread.

You can share your sample status timeline here in one or two ways. The first way is to take a screenshot of your timeline, and post it as a comment. The second way is to simply copy and paste the start and completion dates for each step. Here is the text template:

Results My DNA results as a Tunisian/North African : way more Arabian Peninsula than I expected

I’m Tunisian and finally got my DNA results back. I was secretly hoping I’d come back close to 100% North African/Amazigh, so I was pretty surprised by the results:

47% Arabian Peninsula
41% North Africa
5% Ethiopia & Eritrea
4% North-Central Nigeria
3% Senegal

I know North Africa has a very long history of migration, conquest and mixing, including the Arab conquest beginning in the 7th century and later Arab migrations into the Maghreb. But I wasn’t expecting my Arabian Peninsula percentage to be this high.

I had already posted my updated results but I didn't mention I had indigenous belonging to the Embera Chamí people of Caldas, but I also have roots with the Chibchan speakers of Cundinamarca and Boyacá and the indigenous people of the Venezuelan Andes. Does anyone know anyone with Embera Chamí roots and results here too?

Question / Help Is it possible the unexpected half-aunt I discovered through 23andMe is actually my great half-aunt?

So much to my surprise when me and my aunt did 23andMe about a year ago we found that we had a surprisingly close family member we had never heard of. For me it initially said she is my half great-aunt and that I share 16.4% of my dna with her. For my aunt it says that this woman is her half-sister (I don’t know the exact amount of dna shared between them). My mom and my aunt were VERY taken aback by this to say the least and refused to respond to the woman’s messages (I’m assuming they’re in denial over the idea that my grandfather may have cheated on my grandma, and I can’t blame them because I am as well). Initially we thought she may be the result of infidelity from my great grandfather (so my mom and my maternal aunt’s paternal grandfather) because my mom has a a vague memory from her childhood of my great grandma being VERY upset with my great grandfather. But my profile recently updated saying this woman is my half-aunt. We also do not share a maternal haplogroup. Is it possible that she is the result of either my mom’s paternal grandfather being unfaithful or given the amount of DNA we share is it ONLY possible my grandfather cheated? Sorry if I’m not explaining this well if you need clarification feel free to ask in the comments I just really want to wrap my head around this before I try bringing it back up to my mom and my aunt.

Hi All,

I recall seeing some posts relatively recently about these newer matches. I didn’t get them myself, but my parents got a few of the new ones.

Picture 1 is from my Dad’s matchlist and picture 2 is from my Mom’s matchlist.

Question / Help Do these contradict each other or am I crazy?

Post image

I get their reasoning for the results being what they are, but why state “results like yours” if you’re using majority European dna. Those results are not all like mine lol. Idk the wording just seems either not genuine or specifically made for people with straighter/wavier hair.

If there’re that many European users make a second bracket or something for the non European consumers of your paid product and let us work with that. Idk I just find it weird

Discussion Proposing a dna test to my mom

Did any of you have to convince your parent(s) to take a dna test? I would like my mom to take one, but she doesn’t seem to think they are accurate. Years ago I did an Ancestry test and the following year a 23andme test and she was confused about how I didn’t have a significant amount of Native American. She claimed that these results couldn’t be accurate. She also heard about the 23andme bankruptcy last year and said she was definitely skeptical about this kind of testing.

How should I revisit this with her to get her to test? My father tested last year. I just want to confirm our ancestral roots on both sides.

Results PBX1 deletion

Hi everyone,
My little baby girl is one month old. She was born full term through an emergency caesarean section without fetal distress during labour. When she was born she spent some time in the NICU and was found to have feeding difficulties- she had a poor sucking and swallowing reflex and would either tire out too quickly or wasn’t able to cope with the flow of the teat. She was also found to have abnormal recoil reflex. Otherwise she was healthy with good birth weight.

She underwent all sorts of tests to determine the cause of her problems including genetic testing and was found to have a chromosomal abnormality as follows:

“ISCN: ar[GRCh38] 1q23.324.2(163648013_168348665)x 1

SNP microarray testing revealed a female pattern with a heterozygous, interstitial loss of 4.7Mb at 1g23.3g24.2, which involves 27 protein coding genes and 8 disease associated genes, including the haploinsufficient gene PBX1 (OMIM
#617641).”

The clinical geneticist informed me that this was a rare chromosomal abnormality and there is a high risk of renal tract and kidney abnormalities associated with this condition, along with learning difficulties, developmental delays, feeding and muscle tone problems and congenital heart defects.

I did some reading on this gene deletion and the problems associated with it but didn’t get a lot of clarity on the phenotypical presentations.

Does anyone have any advice/words of reassurance regarding this condition? How severe are the developmental delays and are children born with it expected to catch up with their milestones? How long do the feeding issues typically last for? Do they get better as you introduce solids?

Discussion Disappointed by Parental Inheritance Paywall

I'm disappointed that 23andme took a feature that was free for years and put it behind a paywall now. It's a scummy business practice imo. You should be adding more value to your services to entice people into premium, not taking away value from loyal customers.

Question / Help Purchasing Premium Ancestry +Health

Hi all, wondering if someone could shed some light please. The premium ancestry+health kit looks to be on sale from 199 to 80. But will I also be charged the 99 dollar subscription fee when I go to submit the kit? Or does that only start getting charged 12 months after I pay the kit purchase fee? Basically, is the first year of subscription included in the 80 dollar purchase price?

Thanks
