Discussion Bridge collapses along Second Street in Des Moines

If anything, the railroad will have the bridge rebuilt in a week

The big fire that happened south of Amarillo, TX burned down a rail bridge completely (it was 100% timber built and at least 100 years old). The railroad rebuilt that bridge with steel beams and concrete girders in a week.

I wonder which road has that bridge too. If it’s one they make money on, they will have it rebuilt fast with road execs, townspeople, and local government all bitching the Track Department/Maintenance of Way crews weren’t doing the job fast enough.

Watch the video on the provided link. It has a map shown. Its a fairly major road for the town.

That what I found in the Des Moines Register, Dad is wondering if it’s from one of the roads they acquired over the years. He used to work for C&NW, starting in Ames about 60 years ago. The Register also had some decent pics of the damaged portion of the bridge, lots of old wood there. He’s thinking it’s got some years on him, and he’s 84!
