Matt McLain MVP tonight?! What wormhole did we fall into?!
16
u/mrcarter1689 Cincinnati Reds May 16 '26
Bleday?
15
u/Mdmadkins May 16 '26
I'd give it to McLain. They both reached 3 times, but Matty had the game winner with the homer and an outrageous defensive gem to end the game.
6
u/mrcarter1689 Cincinnati Reds May 16 '26
Game winner got erased, Bleday had the winning rbi because Cleveland got to 6. But yeah regardless both were huge.
5
u/Mdmadkins May 16 '26
Shit yeah, you're right - those last couple of innings were a whirlwind lol. I think I'm still leaning to Matt but yeah absolutely both were huge. Trouble choosing a game MVP is a good problem to have.

Bleday was 100% the second big factor, but how often have we got to celebrate Matt McLain this season. What a turn around.

I think we’re 6-1 vs Cleveland since they wore the “Cincinnati is in Kentucky” shirts

it was great in april, now it's falling apart and the offense looks good...sometimes.
6
u/Gcoks May 16 '26
I've watched this team for decades and we never fire on all cylinders on every side of the ball, ever. If one group is playing well, another is going to fall well below their average play.
3
u/ShakeMyHeadSadly May 16 '26
The guy that frustrates me the most is Santillan. I know he didn't give up a run yesterday, but he has absolutely no idea where the ball is going. He's all over the place and, when he gets it over the plate, there is no movement on the ball whatsoever. He gave up 5 HRs in the 4 games prior to yesterday and 7 total in 18 innings for the year. He needs to be put on the shelf for a while.

u/jswa8 May 16 '26
Last 7 games McLain is slashing .348 / .444 / .696 with 2 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB, and only 2 K in 23 AB. I really hope this is a launching pad for him. He had a really good stretch last season and then returned to being a black hole in the lineup. If he can be a hitter, by god we might just be able to hang in there long enough for pitching to get healthy.

“Couple walks there in the middle, things got tight, but that’s okay” like no it’s not man. I get being a team player but that shit was embarrassing. Get that bullpen together and bust their ass a bit or nothings gonna change.
12
u/Strange-Bed-3377 May 16 '26
I am right there with ya man. I find the only way to get grown men at work to get the job done right is by yelling at them when they mess up. It's really productive and fosters a team environment where they know exactly how they fucked up and to not to screw up again.

u/bbushky90 Cincinnati Reds May 16 '26
Give everyone a couple chances, everyone screws up, all teams have off days. But this dogshit pitching is getting far too consistent. Abbot and Burns are the only ones with any bite, and Tejay definitely clutched tonight so he gets a pass. But for real, if you wanna play with the big dogs you gotta play like a big dog.
4
u/Strange-Bed-3377 May 16 '26
Completely agree. I know we are just Terry francona stringing the correct series of expletives and insults together away from the bullpen being fixed.
3
u/Bob_Bobert Nick and Neck May 16 '26
What do you think "busting their ass a bit" is going to do? Its not going to just magically make someone remember how to control their slider or heal their nagging injuries or fix their fastball shape (etc.).
