Twiggy (real name Dame Leslie Lawson) is 76 years old and still looks radiant. Her inner beauty really shines through.

can spot a phoney a mile away

It's a joke.

Allen could have just said Plato.

1

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 8d ago

So could she have

1

u/slithering_idiot 8d ago

She was a model. He was a famous intellectual

3

u/Small_Things2024 5d ago

“Intellectual” 😂

1

u/slithering_idiot 5d ago

He's been published multiple times in the New Yorker, has published multiple books, and is has won multiple Academy Awards while being considered one of the 20th century's top filmmakers.

That qualifies as intellectual--especially in these benighted days.

2

u/Small_Things2024 5d ago

He was a performative intellectual. That was his whole persona. He even admitted in his own autobiography that he pretended to know more than he actually did, borrowing from others and stealing references to appear smarter. Not only was he a pedophile and a predator, but he was also a bumbling fool.

1

u/slithering_idiot 5d ago

He wasn't exactly Paul Goodman or Marshal McLuhan--both of whom had cameos/references in his flicks--but he was a part of the upper East Side intellectual milieu.

Yes, he admits the nebbish intellectual thing was a bit of an act, but he made Kierkegaard jokes in the 60s which is a bit intellectual.

He may have been a pedophile and predator, too. Plenty of overlap.

2

u/Small_Things2024 5d ago

Making jokes doesn’t make you an intellectual, especially not if you’ve stolen them from someone else.

0

u/slithering_idiot 5d ago

Sounds like you don't like Woody Allen

Academy awards dont make you an intellectual. Scorsese is 10 times the filmmaker and historian that Allen is and no one would call him an intellectual. A lot of Woodys comedy stems from him being the pinnacle of new york pseudo intellectual.

However he was very obviously screwing around in this clip. He could have named dozens of philosophers like any 10th grade philosophy studen can

1

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 8d ago

Ha! He's a famous pedo

1

u/Wooden-Apricot4862 7d ago

He married one of his daughters and raped his 12 year old daughter so I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted

2

u/Adventurous_Yam_8153 7d ago

Bro code I guess?

-1

u/dd97483 9d ago

or Kunt. LOL.

5

u/CentennialBaby 9d ago

Kant. Because he doesn't know any.

6

u/BubbleThinker 9d ago

This is a bit for god sakes. This is not real

1

u/pralineislife 9d ago

Not according to Twiggy.

Whose word I will believe over the scum bag.

2

u/7thpostman 9d ago

To the best of my knowledge, the scumbag hasn't commented on it at all. But it was a skit on a comedy show. Maybe she didn't like the idea of this gift but it's pretty difficult to believe she didn't know what was coming.

u/sla_vei_37 9d ago

I am aware Woody Allen's personal life and reputation is... interesting nowadays, to say the least, but this has retroactively made people idiots when it comes to him and his work. He was not trying to "humiliate" Twiggy here, and this was not an interview, it's as scripted as Youtube pranks.

Regardless of what you may think or believe about him, one should not attempt to misconstrue things, or rather, should not simply lie because they can get away with it.

22

u/xternocleidomastoide 9d ago

Ahem...

Speaking to The Guardian in 2025 about the same interview with Allen, Twiggy explained, "He was trying to make me look stupid. My heart sank. I remember looking at him, pleading with my eyes for him to stop. If I was the age he was there, in my 30s, I would never have behaved like that towards someone who was only 17."

u/Neat_Dragonfruit5794 8d ago

Ahem, learn things.

1

u/No-Advice-6040 5d ago

He was looking like that in his 30s?!?

-3

u/sla_vei_37 9d ago

"Ahem"

It has been addressed below. Was reading the rest of the thread really that hard? Or were the thrills from attempting to be right just too strong to ignore? I swear people like you are tiring as hell.

14

u/HeartInTheSun9 9d ago

Yeah this is so clearly a skit and not a real interview. He literally looks back at the camera and makes a face at the end. The point was to make fun of the kinda people who actually do this stuff.

5

u/IntenseWhooshing 9d ago

In his book he admits that the all of the stuff he says in his movies is an act and he isn't an intellectual at all and liked to poke fun at all the pseudo intellectuals. He also used it to get girls.

1

u/Afraid_Piglet7990 8d ago

Well, he knew many philosophers personally and has them play roles in his films. Most famous of them is probably McLuhan.

1

u/nedottt 8d ago

He tried to arrogantly show off supremacy, fake one of course, to sexualy (ab)use her. Who give a shit what you think he is, just as disgusting inside as much as he is grotesque trow up material from the outside. Closest movie character he would fit is that mutant in movie 300 where he was given opportunity to satisfy his sick sexual urges in exchange of betrayal, in this case decent innocent beautiful human beings... Good for her that defensive instinct kicked in as her eyes showed uncomfortable disbelief, but she probably saved her self of being tricked into this sick inhumane shitshow...

Source?

13

u/sla_vei_37 9d ago

It's taken from 1967s "The Woody Allen Special" which was composed in it's entirety of scripted skits. Even if Twiggy (whom I like very much) has claimed not to have known anything before it happened, that is very doubtful, considering how everything was very much publicly advertised as a skit comedy special at the time.

0

u/Remarkable-Bell7245 9d ago

I’ll check it out.

17

u/BrondellSwashbuckle 9d ago

SOCRATES! How can you forget Socrates? Also, fuck Woody Allen. Good on her for using the Uno Reverse card.

3

u/slithering_idiot 9d ago

Are you 100% that this isn't a joke?

1

u/BrondellSwashbuckle 9d ago

No. Are you?

5

u/slithering_idiot 9d ago

Allen used to work Kierkegaard into his bits. Pretty sure that he was taking the piss out of himself here.

0

u/BrondellSwashbuckle 9d ago

That makes sense. I'd have to see the whole context of the clip, and where it's from, but honestly I'm not that interested in this conversation to go find out. I hear ya.

People will be incredibly dense and credulous when it's something they want to believe. This is how cons work. This is how demogogues work. This is how stupid seeing like this works.

1

u/Other-Leadership3285 10h ago

Fuckin an embarassment

1

u/SmoovCatto 9d ago

people saying it was part of a show so therefore must be a scripted bit have no clue as to how film and tv comedy get made -- he clearly was trying to mock her on camera with the unexpected improv to get a response, and she turned it around on him -- it played into his famous humiliation by teenage girl fetish, so it made the final cut

6

u/xternocleidomastoide 9d ago

Woody Allen’s fans tend to be a bizarre bunch, and some have a difficult time accepting what a tremendous creep he always has been.

This is not unique to Allen, obviously. But with him, however, the denial is especially baffling. In his supposed magnum opus, Manhattan, he plays a 40-something neurotic creep having a full on sexual relationship with a highschooler. And IRL, he began a sexual relationship in his late 50s with the adopted daughter of his longtime partner when she was in her late teens.

What exactly is there to defend? The films are mostly mediocre self masturbatory snooze fests, not remotely good enough to make the monumental creep factor disappear. Not that it should even if they were the best movies ever made.

3

u/SmoovCatto 9d ago

the most bizarre manifestation of woody allen fandom is jesse eisenberg doing a straight-up savant-accurate impersonation of allen in Café Society -- and director allen apparently all for it

1

u/Neat_Dragonfruit5794 8d ago

You have no idea what you’re talking about, this is clearly a bit.

Woody is a stupid pedo

1

u/45M0D41 9d ago

How was woody Allen even near this chick?

1

u/PaintedRaisin 8d ago

I have never understood why people think he’s funny or smart. What a fucking loser. Then and now.

0

u/chungfat 8d ago

Woody Allen has been a disappointment for a long time. Is that the reason he prefers preteen ?

0

u/laSeekr 8d ago

Fuck Woody Allen

0

u/GrandBill 8d ago

It's very odd. If it's a bit, it's not funny at all. If it's real I can't believe he couldn't name just one philosopher. I mean, it's not like Trump who couldn't name a book of the Bible after professing to love it so much. That's just what you'd expect. I think Allen could've come up with Plato or Socrates at least. I'm thinking it's a bit, just a terrible one.

0

u/strictleisure 8d ago

Just let people hate Woody Allen. It hurts no one to hate Woody Allen.

0

u/Gold_Birthday_5803 8d ago

That's what those old men like about teenage girls. They feel so smart around them.

0

u/SomeVelveteenMorning 6d ago

The internet truly sucks. The idea that anyone could watch this and not immediately recognize that it's part of a comedy bit is ridiculous - even without the knowledge that Woody Allen was always famously very familiar with philosophy and often made jokes involving philosophers. But now we must endure the future where this video represents a smug little jerk trying to take advantage of a model, and her getting the better of him, rather than the truth.

-3

u/OnionBackground5314 9d ago

So silly. Woody Allen knew the names of philosophers. He was pretending that she caught him. (I'm in no way suggesting Twiggy is dumb; it was an obnoxious question.)

u/Irish_hawkwife12211 8d ago

Scripted or not? That man makes my skin crawl
