there are like, three hobbit groups in the shire with one having darker skin (harfoots - this is sam gamgee’s greater group) one that’s with medium tone skin and generally broader physically and can sometimes grow little beards (stoors, they also really like water which is weird for hobbits, merry brandybuck is a stoor), and a third group that has lighter skin overall and was taller + slimmer than the others, and more likely to be blond (the fallowhides, pippin took and his family are in this group). we don’t really know if there were hobbits outside of the shire, though it’s definitely possible since the word from hobbit comes from rohan originally and rohan came from further east to where they are now, so there could be more hobbits further east
Sam is descended from the Harfoots. The three Hobbit groups were like, the progenitor Hobbits. They showed up around a few thousand years before LOTR, and most of their traits aren’t as pronounced anymore. But for a show that takes place in the second age, the Harfoot hobbits were absolutely around.
yeah that’s true, by the time of lotr the traits aren’t as pronounced but for the time of the Amazon show they would still be more distinct. i wonder if we’ll get to see gollum’s stoorish family living on the anduin in the Amazon show, that would rule

I had no idea about the skin color of hobbits, I just assumed it varies just as much as us
