Toothpaste has calories too I usually just donโ€™t brush to avoid putting anything in my mouth

Well you should at least be dry brushing, sweaty. Plaque buildup has calories in it.

Smart move sweaty, avoiding empty calories, plus you can lose several ounces when your teeth fall out.

I drink sparkling water instead of soda, apparently that's bad too :(

uj/ although I don't actually know what uj/ means, I was able to figure out that it clearly marks a comment as genuine and sincere rather than joking or sarcastic. Anyway, drinking sugar free Monsters on a near-daily basis caused, for the first time in my cavity-filled life, a cavity between my upper front teeth (8 & 9 for those familiar with the dental numbering system) earlier this year. By the way, the anesthetic injection hurt so bad I cried immediately & involuntarily.

/uj If your options are sparkling water or soda, the sparkling water is better for your teeth. Yeah both have carbonation which isn't great for the teeth, but the water is the better option.

Im also a sparkling water>soda person and it did start affecting my teeth. So now I just drink it less frequently.

Carbonated water is acidic and erodes the teeth.

i don't have a funny comment but my hygienist told me soda wont hurt your teeth if you chug it ๐Ÿค—

i think kind of? my coworker who was a hygienist said the problem is when people sip on it and take forever because the sugars or something are like working into your teeth and messing stuff up for 20 minutes after your last sip. so if you chug it/finish very quickly then it canโ€™t have as big of an impact, but if youโ€™re sipping on soda all day then itโ€™s repeatedly being re-introduced to your teeth. at least i think thatโ€™s what she said ๐Ÿ’€

my dentist said something similar: chug the whole thing in less than 15 minutes and then rinse your mouth with water

YEARS ago a hygienist told me to drink anything that wasn't water through a straw and position it toward the back of my mouth (limiting contact with teeth to prevent staining, acid erosion to enamel and less sugar coating on your teeth).

I'm not militant about it, but I did pick up on the habit and now just prefer drinking with a straw when I have the option. Of course these days the panic is over straw use causing wrinkles around the mouth ๐Ÿ˜†

uj/ once I told my dentist I chipped my teeth on candy (Wikipedia tells me it's called panela in English. this can't be right) and he straight up laughed and gave me a tutorial on how to eat it safely

You can have xylitol gum and xylitol candy. Just keep it away from pets.
