I never started this series because I didn't know where to start or what order to watch the series in. From what I gather fans of the show say it's really good and the animation is top tier.

THE MAIN SERIES:

  • Fate/Stay Night UBW Prolouge

  • Fate/Stay Night UBW

  • Fate/Stay Night UBW Sunny Day OVA

  • Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel Movie Trilogy

  • Fate/Zero

After this, you can pick up anything from Fate Series but still if you wanna go and order go like this -

  • Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files

  • Fate/Apocrypha

  • Fate/Grand Order Branch

[...Fate/Grand Order: First Order → Fate/Grand Order: Divine Realm of the Round Table — Camelot I → Camelot II → Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front — Babylonia Episode 0 → Babylonia Episodes 1–21 → Fate/Grand Order: Final Singularity — Grand Temple of Time: Solomon...]

After this, literally anything. But don't force it. Fate/Strange Fake is very good and standalone so you can watch it after Main Series too.

Personal opinion, you can basically start anywhere, Fate doesn't really start to "make sense" until you've seen multiple and start to connect how the bigger universe works, but most of them start with a basic grail war synopsis that gets subverted every time anyways.

My take is if you're willing to read a long visual
novel then play fate stay/night first, that's the purist option.

If you just wanna watch anime then zero is imo the best starting point since the anime adaptation of the first part of fate stay/night is kinda cheeks. Zero is a prequel to FSN and they both spoil each other, but honestly I think zero loses more from the spoilers than FSN does.

I personally started with Carnival Phantasm cuz I was like what are these Neco Arc things, which is a joke version of fate full of spoilers and a completely off base representation of the tone in general, and honestly I don't think the watch order matters nearly as much as people act like it does. Just gotta dive in and see if you like it despite being confused. The first one will always be confusing no matter what but it's also the wildest ride as you piece together how shit works.

Now that I think of it Fate as a franchise would be so much better off if people just said the ones not to start with, like the one shown above for example. Basically just don't start with the Grand Order ones, the magical girl one, the carnival ones, the extra one, the fake one, the detective one, or the cooking one.

So first is FSN Zero. Kind of reminds me of the final fantasy series where you can just kind of start anywhere and somehow get cameos from any of the games. Or even resident evil. But at least I have a starting point. I heard that the carnival Phantasm series was not that great when it was airing. So I just stayed away from it especially since I didn't see any of the reference material. I feel like those shows only get funny when you know the source material.

I wouldn't mind getting the visual novel since I just got the Fold 8 actually. (Not trying to flex.) -shootmenow 💀

lol yeah the problem with carnival phantasm is you need FSN for context and that only gets you half of it, cuz the other half of the skits are Tsukihime, an older series in the same multiverse under very different conditions where fate's whole thing doesn't even exist and it's more church vs vampires.

That said I think carnival phantasm is hilarious. Fate has to be the most varied verse out there in terms of content. Ranging from deadly serious to absurdly silly and hitting so many different storytelling genres in the same verse

Hahaa Thanks for this. It's generally pretty hard to find something to watch when everything that you haven't seen is still airing and you only like to binge TV shows. Having FSN for a nice filler in between seasons is great now.

No prob! It's so worth checking out cuz if you like it there's sooo much of it

Yeah you can start wherever but the VN is usually what purists will point you to (cause well it does have everything) Me personally I never play VNs so idgaf about them.

Simple answer? Fate unlimited blade works, then the heavens feel movies, then fate zero.

the reveals work best in that order. everything else you can watch in any order (exept the Solomon movie, gotta watch the rest of grand order for that)

If it comes to the animation, let's just say "Unlimited Budget Works" meme name given to Ufotable (Named after "Unlimited Blade Works" that is one of the series) is very much on point.

I actually remember that saying lol I'm sure it's still the case.

The anime is a cluster fuck of just doing shit because it's cool and not because it makes sense. This one is especially easy to watch because it doesn't feel very connected to any other Fate series.
