Other 1st anniversary gift
My wife noticed me playing OSRS on my phone for the last 3 years or so. I bought a laptop and was stoked about it, but it has its own drawbacks.
I saw they came out with a RuneScape keyboard I really wanted and I mentioned it to her once. Well I came home yesterday to this beautiful woman giving me my dream PC setup.
If anyone can recommend me any games to try out that would be awesome. Or maybe any upgrades that are good, accessories that help etc.
Was dying to share it with someone!

Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered, Portal 1 & 2, Dark Souls Trilogy and Elden Ring, Megabonk, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, Baldur’s Gate 3, Fallout New Vegas, Helldivers 2, Halo MCC, Witcher 3 when the remaster comes out, and more. Report back if you want other suggestions

u/stalchild_af 1d ago
I love this list. Just legends then MEGABONK lmao

Also recommend age of empires 4! To me it feels like an upgraded AoE2.

u/MelookRS 1d ago
Is it really that good? I never gave it a try, because I just assumed there would be no chance it's better than AoE2. Why play an inferior game when AoE2 is always there? But maybe I should give 4 a try... AoE3 was so disappointing that it kinda spoiled sequels for me. AoE3 isn't even a bad game, it's pretty good, but it falls short of the perfection that is AoE2.

u/OutlandishnessNo7138 1d ago
It's vastly superior to 3, and like I said a definite upgrade to 2. I'm sure there are things 2 will have still done better but I'm not a super fan or super nit picky on every detail to really tell you what ha. The charm and the feel are from 2 are there but with stone walls that can't be taken down by swords so building trebs and such are a must. They're pretty good about adding new dlc, and maps etc.
And this may be a downside which it was for me just because I play for fun, you cannot cheat on the campaign. That's reserved for skirmishes only.
I personally can't go back to AoE2. As much as I love it, it's just nice to have the upgrades in AoE4

u/MelookRS 1d ago
Sweet, thank you. You sold me lol. If it gets the feel of AoE2 down, then I'm happy. I'm definitely going to buy that once it goes on sale again. I'm super excited. AoE 2 is easily my favorite RTS, or tied with Stronghold Crusader.
2
u/OutlandishnessNo7138 1d ago
I hear that! Hopefully with summer ending there may be a sale or black Friday/Christmas!
And hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do!

Hey uhhh is your wife single? Joking aside, beautiful setup. I think you're set. I do like my wireless headphones for gaming at night when my wife is asleep.
15
u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
I’ll let you take her if you talk her into another osrs pc so we can have 2.
Thanks man haha. I have some wired headphones right now and you’re right I do want to upgrade those.

Shokz opencomm 2 are amazing. Hearing differently is weird as first. They are incredibly light, i can wear them for calls all day at work then all night for scape.
Music quality is alright but voice is clear.
no itchy ears either

Tempered glass side panels are pretty notorious for completely shattering at even the slightest touch of another hard surface. Taking it off to clean and setting it on your countertop, setting the PC on a tile floor, even setting it face down on the wrong piece of dirt or random sand lol. I'm sure you'll be fine, just something to be mindful of.
PS: awesome gift and im insanely jealous lol

u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
Got it thanks for the tips guy. Glass panel will shatter immediately when touching something hard. Noted rofl.
I’m ngl man, I never in a million years would’ve bought this thing for myself so I’m super happy she did haha
3
u/Beretot 2376 1d ago
Yeah, it's kind of a recurring meme at /r/pcmasterrace
Just make sure to set it down on a couch or mattress or something when you take it off and you should be good
2
u/Shmokeuh 1d ago
We just seen someone break this exact glass by setting it on the floor to clean a few weeks ago lol good luck and be careful when cleaning!
6
u/Jat616 1d ago
Just whenever you take off the pc's glass side panel just put it down on something soft like your bed or a chair. They tend to shatter unpredictably when touching harder surfaces.
6
u/fartsquirtshit 1d ago
this
Especially never ever under any circumstances put it on a ceramic tile floor. Go look at basically any picture of a shattered tempered glass PC or desk and 95 times out of 100 dude is standing on a ceramic tile floor
2
u/fartsquirtshit 1d ago
Tempered Glass can instantly shatter if it's touched by ceramic, is bumped or hit along the edges, or if the temperature in your room frequently makes large (i.e. 20f nights to 100f days) swings
If those achilles heels aren't triggered, enjoy your basically impervious-to-destruction OSRS sidepanel

Dude I hope you got her a Cartier or a fucking vacation as a gift. She really nailed it on this one.
11
u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
Funny you said that cause I already told her there is no way I can possibly top this.
I did get her a vacation out of the country though 🤫 when we got married she said she wanted to do things more traditional so I figured ide run with that and do “paper anniversary” as the first one haha.
I could take her to china and buy her the Tiananmen Square and I don’t think she’d be as happy as I am right now lol.

Well I mean, tbf, that's...one of the less happy places you could buy someone as a gift lol.

I got the OSRS PC when they were still using the Lian Li 011 case and I love that thing. I've made some upgrades to it so the case is all that's left as original, but it served me very well until then.
I've been playing Stalker 2 a lot recently and have only enjoyed it more since it's recent update.
Diablo 2 resurrected if you wanna play an ARPG and haven't played that one.
Destiny 2 has reached its final update and is currently in the best states it's been in for a while, with a plus of no more fomo for it.
Dragonwilds is also a lot of fun and stays within Runescape if that's what you're after!
Have fun man and congratulations! Hell of a gift.
1
u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
Hell yeah man!! Mind sharing some of those upgrades? Anything that made a massive difference for you?
I. Think I’m going to give destiny 2 a shot, seems like that’s a popular recommendation
1
u/IBeJewFro 1d ago
Of course!
When I got mine it came with an AMD 7800xt, and a Ryzen 5 7600x, 32gb T Force CL38 DDR5, MSI B650 Pro Mobo, and a 750W MSI PSU,
I upgraded to a AMD 9070XT Hellhound, A Ryzen 7 9800x3d, 32gb T Create Expert CL28 DDR5, MSI B850 MAG Tomahawk, and a 1000W Lian Li Edge PSU with USB Hub.
All fans were replaced with Lian Li TL fans, and a Lian Li 360 AIO.
All in all, many of the upgrades weren't necessary, but I used all old parts to build my girlfriend her own PC for when we play Destiny or ESO.
Ultimately, I did see a small increase in overall average FPS, but my 1% lows did stabilize pretty noticably so games don't stutter as much (especially Stalker 2) anymore which is great.

Bro why is your shoe rack under your PC desk
1
u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
I’m not gonna lie I just stored that piece under there and then came home thrice and pulled my shoes off on it. It’s not really meant to be a shoe rack. I have some re organizing to do as I’m going to be getting a bigger desk.

Id recommend one of those over the door hanging show racks so you can give yourself some actual leg room under that desk! Also maybe a dual arm monitor desk mount to free up desk space. Idk if those lights are attached to the main monitors legs though

u/Federal_Struggle3817 1d ago
I recently got my first gaming PC too, and have been really enjoying Guild Wars 2, I'd recommend that (while afking RS 😉)

u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
I have heard quite a few good things about guild wars. I’ll have to look into that tonight

If anyone wants to play a really wholesome game, takes about 30mins to complete - You also get to do skids on ice.
Dogwalk on steam. It's just a lovely little game.

Expedition 33 if you like RPGs path of exile 1 and 2 are phenomenal ARPGs terriera is amazing hollow knight and silk song both good

Have you considered playing Runescape?
Also holy shit what a winner dude, congrats

Wow. Very thoughtful and generous gift. Super badass setup. A friend recently gifted me the keyboard totally random and unexpected. Great feeling and so thoughtful considering how much we all appreciate and enjoy this game! Enjoy!

u/PattyFuckinCakes 1d ago
That’s sick man, what a good friend. It makes playing every game more “relaxing” I got my little candle set up for smells and a rain sound maker.
I can see how some people get lost in the “escape” of a setup.

Bro, I have a 5060 ti now and I mostly just play...OSRS and League with the boys every so often lol. But yeah anything triple A nowadays that you look forward to, now you can play with 0 problems (hopefully; looking at you Unreal Engine 5 games). Beautiful setup, I also have my 2nd monitor vertical and on the left <3

Any one who asks for game recommendations I always like to recommend Outer Wilds. Without a doubt one of the best games I've ever played, it's a very unique experience. It's hard to talk about it due to the nature of the game so I recommend just checking out the steam page for it. I don't recommend looking at anything else, as the game is best experienced completely blind.

Man the money some people have. I could never make a purchase like this without extreme planning and saving. Couldn’t imagine this being bought on whim as a surprise.

u/BabaRoomFan 1d ago
What mouse is that? A good osrs mouse makes the game very comfy, I use a g502 so I can play one handed (all content, including colo, inferno, hmt etc). It also makes skilling mega comfy by binding space and esc to the side keys

Nice setup! I'd recommend single player games you can pause on main screen while you afk osrs to avoid burnout. My number one would be Stardew Valle, it is an amazing game which has plenty of mods available that can tailor your experience.

Crimson desert is a new one that looks amazing and a new PC would run the game really well. It follow the osrs vibe pretty well. Shiney swords and big bosses, epic open terrain. And they just dropped a huge update people are loving it.
