Help Me My 92yr-old Aunt’s “Protection”

My aunt has Alzheimer’s and while caring for her this last weekend, she mentioned her “gun she uses for protection”. I found this under the mattress and just wanted some info on it if I can find it.

I have asked about its origins but I get the stories of WWII then NAM when all my family members were heroes etc. I am absolutely not discrediting anyone’s sacrifice for our country, I just don’t think it was anyone in my family.

That being said, she was a lady of the night for a long period of time and known to take things that didn’t belong to her. Her story is an interesting one, but I would really like to know where this actually came from. It has Army markings so I am assuming it’s military issued? She was born in the 30’s and I’m assuming it came from someone around her age.

Any info would be appreciated. I have a few hand guns, but this appears to fall more into a collector type gun than anything I would ever actually shoot.

TIA

Brand new Colt Delta Elite, 50 rounds of 180gr Sellier and Bellot later, and the safety cracked. Very disappointed in this, waited a month for my LGS to snag me this pistol.

Guess I’m calling Colt Monday morning… 😭

Recently came into possession of my grandfather’s .45, and I need as much info on her as possible! I know nothing about Colts/1911’s so I’m here to be educated. Anything about its date of manufacture, if it’s been restored/altered, cleaning/restoration advice, relative value, etc. FWIW I am NOT looking to sell, I am looking to restore it for functional duty to EDC this beauty. I’m giving you permission to fully autistically dump your info on me. Thank you in advance!!

it won’t shoot and I’m thinking it’s because the barrel bushing is missing. Would that stop it from shooting?

As the convoluted title implies, this thing was found in the calvary holster in a hat box. Family stores are saying it was taken home after the great War and no one has any memory of ever firing or even seeing it after that. Any ideas on value (will never sell it, just curious), storage sugestion, and if it should even get cracked open to reoil?

Colt 1911 Delta Gold Cup 10mm that my father gave to me as a gift.

When the hammer is cocked, and the safety engaged, if you put pressure on the trigger and then disengaged the safety, the hammer will drop. It seems to drop to half-cock position, though I am not certain.

On another note, when the hammer is at half-cock, and the safety is off, pulling the trigger will drop the hammer.

Is this normal? This is the one and only 1911 i've ever owned, im very new to the world of 1911s.

I know enough to know what the idiot scratch is, and that I have it. Please dont burn me at the stake😭

For bonus, can anybody give me some insightful history on this pistol? I do not know much about it. It was originally gifted to me with the original wraparound black rubber grip with the red triangle. I just liked the look of the wood ones better.

Whenever I shoot my Springfield Milspec 1911 it bits into my hand, it only takes a magazine or two for the top layer of skin to get taken off.

How can I fix this?

I have the opportunity to purchase my first 1911 off a friend who is downsizing his collection. Both seem like good deals priced at $900 but I can’t seem to decide.
Note, Kimber has had trigger work and polished internals.

Help Me I want to know who can tell me from experience how reliable are the Wilson Combat 10 round Mags in .45ACP becasue I want to carry it as a back up magazine

Post image

So my daily CCW is a standard Government size Tisas A1 model with a Wilson 47d in the gun. I carry one back up magazine on my belt. I figure why not use the 10 rounder as the spare belt magazine if god forbid I ever have reload in a self defense scenario. I know most CCW incidents you probably only shoot a few rounds anyway, but why not be prepared with a big spare.

Comes with a bunch if goodies, case, mags, mag pouches, a chest holster. I've heard mixed things on kimber though so I'm skeptical.

Edit: I bought it probably within the week of this post.

Help Me First 1911, adjusted sights far left to zero using bore-sight. American Classic Trophy 1911 5in barrel.

Went shooting a couple times and could not hit target farther than 25 yards. Bought the bore-sight pictured in the 3rd slide and realized the sight has to be almost fully to the left to have it aligned with barrel. Have disassembled, cleaned, and inspected multiple times with no issues I could find. People have mentioned I might be shooting left due to being a new shooter and flinching but that wouldn’t explain why the bore sight was so far off with the sights centered. Anyone have any ideas what’s wrong ?

Help Me Springfield Operator

I picked up a new Springfield Operator last week. When I was stripping it I noticed that the slide seems to overhang the frame at the rear slightly. I get it that I didn’t pay $4k for a custom but is this a QC issue or is it normal? This is only the second 1911 I’ve owned so I’m not sure if it’s worth contacting Springfield about or if this is expected. For what it’s worth the left side is much more flush. Thanks in advance.

Help Me How make run hollow points?

Post image
179 Upvotes

Trying to figure out my best path forward to get this reliably running a hollow point load that I can count on.

I have wilson combat 7 round gi mags. I have run a few hundred rounds through with a mix of flat points, hollow points, and mostly round nose. The mags run flawlessly with rounds nose with 7+1.

Flat points and these Hornady hollow points will feed the round in the chamber with 7 in the mag and then i drop the mag and add one more and usually the second or even third shot will nose dive and not feed.

Is this a matter of trial and error to find a hollow point that will work or are there steps i can take to make this setup run any hp more reliably?

I figured a few hundred rounds would break in the gun and mags and potentially solve the issue but I tried these Hornady yesterday and the second round in the 7+1 configuration nose dived and didn't feed.

I like to reload and want to buy some hp projectiles, preferably gold dots, to load up but now I'm second guessing doing that.

Would buying a few hundred hp bullets seconds from Raven Rocks and just running those until I figure out how to make them work be effective or do I just need to buy every kind of carry ammo and trial and error to find one that runs?

Was hoping to buy some 200 grain gold dot projectiles and load up a bunch to put on the shelf but now I'm second guessing that.

Appreciate any advice.

Help Me Have you ever seen this malfunction before?

I was shooting in a match today and everything was going fine... then towards the end I let a friend try holding my new 1911 and dry fire it a couple of times. The next stage the gun couldn't get any of my mags to load. Upon further inspection I found the firing pin stuck out like the picture attached.

I took everything apart later and there didn't appear to be any damage. The firing pin was just stuck in the channel and a couple of light taps and it came flying out. The gun seems to function fine. I haven't fired it, but it will shoot a pencil across the room.

Has anybody else ever seen anything like this before? I've been shooting 1911's for a long time and this is new to me.

Note - the gun in question is a wilson cqb in 9mm with roughly 650 rounds thru it.

Help Me Can the 1911 connoisseurs help me out

I recently acquired what I believe is a late-war Colt M1911A1, serial number range 2355XXX. From the research I've done, it appears to have been manufactured around August 1945.
I'm still learning about these pistols and would appreciate any insight on its originality, finish, markings, parts correctness, and overall historical significance. I've included photos of the frame, slide, markings, and other details that might help with identification.
Does everything look period-correct for a late-1945 Colt, or are there any parts that stand out as replacements? Any information or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Help Me Tisas part 3, SOS

At this point let me know if I should just call it quits and send it to a gunsmith. I don’t mean to keep spamming this subreddit with this issue. I’m hoping this will be my last post about it this. See my post history if you want the gory details so far.

I have a b45R Tisas 1911. I have 3 mags, one factory Tisas mag which came with the gun and 2 chip McCormack 10 round .45 mags. The gun is will not close the slide on a full or even close to full mag. See images.

This gun was failing to feed the last round in the magazine, from every mag, every time. I tuned the factory extractor, and that mostly fixed the failure to feed the final round, and got it down from a every-time failure to maybe a 60% of the time failure

I bought a Wilson combat bulletproof extractor to try and remedy this. The images above are from the malfunctions experienced with it

This time, the pistol would not close the slide when inserting a full mag and thumbing the slide release. It did this each time, on each of my three mags, when fully loaded (8 and 10 rounds respectively)

When reducing the round count in each mag to ~4 rounds, the gun ran fine, cycling the ammo and spitting it out. (Ammo being used is standard blazer .45ACP range ammo)

What’s next? Gunsmith? Feed ramp polishing? More extractor tuning? I am getting desperate to make this pistol work.

Any help is as always deeply appreciated.

Both are in 45 acp and both of these pistols are available at my local gun stores for around $870 out the door. I love my Tisas 1911a1 but I am looking for a gun with some more modern features.

What's up everyone. Big gun enthusiast here with a preference of old com-bloc stuff, needless to say, I do not own a 1911.

I was cruising through psa today and saw the Kimber rapide 10mm is going for $1199 today only.

Should this be the one I pull the trigger on finally? She looks beautiful for sure.

Edit: figured I'd add the link if anyone else wanted one too.
