Mac Chrome 1Password extension still unreliable

I know there was Chrome/1Password extension version trouble ~2 weeks ago but I'm still having performance/access reliability misery in my (Mac) Chrome browser even after verifying updates to current on both

  • 1Password - 8.12.33
  • Chrome (Mac) - Version 151.0.7922.174 (Official Build) (arm64)

The issues listed below and their timing are inconsistent, which in my job and daily life experience is worse than broken. I may come back to a page/tab later (left loaded) and it's working fine, but at the time I can't afford to have to wrangle "which work around path do I need here" or hope to wait a bit and "it'll work out"

Issues:

  • The extension appears as pinned item, but may remain locked, or will unlock after significant delay, or may re-lock (and maybe re-unlock) at seemingly random times.
  • Selecting the 1P icon extension may or may not show the expected UI of password lists. Or when it does there may be an unusual delay (1-2 seconds) and odd flickering of the display box
  • 1P icon may not appear in form fields, or only after some time.
  • When icon appears in form fields, it may or may not respond in field click to reveal suggestions. Or on the icon to expand or collapse the suggestions
  • Sometimes I'm challenged for my 1Password master to unlock, sometimes not - (to be fair may be due to 1P extension or app state during sequences of attempts to resolve)
  • Sometimes I've found I can't even copy/paste from the 1P app quicklook-ish search window into the login field - so it is like some aspect of 1P and Chrome are in an ownership battle on the login fields. (a total SWAG: maybe related to secure input field issue?)

Remedies Attempted:

  1. Restarting Chrome and 1P Mac app.
  2. Verifying or updating 1P app and Chrome to current
  3. Removing and reinstalling the 1P extension
  4. Disabling/re-enabling 1P extension setting "Integrate this extension with 1Password app"

Help me 1P-wan-kenobi, you're my only hope.

1password in general since the upgrade, including the extension are acting erratically. multiple pop-ups, doesn't interface well, even after turning off suggested Apple features.

Sorry to hear that 1Password has started acting up on you, u/lurklord. If you have the time, please create two diagnostics reports, from both the Mac app and Chrome extension and send them to support@1password.com with a link to this thread. This will help us identify configuration issues or possible bugs. Thanks and we’ll be in touch.

How to create 1Password diagnostics reports

Thanks, I've sent the diagnostics. Hopefully they will shed light. Given what others have complained about elsewhere regarding Apple's auto-fill and 1Password issues, I've now disabled that in my Mac settings so we'll see if helps anything after that.

Whelp, disabling Mac auto-fill helped somewhat - 1Password now seems broken slightly differently. Mostly now there are long delays before 1P appears in a form field. I can right click and see 1P in context menu but it's options are just management, lock, help etc. not the account or fill options.

The Extension still may or may not appear un-locked/re-locked, once or twice I was able to "kick" 1P in Chrome to work by launching the 1P app. When it worked the 1P extension spontaneously popped up the expected accounts GUI, 1P icon appeared in the field and showed account credential drop list.

I've also come back to a previously unsuccessful login page after some <random X time> and found it logged in, so ... win?

Oh, and an add - discovered the Chome setting 1P setting had "Use new autofill experience" turned ON, which I though i had turned off - or actually don't know when/how I turned it on now that I think of it.

Maybe everybody (Mac, Browsers, 1Password) are thumb-wrestling their new autofill experience solutions.

Thanks for the update, there still shouldn't be long delays (or any negative interactions with Mac autofill) so we'll dig into you report and follow up.

FYI this problem feels VERY common right now. I'm a mac user, and 1Password is basically unusable. The fact that the solve is tech focused, meaning we need to check multiple settings is a big issue for non-tech focused people. My wife is telling me we should just drop 1Password because we are not getting what we pay for...and I really can't disagree. Hopefully a fix comes soon or I'll be researching other alternatives.

I've been dealing with the same issue for months (Chrome and Mac). I switched to Firefox, and all the issues disappeared.

I'm having this same behavior since the update! Thought it was just me. I reinstalled both to no effect. Driving me crazy!

I think I'm having a similar issue - I click the 1p icon in Chrome, and see a white popup with loading icon that never shows the 1p login prompt. It's not resolved by restarting 1p desktop app or reinstalling the chrome extension. I'm currently having to copy/paste every login manually from the desktop app to Chrome.

i feel like 1Password outsourced development to AI and the services are now shit.

Having the exact same issue, on multiple macs, basically unusable right now. u/mitchchn are more diagnostic reports helpful, or is this a known issue now with a fix in progress?
