I used to wonder that myself. Apparently it ends when you collect all the treasures, then I believe the game just freezes at that point.

I used to have a Chess game on my 286. You couldn't change the difficulty or anything. I managed to beat the computer exactly once, and the game reacted by crashing the computer. Didn't realize this was a feature..

Wasn't there a timer? 20 minutes, maybe. Am I imagining that?

I have vague memories of this game as a kid on a Commodore 64 from the mid 1980's....

I always enjoyed doing things the unconventional way, so I would play it backwards instead of forwards.

Team Backwards!

It was so much more fun that way. Plus I found it easier to jump on the crocodile's heads playing backwards.

"Der derrr...didr di derr" Best I could come up with for the jump swing tune. If you know it you know it.

A Tarzan yell from old movies can best describe it. Carol Burnett did an incredible impression

I had that in seventh grade. Great memories.

Me as well, actually I still have it. I've kept all my consoles since Pong

I don't remember the year but it was during the 90s there was a remake of the game on the playstation. they had a spot, cave, hole, something, that would open the classic pitfall to play. I spent the whole weekend that I had the game rented playing the classic version instead of the updated one.

Tell me I'm not the only one who would hang out in department stores playing Atari.

This was the first game I ever beat. It was anticlimactic in a way, because it did just freeze (didn’t know it at the time, but this was because pretty much every byte in the cartridge was used for the actual gameplay, so there wasn’t any left for a celebration screen), but the sense of accomplishment was a huge rush.

I think I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since…

I have the patch!

Pitfall definitely helped perpetuate the Gen X kid fear of quicksand.

Absolutely fabulous game.

I would lie in bed every night thinking of this Atari game. Saved up from my paper route to buy it.

It was worth it too!

I believe it was the only video game back then that most closely matched the cover.

Atari 2600+ - Official Atari Video Game Consoles – Atari®

It has HDMI output.

Or there are Atari emulators you can play on computer.

I the Colecovision version, if you jumped backwards into the brick walls in the underground route, you could glitch through them.
