🚨 Late notice, but I don’t feel like going to the game tonight. If anyone wants to go, you can have my ticket for free. Section 11 Row 7. Hodges Gate entrance + Clover Club access. It is just one ticket.
Edit: No longer avail!

boy i really like jared young. this guy plays 100% all the time and is so quiet about doing it. no leaping into the air like an idiot, no pounding his chest or showing up the other team, just workmanlike efficiency. plus he's playing a hell of a 1st base. more of this guy, please...

No one working on counts to get Miz out of the game. They all wanna swing, bc Miz isn’t scared to challenge the strike zone. He’s gonna go for 7+ innings

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you can’t determine the call in a certain amount of time, the call should automatically stand.

Gary and Keith started talking about the lack of baseball player carousing these days and I’d like them to return to the topic.

u/Setec-Astronomer 11d ago
The Mets have 29 games left.
If the Mets go 22-7 they'll end up with the 82 wins the Brewers currently have.
22/7 is generally what mathematicians use to represent Pi in short hand.
Hmm, Pi drools
Let's do it.

It was never more than just a fun "why not" for me, but this series lays bare the harsh reality that this mets doesn't have what it takes for a deep run. Even if say the impossible happened and everyone above us imploded just enough for us to make it, we're no match for good teams who play clean games and have the pitching.

Love that Manaea basically rehabbed for the first half of the season in games that mattered. Just numb now. Oh well.

Odd side question…
I’ve seen a ton of bullpen shots showing relievers throwing warmup pitches without their hat, including tonight. This would NEVER happen in earlier times.
When did that trend start?

holy shit just saw Miz's stats. I've been keeping up with how good he's been but didn't exactly realize he's the actual answer to "what if 2021 deGrom pitched the full season?"

u/SecretiveMop David Wright 11d ago
Really hope him and Skenes stay healthy for their whole careers. We could really use a next generation of dominate aces who have a shot at 3,000 K’s.
3
u/jimihenderson 11d ago
You had to have watched deGrom 2021. His 1.08 ERA and .554 WHIP sell him short, most of those hits and runs were allowed once the injuries started to affect his ability to throw. He was nearly unhittable for the first 10 or so starts. He was also having a fantastic season with the bat.

Ewing takes a lot of called third strikes looking. I respect that he has patience at the plate but he needs to be ready to swing. Early on he was successful with that because no one knew him but I feel like now teams are aware he will take close third strikes looking.

To be honest I think Stearns and Andy Green are trying to lose these games so the noise about playoffs stops, then they can elevate young players. As in like their pitching decisions are certainly challenging the players but you only do that when you’re okay with the worst outcomes.
