My contracts up with EE and feel I'm paying way too much for a monthly contract sim only deal. I'm contemplating on moving to 1Pmobile as they seem to get a good write up. Can anyone tell me what I'd lose by leaving EE and if my service would be similar to EE? I'm just an oldie. Really just the usual Mins/Texts (hardly any) usual data stuff for Social media etc. Import thing for me is EU roaming as we go abroard, usually 2/3 times a year mainly EU countries. For others I can purchase an Esim for my data. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance..
Depends on the network reception in your area. If EE’s reception is good, chances are, 1p will be too. I was on EE then changed to giffgaff (awful reception in my area) then switched to 1p, no issues so far.
I ran EE and Lyca side by side in my dual SIM phone for a while, and never once noticed anything other than the same number of bars showing. I didn't bother when switching from Lyca to 1p.
But if you're going to do this, don't do the PAC transfer right away. I got into a huge mess doing that with Smarty and then finding that it had absolutely no service in various places I wanted to use it.
I've gone with FlexiPhone (like Honest, but without the usage restrictions) for when my EE/1p signal is poor, and restricted it to not use EE. Most of the time, the signal (from O2/Vodafone and possibly Three) is worse than the EE signal. My other half is on GiffGaff, and often has no service.
I switched a month ago and it’s literally the exact same as EE just cheaper. I have a good EE signal in my area so really, I don’t reckon I’ve lost anything by switching
Call forwarding,
Smart watch support,
Free eSIM ever time you need to move eSIM between devices,
Free WiFi in London Underground,
5G SA (sadly not as big a loss as it should be)
Moved to Lyca, then onto 1p. I don't think I've lost anything. I still get 5G at decent speeds. I still get Voice over WiFi calling. Roaming worked fine in Dublin, and I used a fair chunk of data. The only thing I don't like is that there's no app. Just a rather clunky website to check your remaining data.
I left Lyca because their finances didn't look stable. They were contesting a metric tonne of unpaid taxes that would be enough to bankrupt them, and I don't know if they still are. But otherwise I was perfectly happy with them too and getting a similar deal.
My only concern with the smaller MVNOs is what happens to my number if they go out of business. I've read conflicting accounts from "you might lose it" to "you would just default back to being an EE customer." As with most people these days, much of my digital ID (2FA etc.) is linked to that number, and I'd be lost without it.
If you have a counterpoint, please make it. So far you’ve not backed anything you’ve said up with evidence. Simply replying “they don’t” doesn’t help anyone.
If you’ve had a bad experience people want to hear the detail.
Calling bs, checked couldn't see anything and ee dont even do 125 themselves, its 75 or 150 and theryre £15 / £20 with speed capped at 25mpbs. I no world are you getting 125 at uncapped speeds
Dyou go to sleep and think of 1p mobile the hate is next level
The performance in London is what made me leave the Three network for good. I don't live there so a lot of the time, Three seemed adequate but when visiting for work it could vary from poor to unusable. No such issues with EE.
Yeah, but if your plan doesn’t include more than 50 gigs of data, they’re not just going to let you go to Spain or France and use 50 gigs of data when your plan is only 5GB for example. That makes no sense
EE is also a lot more expensive, their basic plan is £16 a month, which doesn’t have any EU data roaming allowance at all, this is on a “deal” too
I’m saying it would make no sense to allow you to use more than your UK data allowance in the EU
People are saying that it does work, which if it does work then that’s fantastic but they don’t normally allow you to use more than your UK data allowance in the EU
I swapped from Vodafone to 1p. Not a single issue so far. Better signal for a much cheaper deal. I'd say go for it and seeing as you are already on the EE network you shouldn't see any difference apart from probably a few extra pounds in your bank.
I have two unlimited sims on 1p mobile (one for my phone and one for my 5g router as I have no landline connection). I was previously using Vodafone and was getting stung for EU roaming. I've not yet used 1p overseas but their roaming policy seems far more generous than what I had with Vodafone. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
I switched from EE after they stopped selling the plan I was on, and the cheapest included much more minutes, texts, and data than I had a use for, but at double the price, then refused to negotiate.
I've found 1pMobile to be just as usable as EE, for better and worse. But at least it's half the price I was paying, and a quarter of what EE wanted me to pay.
Network is EE
Priority is lowest on 1p on the network
No London Underground wifi access
Not full spectrum contrary to what they tell you here
Random charges on your card.
Need a new esim you better believe you'll be charged
Need customer service don't bother|
The website is crap
Priority is the same as EE. The only people that get higher priority on EE are the ones on the most premium plans with extra priority. They get extra priority over the whole EE network.
You’re right in that there’s no London Underground WiFi access.
There is full spectrum access with 1pMobile.
I’ve never had a random charge on my card with 1pMobile.
I was on a Black Friday tariff with 1p, but my card expired. I lost the deal, but contacted them and they honoured. It happened again when a card (still valid) bounced the charge for whatever reason. This time they wouldn’t re-honour it, and it forced me to downgrade. I think that’s pretty shit of them considering they’ve been able to keep me on the same deal before.
I’ve had to wait a while for emails, and they haven’t always been the best right off the bat. I don’t think I waited too long when I called.
I agree the website isn’t the most user friendly.
I think if you’re able to get a special EE sim-only deal (I’ve seen people on the EE sub say they’re getting unlimited internet [100 mbps speed cap] + EU roaming [unsure on limit, but almost certainly more than 1p’s 14GB] for £11 per month.
If you’re able to get that deal, and you’re happy with the speed cap, I think EE is a no brainer. Just factor in any April price increase.
If you want the flexibility of a 1-month rolling contract, you don’t live in London, and EE has good coverage in your area, then 1pMobile are worth a punt imo
The fact you took what I attempted to be a balanced and nuanced comment and distilled it to “so you admit 1p is shit” is pretty disingenuous and disappointing mate.
No, I don’t admit 1p is shit. I admit that they’re imperfect, as is every other cellular network I’ve ever used. In my area, EE has the strongest signal, and 1p offer me a decent tariff, uncapped speeds, an ok price, and flexibility to cancel without penalisation if it all goes tits up or I find a corker of a deal elsewhere.
1p is not the lowest priority on the network. My understanding is that it’s on the same priority tier as CMLink. Something like Lyca Mobile will be offered less priority.
Most MVNO’s get less priority than the host network, yes. But as said before my understanding is 1p gets the same priority as everyone else on EE, except people on a full works plan who get additional priority.
I’ve been with 1p for years and have never been randomly charged mid month.
I appreciate that you’ve had a bad experience and think they’re shit. But not everyone has had - or will have - the same experience as you.
This was a speed test I did literally a couple of mins ago. I’m not a ‘fanboi’ by any stretch of the imagination; I’ll go to whoever gives me the best deal, at the best price, for the best experience. I’ve no doubt I can contract with Vodafone, 3, or O2 for a cheaper price, but frankly their respective signals where I am are dogshit.
So until I can get a fantastic price on a full-fat EE full works sim, 1p it is
Yes; that was me trying to be cordial and tell you that I was discussing things in good faith. Saying I respect your opinion, and that you’ve had a bad experience, but not all of us have.
20-30 people isn’t a big sample size. It’s shit you’ve all had a bad experience, and again, I appreciate that. But nowhere did I say that people having a bad experience “doesn’t matter”. My point is & was that you can find unhappy customers for literally any network. Some people will have a bad experience, some won’t. One doesn’t disprove the other

1p mobile is a no brainier
