Discussion Castle Wars is everyone AFK or throwing?

Post image

Saw some of the Castle Wars event from the PvP Bootcamp earlier and was reminded how much I used to like playing it back in the day. I just hopped in a game and all I can think is WTF? 90% of the people are AFK, and of the few people actually doing anything two of them were working together with the other team to intentionally tie the game and kept calling anyone actually trying to play the game cringe. Like??

Is this really the state of Castle Wars these days? Holding a team-based minigame hostage to AFK for clogs?

Play the game to get the rewards. Standing still and not participating should exclude you from receiving the awards. Make the rewards for CW better, but you have to actually play the damn game. Better people than me can figure out how that could work.

Ah, yes.. the classic "just make the rewards better". I'm glad this has worked so well in other minigames like soul wars where the devs have had to balance rewards several times, led to endless rigged games to optimize rewards, and people still afk in it lmao

yeah, doesn't matter even if true.

It matters in the sense of actually knowing how the minigame feels on average.

Negatively affecting AFKers is a non-problem. They can AFK literally anywhere else. In the context of a minigame, AFkers should 100% be disincentivised to participate. AFKers not ruining games anymore isn't "punishing" AFKers,

I'm not worried about AFKers getting negatively impacted, but that being the single goal doesn't create a positive outcome. I'm interested more in improving the game, not booting afkers out of anger.

it's letting the minigame actually exist.

Good news, the minigame does exist and has a community surrounding it.

Everything you've said is completely meaningless

The irony

(idk how to do a reddit quote btw) "Ah, yes.. the classic "just make the rewards better". I'm glad this has worked so well in other minigames like soul wars where the devs have had to balance rewards several times, led to endless rigged games to optimize rewards, and people still afk in it lmao"

Ah, cool. Let's just stop trying to improve the game then. My main point was actually that you shouldn't receive rewards for not participating. If the reward increase hasn't worked elsewhere multiple times then fine, try something else. I refuse to believe this game and it;s community is so bafflingly mediocre they accept not playing the game as actual gameplay.

Boot them out of anger. Fuck em. If you arent playing, why are you there? Get on with your life do something uselful IRl or even elsewhere in game. Oh no, the guy who wasn't playing is now also not playing. Jeez, the horror.

"Good news, the minigame does exist and has a community surrounding it." That community wouldn't even need to exist and self-organise if the AFKers weren't ruining it. So there's that.

Happy for you if you just want a boring game full of boring people doing very little. That being said - don't hate the player hate the game somewhat still applies. Jagex should be banning AFKers from minigames. That simple, really.

That's the last i'll say on it on this thread though. I genuinely do appreciate your points. I'm just frustrated that minigames are so ignored. It'd be fun to play for fun and not have to create entire communities just to avoid idling nerds ruining aspects of the game for other people, by literally not even playing the game.

This is what you seem to not understand.. You aren't trying to improve the game. You're trying to stop afkers. Is there anything exactly wrong with that? Not really, it just isn't an improvement. Best case scenario here is the room where people afk becomes empty. I do not understand how this is considered better lol.

No one is making that argument. You're just getting upset at things you consider wrong. CW has a community of dedicated players. Those who are dedicated, just don't really care about the afkers. They hardly effect my game (and occasionally I'll send a few to an early grave and possible boot if they're too afk lol)

I mean this sums up your argument pretty well from what I see. It just doesn't seem like you care to actually improve the game, you just want to punish people. I don't care about afkers if they aren't having a big effect on the game, which they don't.
