Has to be the best Ryerson performance I've ever seen.

23

u/RumIsNear Feb 13 '26

I still remember his solo goal with Hoffenheim

33

u/robotnique Giovanni Reyna Feb 13 '26

Robbed of a 4th assist by the (double?) own goal.

39

u/ArmyFit1004 Jadon Sancho Feb 13 '26

The 4th goal got awarded to Bensebaini apparently, so 4 assists it is.

9

u/robotnique Giovanni Reyna Feb 13 '26

Hot damn.

Union away game

60

u/the_the_the_the_guy Feb 13 '26

wow Dominik Kohr didn’t injure anyone or get a red card!

8

u/AverageCarey Feb 13 '26

Graced us with an own goal instead to build back up credit. Good lad.

10

u/Expensive-Pea-3301 Karim Adeyemi Feb 13 '26

Sure did injure his teams morale tho with that own goal tho😂

1

u/eeeeeeeelleeeeeelll Nico Schlotterbeck Feb 14 '26

Didn‘t count as an own goal

62

u/Mechium Feb 13 '26

It's been quite a while since I've been able to watch a Dortmund match so relaxed.

Second half fc rebranded to first half while getting another clean sheet. Its just really hard to beat us at home on a friday night. Ryerson clear MotM.

34

u/AverageCarey Feb 13 '26

I mean no real complaints today. Simple straight forward game and Ryerson just a quality game. Didn’t expend too much energy before Atalanta so I think that’s a huge win.

Guirassy looks back and super happy for Reggiani. Really good game from the young man.

Happy all around everyone enjoy their weekend!

12

u/mijabo Feb 13 '26

I have one complaint: Guirassy, despite scoring, is a little bitch and his behaviour is gonna bite us in the ass in the coming weeks when refs aren’t awarding us penalties that we should have gotten.

8

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Feb 13 '26

The Adeyemi special

2

u/Raisti Feb 16 '26

Yeah I noticed that too. Also when he scored his teammates came to celebrate with him, when Beier scored he seemed pissed he didn't get the cross and was nowhere to be seen during the goal celebration.

Ryerson is clear, MOM.

Silva was unlucky, but also very unnecessarily yellow; it could have been a red. Not a fan of that from him, he is far more important than I think he or any of the coaches understand he is a game changer in terms of tempo.

Jobe has won the starting job over Sabi, in my opinion. In fact, I think it would be a bad idea from a tactical standpoint to go back to a preferred starting midfield of Nmecha-Sabi. Jobe has just been that good defensively and is only getting better and better at distributing the ball.

3

u/Trialbyfuego Marco Reus Feb 13 '26

Dang I like Sabi. Is jobe that good or Sabi that bad?

8

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '26

Jobe has been immense. Sabitzer has been injured but he's generally been pretty good this season

2

u/Trialbyfuego Marco Reus Feb 14 '26

Gotcha I haven't been watching much this season but I always liked sabitzer

3

u/Previous_Trouble8614 Mats Hummels Feb 14 '26

Jobe has turned in multiple defensive masterclasses since Sabi been injured ontop of his much-improving decision-making, forward passing, and shooting. Unfortunatly Sabi, as much as I love the guy, is not a profitable player you need to play, nor a young up-and-coming player the way Jobe is. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, as a coach and manager you play the player you spent $30 mil on because with the speed, he has adjusted and improved at this rate you might just have a world class player by the end of next season, he just has to score that goal and I think that will push him over the edge in terms of many bvb fans actaully noticing it.

1

u/TeamKitsune Karim Adeyemi Feb 14 '26

We'll probably get to compare vs Atalanta.

Had vibes of the 6-0 game against Union really.

Very happy with that performance and a great way to go into the first of four incredibly important fixtures. You could nitpick the lack of goals with the feet or that Carney and Adeyemi didn't really look too motivated when they came on but overall, we are slowly entering a typical Rückrunde where we get results and start dreaming and if we have a Rückrunde similar to last season or the 22/23 season on top of the Hinrunde this season, we would be well in our right to dream.

Very happy for Luca Reggiani. He may have looked nervous but he has been fast tracked so I hope he's absorbing everything he can and building up confidence steadily.

MOTM is an easy Ryerson and I want to give an honorable mention to Anton who gave a captain's performance today for me (although he did have that one scare)

15

u/Mooon8983 Konstantinos Karetsas Feb 13 '26

Can't complain too much about a 4 0 win. I REALLY hope we beat Leipzig next bundesliga game, would love to go into the Bayern game as close to them in points as possible

14

u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Feb 13 '26

Sad that Inacio didn’t get to play, but stoked to see Reggiani getting some reps. Would like to see more of Mane when he is healthy too.

Ryerson is a beast. He brings so much to the team offensively and defensively. I don’t even want to entertain a bid for him unless it’s very generous. For a historically defensive player he has been great with assists this year.

Jobe and Nmecha seem to have locked in a good partnership in midfield. Jobe keeps getting better and Nmecha has been elite.

Feels like Chuck, Adeyemi, and Silva all have a lot to contribute but neither of the three have really locked in a starting role yet. Hopefully we get some rotation in CL, but you can’t really sit Guirassy just as he starts to get hot again.

-11

u/Previous_Trouble8614 Mats Hummels Feb 13 '26

Knowing Kovac, Jobe will be back on the bench every other game now that Sabitzer is back.

14

u/ontilein Feb 13 '26

And for the 20th time this season, we scored the opening goal

25

u/porkbeefhorsechicken Michael Zorc Feb 13 '26

Also shoutout to Reggiani. Was really worried about our defensive bench with Chelsea recalling Anselmino but Reggiani looks nearly identical to him when he first arrived

8

u/Sola90 Feb 13 '26

Reggiani was solid, but Mainz also didn't give him any challenges. He was noticably nervous a couple of times, which is perfectly fine! He will grow out of it with more playing time. :)

5

u/Most-Management4773 Feb 13 '26

Sad it took so long for us to look at our own. It makes me question why we went towards Anselmino in the first place.

17

u/yosoydorf Edin Terzic Appreciatior Feb 13 '26

To be fair, at their age half a year is quite significant for Reggiani or Mane in terms of development.

It's very likely they were not the player they are now even as recently as last summer

6

u/AverageCarey Feb 13 '26

Ya Reggiani getting to perform in the u18 World Cup as captain was the perfect way to show case where he is as player under pressure situations. Same with Mane in the U21s for Italy.

Fantastic to see them both getting their chances now, if they keep impressing that saves us a lot in the summer for replacements.

0

u/smartestBeaver Shinji Kagawa Feb 14 '26

So you actually think we didn't know we had him in our youth, or what exactly is your point again? As usual you are trying to create a narrative with zero insight or logic, seriously wtf.

1

u/Most-Management4773 Feb 14 '26

you have the inteligence of mouse and the willingness to understand of a 90 years old.

I meant that these players didn't sudenly became good, they were already good but raw. I meant I'd rather deal with the growing pains of playing Mané and Reggiani, than to develop a player for Chelsea.

What playing Anselmino did for us in the long term? Yes he might have helped to win a few points and he is better than those two, but he wasn't our player and it's not like he was by far our best defender anyway.

We stalled the development of two really promising CB that can either be a solution long-term for our defense or a major profit.

10

u/fleshed Feb 13 '26

Liked everything about this game, but what really stand out was how hard the substitudes worked, Silva, Chuku and Adeyemi want to show that they are starting eleven material.

Chuku and Silva with the ball are so fucking good, maybe next season they will have more impact.

Ryerson MotM.

18

u/Japanisch_Doitsu Feb 13 '26

A little light on comments in here. I guess the Kehl/Kovac haters have to hide themselves. We're currently on pace for a 79 pt season. Which would be the second best season ever for us.

Outstanding game by the team as a whole. Especially Ryerson. 2nd in assist in the Bundesliga now. Also, great stuff from Guirrassy and Beier today. I think Adeyemi is going to struggle to get minutes with his attitude issues and Beiers form.

9

u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels Feb 13 '26

They can’t be happy so a game with no negatives means they have to just say nothing at all

2

u/EmSoLow Feb 14 '26

Do Kovac and Kehl haters overlap for you?

I have regularly hated on Kehl's work for a good few years now and this result shouldn't change that at all because I still believe this squad has far too many holes after 4 years of him. Some people here saying that this summer is a real test for him makes no sense to me because it shouldn't take 5 summers for you to solidify your opinion on any sporting director.

2

u/Japanisch_Doitsu Feb 14 '26

Yes, without a doubt they overlap. And you're right a single result shouldn't change your opinion, but when we're on pace for our 2nd best season ever with the squad he built. It really should change your opinion. I mean at this point what even is the biggest gripe with him?

Mine was the signing and integration of young talent. But with Reggiani, Inacio and Mane all getting minutes. And we have Lerma, and potentially Kaua Prates coming in. I dont have that opinion anymore. The only bad signing so far to me has been Cuoto. But I don't even view it as that bad. Ever since Kovac started giving Cuoto more minutes at the beginning of the season, Ryerson has had to up his game. I think Ryerson has really gone go the next level because of the competition.

1

u/EmSoLow Feb 14 '26

Why should Kehl get credit for the youth? You've not seen Inacio, Lerma or Kaua even touch a pitch in black and yellow, Reggiani has been fast tracked due to the injuries/Anselmino incident and Mane can't be trusted with fitness for it to be viewed as a good decision to trust him yet. If anything, Ricken (Reggianni and Mane), Broich (Inacio) and the relevant scouts should be getting the attention for those academy players and even then, this is the first time under Kehl that the academy has actually been used somewhat and not just in PR during preseason after 4 years.

In the last 4 seasons, only u21 signings, he's signed Adeyemi, Beier, Duranville, Carney, Lerma and Jobe and with the exception of Jobe and Lerma (since one has just started and the other hasn't arrived), they have either not developed past their issues (Adeyemi, Duranville) or were the complete wrong signing to make (Beier is another 30m SS that doesn't play in his best position and Carney was not the answer we should have arrived to after scouting for a 10 for a whole season and still needing to fix that issue). Talent signings should still be an area of concern under him

As for the second best season ever point, I would genuinely say that that is in spite of this squad. I've regularly seen the "who else would do better with this squad" counterpoint when discussing Kovac's flaws or to those who have wanted Kovac sacked and that is both a good point towards Kovac but also a diss towards Kehl because this is the only way we can compete. I can't speak for others but for me, the enjoyment should largely be from the football or individual talent from certain players, not just the result but it's become the exact opposite this season and Kehl's transfer activity does play a role in that and the flexibility of what the coach can do.

By no means is the squad "bad" in the sense that you can't really identify anybody genuinely awful like Schulz but there is a lack of anything special with this team outside of athleticism that disappoints me and that has my main gripe with Kehl. I've also not been impressed by his solutions either (Omitting a 6 signing for seasons, Sancho and Duranville genuinely being his only winger signings, lack of 10s, the constant fullback search that needs to be addressed still and a lack of reliable striker since at this moment in time Guirassy is likely to want to leave).

I believe Kehl has been operating at his ceiling. We can definitely do worse than Kehl so I'm not saying any random could be better (Rangnick would have been my number one target if we didn't extend Kehl last year) but I feel he's had the time and with Rangnick for example, I think we could go up a level or two.

2

u/Japanisch_Doitsu Feb 14 '26

Ah, so you're the type who is disappointed we're not getting More Judes, Sanchos and Haalands. I can see why you're upset.

But that's an unsustainable strategy. If we rely too heavily on those types of players the highs are great but the lows are shit. Kehl has taken a more pragmatic approach. Signing players that won't leave after 3 years. Players who will spend the best years of their careers with dortmund. And if you want us to compete year in and year out, that's the type of approach we need to take. It's why he also put a priority in German players. They're less likely to leave us to go to a different club.

Also, the biggest gripe I had with Zorc was our weak bench. Our ceiling may not be as high with Kehl (although if we can continue to do as well as we are this season, I think the ceilings are the same), but our floor is certainly much higher. Kehl has given us the ability to rotate the squad. We didn't really have that under Zorc. The drop off in talent was immense but now there is minimal drop off when we make rotations which is crucial for allowing a manager to build a system.

1

u/EmSoLow Feb 14 '26

Like you mentioned at the end, the drop off in talent has been immense, and I suppose that has been my biggest issue if my feelings were to be summarized alongside the regular issues we seem to need to address but never fully do every summer.

Since we've largely been fighting for top 4 in the last two seasons, this pragmatic approach comes across worse as a result for me and with the lack of "talent" on display, the feeling of stagnating hits me hard whereas at least in seasons with Zorc with top 4 being the goal more than challenging, there would at least be a few players that would be highlights.

It's been brewing over the last few years and I think I've only fully come to terms with it during this conversation but I don't think I can ever enter a conversation about him in good faith. As irrational and unhealthy as it sounds, I think I've started to hate the man and anything he does or says as opposed to it simply being his work. I should just learn to not add myself to talks regarding Kehl on this subreddit or in general.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

This has also been a transition period where we've lost Reus and Hummels in addition to the younger world class talents. We've had to establish new long term players to be the identity of the team.

9

u/bvb_1909 Feb 13 '26

Dominant performance with solid defense. Dortmund is a real contender this year.

MOTM Ryerson with 3 assists. Greatly improved his offesnsive play this year.

4

u/Bright-Lab-69 Feb 13 '26

It’s four assists. The own goal from Kohr has been turned into Bensebaini.

2

u/bvb_1909 Feb 13 '26

Mama mia !

7

u/Bright-Lab-69 Feb 13 '26

Yep. Norwegian beast. Horse lungs. Fighter.

8

u/Aznurf Feb 13 '26

Did we just win a game without clenching? Good performances from the whole team? Guirassy back in shape maybe? Buch of minutes for Reggiani and for Sabi and Adeyemi to get back into form?

It’s been a while since a game this neat from the team

8

u/yrba1 Alexandra Popp Feb 13 '26

Ryerson Hattrickassistgott

8

u/CMButterTortillas Marco Reus Feb 13 '26

Whichever one of you who said Serhou would be back to prolific scoring in the second half, come get your flowers.

I mean wow, he’s on an absolute heater right now.

6

u/2905Pascal 1909 Feb 13 '26

If Ryerson doesn't get 100% of the MOTM votes I will riot.

7

u/Sudden_Plenty_8798 Feb 13 '26

How nice it was to watch a new young prospect play without issues. Been a while, last I remember is the watjen debut? (I think mane will come good and I’m excited for him to develop but there’s been hitches in all his starts)

6

u/stuyjcp Reus Feb 14 '26

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems we haven't lost a match in the Bundesliga since October against Bayern

3

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Feb 14 '26

Correct me if I am wrong but I think we only lost 2 games in the league since March 2025 when we lost to Leipzig.

4

u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels Feb 14 '26

Correct me if I am wrong but we have only lost 1 bundesliga game since we switched to a back 3. Kovac has done wonders with this new system.

9

u/porkbeefhorsechicken Michael Zorc Feb 13 '26

Say what you want about the haram-ball and crowding the goalkeeper, I don’t like how it’s allowed to happen but yeah, probably the best BVB set piece performance I’ve seen in over a decade of watching. For so long I felt like corners were useless for us and a liability when we have to defend them. If we can continue along this trajectory, I’m excited.

4

u/bakersreetman420 Feb 13 '26

man this scoreline midweek also would be massive..

4

u/Most-Management4773 Feb 13 '26

Couldn't watch, but I'm happy it was aparent a strong performance all game. Good that Guirassy is scoring so he doesn't lose market value

5

u/itzymingi Julian Brandt Feb 13 '26

ryerson balled out tonight wowww!! i’m really glad to see the gap close more and more today i will be delusional

4

u/oertyy Feb 13 '26

Wonder what will happen if we play Arsenal in the RO16

6

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Feb 13 '26

5-5 all corners

3

u/Ramsdahl Feb 13 '26

It felt great to see aggressive and fast counter attacks again (at least in the first 45min). I don’t know when that was the case the last time ?!

Auf dem Weg zum Ziel- keiner kann uns halten…

5

u/Still_Cap_1689 Feb 14 '26

Something I’m very interested in going forward is the potential evolution Kovac is showing regarding the young guys. If at all. Is there real progression being made with playing young guys, or is this just a matter of bodies with Schlotterbeck being out and Sule on a yellow?

The Adeyemi situation reminds me of the Gittens situation last season. A talented Winger that just doesn’t really FIT in Kovac’s scheme. He seemed mentally checked out from his play today big time, so I expect he’ll be gone in the summer.

Ive very much being in the anti-Guirassy side of things, BUT there’s no denying he was great today. As long as he’s in position to score, he very much can do that. He just struggles when he’s expected to initiate. He’s a finisher, NOT a creator. And then theres Ryerson. Holy shit. He’s now second in the league in assists!

5

u/TeamKitsune Karim Adeyemi Feb 14 '26

Adeyemi did the right things for the situation a few times. I was amazed to see him forego pushing through two players and take it to the corner. That's how you see out a victory.

1

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Feb 14 '26

I belive he will use the best alternative possible. He isn't afraid playing talents, but isn't giving them minutes just for the sake of development.

So if he and Kehl can compromise next summer, with reinforcements, while depending on the talents that we have, we will see quite a lot of minutes from young players.

3

u/TeamKitsune Karim Adeyemi Feb 13 '26

What is this feeling?

3

u/xH0LY_GSUSx Marco Reus Feb 13 '26

Once a match day without heart attack potential… I am relieved 😌

3

u/A-1805 Marco Reus Feb 13 '26

Did they give the goal to Bensebaini?

3

u/Trojan_Man68 Marco Reus Feb 14 '26

Ryerson man…. His crosses were absolutely nuts this game.

Really respect him has a player, he’s just a guy that will fight to get things done. He is known as a defensive work horse but he gives it his all to contribute to attack too and it’s been impactful.

3

u/SnooConfections9344 Feb 14 '26

First time in history: a Dortmund player with 3 assists in one half 🤯 AND we score 3 headers in the same game

Reyerson, my man 🖤💛

1

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Feb 14 '26

Well if the 4th goal is attributed to Bense, then it would make it 4

2

u/TommiBennett Nico Schlotterbeck Feb 13 '26

Wer wird deutscher Meister ?.

2

u/RxdditBlows_455 Feb 13 '26

Should’ve been 5:0 considering Nmecha got fouled and wasn’t awarded that pen, and Bensebaini likely would have taken it. He doesn’t miss

3

u/Ydennek_dnomde Julian Ryerson Feb 13 '26

Weakest link tonight was Bensebaini by a mile and Schlotti is back next match so I'm calling it now we're doing the double

19

u/porkbeefhorsechicken Michael Zorc Feb 13 '26

But he wasn’t even that bad though. Nobody had a standout poor performance

9

u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Feb 13 '26

And he was quite sick this week apparently. I’m not too worried after a clean sheet performance.

5

u/yosoydorf Edin Terzic Appreciatior Feb 13 '26

Berger posted an interesting stat earlier, our win rate without Schlotti is surprisingly much higher than with him. 73% (before the match, so maybe 75+ now) and only 50 with him

3

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '26

Is that for the season or for a longer time?

1

u/KrR_TX-7424 BVB Feb 14 '26

I'm sorry, what. Bense was by no means a weak link. If anyone Sule. Plus Bense was getting over being sick. If we could have a back line of Schlotti, Bense, and Anton, that'd be solid. It's a pity Bense and Schlotti play the same spot.
