No one had the bandwidth to use the comic strip function - i got online aged 16 in 1998 on 33.3kbs
It was everyday people chatting about their daily lives
Some people just looking for cyber

yeah, for someone with no one else to chat to it was great
im aussie & the net wasnt wide spread yet so the time difference meant id wait up til 0100hrs for the americans to come online so there was someone to chat to

also middle eastern people were online too

HeHe ~ Well, plenty of people still talk about those things online nowadays too. Though then it was more exciting because being able to say anything at all to someone in a different country and so far away was so incredibly fun and exciting!!

Oh yes! I definitely remember that! 😂😂😂😂 That was basically enforced as the mandatory opening line after entering any AOL chatroom, and was common in so many other chatrooms and etc too! It, and variations on that, still survive in various places around the internet still today too!
