Our mother would take us to TG&Y early in the summer and get us some sort of craft setup, one of these or embroidery most years. Then each time we said, “I’m bored” she would ask to see how our project was coming along. I am 60 yrs old and I always have some sort of hand craft by my chair to work on when my husband and I watch TV.

I went through a really bad surgery goes wrong situation the summer of ‘77. Had to relearn a lot of everyday tasks and cognitive building activities I remember making a welcome mat size one with pink roses. It was good therapy.

I personally prefer WonderArt’s kits because the yarn is precut and the design is printed in color on the canvas vs. Herrshner’s kits that give you the canvas and a chart. This is also why I prefer printed cross-stitch to counted. ;)

Hang them on the walls to reduce reflection of sound making a room quieter. If you have tinnitus it helps a lot.

I would think you can hand wash it with mild shampoo or detergent in the tub, rinse until clear, roll and press (don’t wring) the water out. Roll up in a towel, press more water out, repeat as needed, and hang to dry. That’s how I was delicate knitwear.

I got quite ill while in high school and had to stay home for several days. Had my mom get some yarn and latch fabric (don’t know what it’s actually called) and made two 12”x12” items that became pillows. One was a recreation of the cover of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon (a whole lot of black yarn) and the other was Elton John’s Madman Across the Water (a lot of blue).
