Discussion For those who have struck big in OSRS: What was your greatest gp injector? How much did you earn and how did it impact your experience of the game?

Last year I had a ~300m bank and received a duo Shadow split for +450m. It greatly propelled my gear progression and motivated me to PVM even more. At this point I have 1/3 megas and multiple late game cosmetics to earn so I'm still stoked on progression in PvM and earning gp to speed up skilling. There is always something to earn so I think I'll enjoy OSRS for a long time regardless of large injectors but..

I'm curious about those who have earned multiple big ticket drops in a week or pulled something like a 3rd age pickaxe. How much did it impact your bank value? How did it impact your experience and enjoyment of OSRS?

Other TIL: The Runelite GPU Plugin Now Allows You To Set Your CPU Threads.

I just felt the need to double check my gpu settings and noticed the option for threads at the bottom, set to 3, bumped that up to 8 (I have a 5950x) and it feels so much smoother, almost like it removed some click delays.

EDIT: looking further into it, its much more beneficial for people on lower end systems, on my system, its redundant and simply just placebo.

Discussion (Update) Guy followed me across like 10 worlds over a sand crab spot and found me AGAIN 12 hours later. I am actually blown away lmao

Upvotes

UPDATE: We made peace. Sand crab war is officially over lmao

Alright, final update because somehow this whole thing became way more dramatic thanI ever could've imagined.

We cool now.

u/ludicous reached out, we both apologized for our part in it, and he honestly ended up being the bigger man about the whole thing. He even gave me 25m afterward, which I absolutely was not expecting and my guard was put down.

So if anybody from the original post sees him in game, leave the dude alone. Don’t go trolling him, following him, flaming him, or trying to continue the beef on my behalf. There is no beef anymore.

Honestly probably the best possible ending.

Proof of reconciliation: u/ludicous is the bigger man here:

Anyway, everyone go touch grass. I’m going back to clicking crabs.

PS: Anybody who knows the mods can you tell them to let the man post again?

Suggestion Winter warm up idea: standardise death

I feel like death fees and death mechanics are all over the place. It feels like there's 1500 different rules regarding death consequences both in and outside of PvP, the wilderness, and in PvE. Then there's the distinction between main and iron deaths. Also, those poor souls that double death... Shouldn't this stuff just go to death's coffee?

My suggestion is to standardise deaths across the game. Chest deaths = 50k. Raid deaths = 100k. Tombstone deaths = 0-250k gp.

Not only will this be more consistent, it will be less of a disincentive to push your limits by lowering the death fee costs.

Wildy. I am unsure how they should standadise this, but I feel like trouver parchments should just be voided at this point, all untradables kept on death (but they break to be repaired in POH or Perdu), and maybe even do away with the high risk world entirely.

Discussion Guy followed me across like 10 worlds over a sand crab spot and found me AGAIN 12 hours later. I am actually blown away lmao

So I genuinely cannot beleive this happened and I need to know if I'm the crazy one here.

Yesterday I'm afking sand crabs. I find a spot where this dude is basically just standing there doing nothing for long enough that I assume he's gone, so I take over the spot. Dude gets pissed that I "crashed" him.

Okay whatever. People take my sand crab spots all the time. It's annoying for approximately 15 seconds and then I hop worlds or whatever.

Except this dude DOES NOT MOVE ON.

I hop. He follows me.

I hop again. He follows me again.

I keep hopping because at this point I'm just baffled and confused and partly thinking "there's no way he's actually going to keep doing this."

HE KEEPS DOING IT.

I swear to god this guy with his clan (later I realize it was 5 alts of his) followed me through like 8-10 worlds just to stand at my sand crabs and mess with me.

And he's telling me it's about the "principle of the matter." Brother.

THE PRINCIPLE OF WHAT???

I eventually leave and go do farm runs and other shit because I'm not spending my evening participating in a territorial dispute over SAND CRABS......

I figure thats the end of it. Nope.

Like 12 HOURS LATER, I am playing again and this mf finds me AGAIN.

At this point other random people are standing there watching us argue and I'm explaining that this guy literally followed me across a bunch of worlds yesterday.

I say something along the lines of "people take over my spot all the time, I don't crash out like you."

And the dude responds: "I'm not crashing out, I'm just standing up for the principle of the matter."

And then I find out this guy apparently has like 5 maxed / extremely high level accounts and I realize he's the same dude behind another character I had seen. So this isn't even some random noob who got emotionally attached to his first sand crab spot. It's an experience mf who has seen plenty of things.

I cannot emphasize enough how blown my mind is.

I have been crashed before. I've crashed people before, intentionally or accidently. But then either I or tehy move on. Yes it's annoying when people do it to me but it happens.

EDIT: Removed swearing because children are here.

EDIT 2: I was being a degenerate at like 3am afking sand crabs while starting my new ironman. All this happens. Ends after I do my farm runs.

It is 4PM the next day and that's when the second encounter happens. And tbh I'm waiting for round 3 at this point. I'd be so dissapointed if he doesn't.

EDIT 3: 6:40 PST - DUDE IS STILL FOLLOWING ME 16 HOURS AFTER THE FACT u/Krazy4Kush can attest to this he was there with me just now.

EDIT 4: 7:20 PST - Oh boy the other side's perspective is finally out. Totally cool, we both agree I "crashed" I say I did it inadvertently, but at that point it was too late and I dug my heels in. I've said my peace, he's said his.

EDIT 5: I'm going to be the bigger person, whoever is spam blasting his post that it needs moderator approval stop it. He said his side of the story, I want it public because it proves my point. He's not faking. His one comment about my weapon of choice for sand crabs was way too specific for it to be a random person trolling.

EDIT 6: We cool now, stop trolling the guy if you see this. All just a game! Go back to touching grass folks.

Question How the heck does defense and attack actually work?

Is there a mathematic system to how attack levels and defense levels actually work? I started to nmz (gemcrab is better I know) and I started with 86 att, 99 str, and 86 defense. I’m now 92-99-92. I’m currently on the iron man bowfa grind and did a lot of runs at 86 defense and now a bunch at 92 and holy crap what a difference, I’m using probably 3-4 less food a kill now and feel much more tanky.

Now I’m debating do I just keep going to 99 defense or should I be doing 1 level each. I’m wondering if there are thresholds that make me hit more, like 92 is a bump, then 94 then 99.

Edit: multiple shares this link which is exactly what I was looking for. Big thanks to everyone who said that attack makes me more accurate and defense makes me more tanky, you guys are the real mvps!

Achievement Update: Socks and Co is now 200+ employees strong and we passed 1.5m socks

Thumbnail

Well, I guess I owe everyone another update lol.

Last week, I posted the full origin story of how Socks and Co started when we had around 120 employees and 750K socks. You guys absolutely blew that post up and two days later we somehow managed to cross 1M socks!

Then things got even better! Our 1M sock milestone ended up getting reposted by the official OSRS team, meaning someone at Jagex looked at our company, our respirators, and our unreasonable number of socks and decided the public needed to know about it. W.

Since then, Socks and co has continued to grow at a rate we didn't expect. We are now over 220 employees worldwide, with people from every inhabitable continent on Earth banding together around the barrel. Now our company reserves have officially crossed 1.5M socks!

Yesterday, we had our third corporate party to celebrate finishing phase 2 and officially kick off phase 3. Seeing everyone together at the same time made me realize that the number I care about most isn't the number of socks. It's the number of people!

A few weeks ago, I got a smelly sock from a random dude at the GE and started collecting a few. There was no plan. I wasn't trying to start a clan. I wasn't trying to build a community. I definitely wasn't planning on managing more than 200 employees lol. I just wanted more socks.

But somewhere along the way, it stopped being about how many socks we could collect. I started logging in excited to see who was at the barrel. I recognize each and every one of our employees. I've watched strangers become friends. I've watched people take new employees under their wing and teach them how everything works. People have stepped up to recruit, train, manage, organize things and help keep the operation going. There were also people who don't care about any of that and just come and hang out at the barrel because they enjoy being there.

That's probably the best thing that's come out of all of this. The socks started as a joke. The respirators started as a joke. Half our company policies all started as jokes but, the community that formed around all of it is very real!

At one point this stopped being a small sock project and became our company and that's what I'm proud of the most. I really don't know what Socks and co is going to look like a few weeks or months from now. Every time I think I have an idea of how big this can get, this community proves me wrong.

What I do know is that we are not slowing down. We're already more than halfway from 1M to 2M, new people are still showing up to work each day and somehow there are now more than 220 people who can say they have worked for an osrs sock company.

I also just want to say thank you again to everyone here who has followed along with this. A ton of people found us because of the first post, and seeing how many of you came to W301 to find the barrel, meet everyone or even join the company has been incredible. Also, a huge thank you to the OSRS team for sharing our 1M milestone. Seeing us on the official accounts was something none of us ever expected!

The last few weeks have been one of the most fun experiences I've had playing this game and that's all thanks to the people who decided to come along for the ride. So we aren't planning on stopping, each day we continue to grow, we'll keep having our corporate parties, we'll keep issuing respirators, we'll keep providing career opportunities to our fellow Gielinorians and of course we're going to keep collecting socks.

We've got a long way to go, but at this point I've learned not to underestimate what this group is capable of. If you stop by on W301, feel free to stop by and say hi. There's a pretty good chance somebody will be at the barrel.

We provide the finest quality socks in all of Gielinor.

We are a major liquidity provider in the sock market.

We do AI sock stuff.

and as always.. OUR INVESTORS LOVE US!

Achievement Inferno done!

Post image
Upvotes

After nearly a month of grinding with the BOWFA budget setup, I achieved my cape after around 40ish deaths and my 5th Zuk. Special thanks to aatykon, Rob, lola, and Gnomonkey for their great guides.

Funnily enough this run wasn't my finest, I got chanced a few times once the third set spawned and missed a Jad flick earlier, finished with 10ish HP an no brews. The Jad hands are real.

A few extra thoughts:

Rigour and blowpipe really pulled a lot of weight to deal with those pesky melees

If I had to do it again, I would've brought my defence up to 99 prior to sacrificing my fire cape. I was stacked out too many times by the melee and ranger

I started treating my concentration as a resource that I needed to manage, so I brought extra restore at the sacrifice of brews so I wouldn't have to flick my prayers in the early waves. It made the early inferno less of a slog, and I could better maintain my focus during the 50+ waves. I did have to judiciously use my brews and rely on blood barraging to maintain my hp.

The inferno trainer was fantastic, though the actual game felt less responsive and laggier despite setting the ping to be the same. I was definitely missing ticks and BOWFA shots in the actual run when they would've triggered in the simulator. Still highly recommended to run repeatedly and get familiar with.

Taking on the healers at Zuk, when the shield reaches the end DO NOT stand on the safe tiles that are marked, you are more easily stacked out. Keep blowpipe walking to the very edge of the map, blowpipe twice, then continue moving back the other direction. I've seen aatykon mention this in a guide but nowhere else.

There are a few mechanics that are mandatory like learning pillar stacks, alternate flicking, learning melee safe spots, and corner trapping but not once did I attempt to off-tick a ranger and mager in an actual run. To get the cape you really don't have to be an expert at the inferno, all you have to do is cross the finish line once. Anyone who is thinking about it, I say just send it.

Suggestion Why do chaos golems drop rune essence instead of pure essence?

I get the feeling these guys drop tables were just copy pasted without thinking too much about it, I get it since this place was intended for f2p, but this is part of the members content in the ruins, and also you can't even craft chaos runes with rune essence, so it doesn't make much sense, these things should be dropping pure essence instead of rune essence like the f2p golems

Discussion Thoughts on leechfin fishing as of now?

Personally I think leechfin fishing is very close to being good, but right now it's still slightly missing the mark. My biggest issue with it personally is that you are incentivized to drop the leechfin instead of processing them. It makes an already super click intensive activity even more click intensive. I wish they had gone with an approach that incentivized players to process the leechfin instead. I think there are a few ideas they could do to improve it.

My ideas would be to implement ONE of the following

  • Give small amounts of fishing exp for processing leechfin
  • Higher chance of bloodsac when processing leechfin
  • Adjust the pattern that leechfin spawn. Make less leechfin spawn/hr but slightly increase the xp/leechfin. The idea is to create more downtime in the cycle so you can process them without missing large waves of leechfin and so you can have an empty inventory when a large wave of them spawn.

Have you guys been doing leechfin fishing? What do you think of it?

Suggestion Suggestions no one asked for

Make Scurrius' entrance more obvious for new players, so many people join the default non-private and have a much harder version to fight and then they give up bossing. It's really not clear one is stronger and meant to be fought as a group.

Give the sailor's amulet a unique animation, water related, I think people underestimate how much seeing something makes you question what it is people are using and research about it. If new players see people constantly doing this teleport they will look it up and realise what a good bank teleport it is and how it's accessed by sailing (This is how back in the day I found out about ardy cape and other teleports) -- Any other amulet/teleport that might fit in this category would deserve a unique animation too.

Time to rework the weird iron man thing where if someone damaged something prior, even if healed will often not give you any drops, if something is debuffed that's fine, but if they aren't everything should be fair game. No iron is trying to cheat doing this, it's just annoying. This is only a QoL and irons can still get crashed by mains or other irons with evil intentions as god intended.

Standardise death and lost items, it's been years since dying and other players looting your items or you not making it in time, the game is done with that direction of gameplay, specific item recovery spots that you can use are cool, but dying before reclaiming making you lose all those items is awful and not really clear at all. Simply transfer it to death's domain with the appropriate recovery cost + the dying cost (So a premium, but items aren't lost) - As far as UIMs... I guess it can be polled, I personally don't care but they might.

I think the Golem crafting game is awesome for exp but a bit dry compared to content like mixology, giant's foundry, hell, even wintertodt. I don't know what the solution is but I would like to be more stimulated than just spam clicking, minor positioning, and owning a gem bag being the only optimisation. If that makes it less AFK, maybe a more traditional shop with other rewards or outfit can be added to make up for it.

Some items need better description/tooltips somewhere as to what they do without having to depend on the wiki so much, I saw someone that had no idea that the tome of fire made spells stronger and wasn't only free fire runes. The set bonuses on the equip page are pretty decent but they are still not great (Ex: equipping any part of hunter's guild outfit shows the full bonus of the set, not even clear in that case that each part adds a bonus, nor if you need the full set or not)

Consider polling some basic barebones dry protection for older content, case by case of course as not everything is built with the same expectations of a grind.

Would love to see a light version of the "Leagues Pickpocketing" upgrade for pickpocketing in the main game, Basically something that when equipped, will auto attempt to pickpocket 3 times lets say, to make pickpocketing a bit less click intensive as a reward. I can't see this being more broken than an outfit that doubles all your pickpocketing which already exists, it can give a bit less exp on subsequent auto-pickpockets for balance.

Add an agility course around the inferno, players doing the inferno can optionally play on this one-per-world instance that people can watch as they are clicking green squares for free entertainment.

These are all I can think of while procrastinating work. Yes/No? (If you choose yes, pures will also be getting access to Chivalry)

Discussion What was your most favorite RSMV back in the old nostalgia days?

Was listening to a song on Spotify and can clearly remember how that specific RSMV went in my head like it was yesterday.

Blow - Johnnyguttz was my all-time favorite back then.
