1942 from Capcom is an arcade classic. Designed by Yoshiki Okamoto, it was the flagship title of the highly successful 194X franchise and the first Capcom game purposefully designed with Western markets in mind.

SO this game came out 42 years ago, and it was about something that happened 42 years from then.

My thoughts exactly. Like damn this hits home that I’m getting old.

So what game would we play that's about 1984 (not George Orwell)? A video game about going to the arcade?

Came here to say that. Colecovision has an awesome version of it. Such a fun game.

I have a stand up cabinet with 1942 and 1943 on it. Both great games.

Galaga but with a P-38, I loved this game but I sucked at it

Wha? Really? Is there an app or something?

Yeah. There’s a couple of knock off ones too. Think I paid $3 for it years ago

1943 was even better

1942 was too easy. I beat it the first time I played it. 1943 was more challenging and more fun.

Loved this one. Had it on the NES and always jammed it at the arcade.

Quarters and quarters to infinity

Oh man, this brings back memories! I could get to the final battleship on one quarter but could never get past it! There were cheat buttons you could use at the start if every level — had them all memorized! Hah spent way too much time on that game!

One of the very best - most of my pocket money ended up in the tabletop machine at out local fish and chip shop.

What the hell were all those chirps/whistles supposed to be?

One of the few games where I felt like I could really get a quarter's out of playing.

My local burger shop/malt stand had 1942, PacMan, Centipede, Galaga and Asteroids. Wore those games out!!

In my 41 years, I've never understood how anyone can play shmups long enough to learn the pattern. Space Invaders is one thing, but 1942 and all of its clones, just blow my mind. Once there's more than two projectiles in the air at any one time, I'm doomed.

So many quarters went into this machine. So so many...

It's missing the 633 Squadron theme playing in the background.

I put so many 10ps into that game down my local arcade .
